KEEP DANCING

OP posts:
NeedWineNow · 30/11/2024 22:56

We've been out this evening and just caught up.

As usual a bit meh about Sarah and Tash. Technically good but just no emotion.

Loved Chris and Dianne and also JB and Lauren. Actually we watched JB and Lauren's routine twice as it was so lovely.

Pete and Montell for the dance off I think.

Ellmau · 30/11/2024 23:06

is Vito abit off strictly? He just doesn't seem his usual self in this partnership. Has anyone else noticed this?

Maybe feels a bit isolated with the other two Italian dancers effectively sacked in disgrace?

I loathe them too. I think it's the awfulness of someone speaking and then suddenly going off into song, then back to speaking. Either have a proper spoken play, or write an opera and sing the lot.
They always seem so hammy, it's rare to find an actor who is a great singer or vice versa so they're usually bad at one or the other. So many of them are a piss poor storyline stuck around a band's already existing songs, why not go and see a tribute act instead if the real band no longer exists- thinking of the evening I spent cringing at the dreadfulness of We Will Rock You and the audience bellowing out the songs.
Others are just full of banal forgettable songs. I think they're a very lowbrow form of entertainment, they appeal to the masses that's why they're churned out regularly and you end up with horrors like a "fun" musical with singing and dancing about a terrible tragedy like the sinking of the Titanic.

Just because you irrationally dislike musical theatre doesn't give you the right to diss those of us who do.

How snobby and patronising. Maybe the issue is with you, who are unable to connect with the style of musicals?

They're like every other genre of entertainment. Some are better than others.

It's like saying reading is awful ffs when there's such a wide range to choose from!

Hardly "appealing to the masses" when it's actually quite expensive to go!!

I saw 'We Will Rock you' and both Brian May and Roger Taylor were playing.

I think I am more impressed by their knowledge and expertise in the music world than I am by your lack of it! 😂

Do tell us what highbrow entertainment you indulge in when you’re not watching Strictly 🤨

What a snobbish load of tripe.

No one would ever claim that musicals are a highbrow form of entertainment would they? Same as pantomime.
Strictly itself is low brow too, I obviously watch it, it fills a couple of hours on a winter's evening, I rarely watch it live although I did tonight, I can't bear all the talk, the cringy vts, the filler stuff etc, I mostly fast forward through it. I like watching people dancing and improving that's why I watch it. I often don't know who many of the contestants are and never vote. If it was on in the summer I probably wouldn't watch it.
Among many other things I like going to the ballet, opera, plays but definitely not musicals.
I'm sure that in last week's results show Chris McCausland said he disliked musicals and couldn't see the point in them.

You were lucky! When I saw it the lead singer was some X factor has been and unknown musicians. But apart from that the plot and story were just dreadful.

I wouldn't begin to compare musicals to pantomime but they each have their place. I guess I just don't judge entertainment in that way personally. I'd probably think of reality TV as the most lowbrow but I couldn't bring myself to care.

I'm not surprised Chris can't see the point in musicals because quite literally, he can't see them!!

There is some amazing music written and performed in musicals that the world would be the poorer for missing out on on!! Andrew Lloyd Weber strikes me as a fairly high-brow kind of guy?!!

I'm surprised you lower yourself to watching Strictly in the first place!!😂You do know you're not being forced to watch it?

It's an interesting concept, judging what people enjoy. I guess anyone who's ever gone to see Mrs Brown's Boys (I haven't but I wouldn't entirely rule it out!) is lower than whale shit on your lofty scale of what makes entertainment!!!

I can't imagine you going to see Chris doing stand-up and you must despise Pete for his reality TV background!

Anyway, I think Montell is toast this week. She just doesn't seem to have the fanbase that others do.

I know Chris wants to be judged on the same level as all of the others, but bloody hell, what he and Dianne are achieving every week is off the scale! Dianne is a teaching genius!

Sarah is beginning to irritate me. I thought Tasha's Argentine Tango was deeply underwhelming, with very little of the flicks and kicks and virtually none of the passion.

I love Amy as a pro, but I think Lauren suits JB so much better! He just seems to have upped it several gears since the two of them were partnered!

Pete.just.needs.to.go. I think the guy himself is embarrassed now at being kept in!! He and Jowita - item or not?

Lookingatthesunset · 30/11/2024 23:34

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 30/11/2024 23:21

You were lucky! When I saw it the lead singer was some X factor has been and unknown musicians. But apart from that the plot and story were just dreadful.

I thought it was ok though it wasn't one of my favourites. My DDs were in their school production of Evita years ago and I literally loved it so much I went every night! They had an amazingly talented producer who just brought the best out in all the participants - I tolerated many school productions/concerts/carol services with the best grace I could over the years lol! - but Evita for an amateur production was incredible.

I'd have gone to WWRY just to see two legends in action. My DD won the tickets on a radio show! 😂She recalls even now that I was so enthralled (!!!) that I leaned across to her at one point and said, "do you know if we have any grapes in the fridge?"!!

I've also since seen Queen live with Adam Lambert and omg, they were amazing! Is a concert acceptable to you?

NetZeroZealot · 01/12/2024 07:17

There are some outstanding musicals, but only one was featured on Strictly last night and that was West Side Story.
Other great musicals are Cabaret and Hamilton.
You couldn’t pay me to see Six or Wicked.

januaryjan · 01/12/2024 07:41

snowsnowandsnow · 30/11/2024 20:20

Three votes to Pete.

I can't help myself

Pete is the essence of what Strictly is about. The complete novice dancer, getting better each week and discovering the joy of dance.

I think his journey, (sorry), with 'Yo-vieet-ah'👀 over the last couple of weeks has been 'joyous' to watch and he deserves to be there.

Along with my lovely JB of course.

NorthernGirl1981 · 01/12/2024 07:43

Every year I hope someone is going to dance to a song from the musical Camelot. I absolutely adore that film.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 01/12/2024 07:52

Lookingatthesunset · 30/11/2024 21:07

How can you blanket not like musicals?!!

I don't like musicals either. Saw Wicked in the West End years ago, can't remember much apart from the flying monkeys.

The only musicals I actually like are The Greatest Showman and The Sound of Music whose songs are second to the script and story.

Why don’t you fill a couple of hours on a winter’s evening by reading an improving work of literature rather than sullying yourself with something you so clearly despise?

The fact that you are able to write off a whole genre in the way you do without any exceptions does not make you highbrow - quite the opposite. It suggests someone who desperately wants to be thought highbrow but isn’t.

Most people watch what they want to watch and choose what brings them joy.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 01/12/2024 08:18

You couldn’t pay me to see Six or Wicked.

I bet someone could. I don’t watch Love Island but if the producers offered me a million pounds to watch it, I definitely would 🤷🏻‍♀️

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2024 08:26

I'd sell my soul for less than that tbh. A paid day off work, a year's supply of ginger nuts.

Piggywaspushed · 01/12/2024 08:30

I only like the old fashioned musicals not miced up modern ones but that's not to do with brows. I like The Masked Singer so can't judge anyway.

I saw Connie thingy on stage in TSOM. She can both act and sing (and dance enough for the role). It was terrific. I would like more Carousel type musical numbers on Strictly.

I saw Cabaret for the first time ever a couple of years ago and was surprised how much I liked it. And even DH enjoyed it.

HellsBalls · 01/12/2024 08:38

NetZeroZealot · 30/11/2024 21:20

Pete hasn’t got imposter syndrome.
That would suggest he had underlying talent he wasn’t aware of.
He IS an imposter compared with the others and needs to leave.

Yep. That footwork was terrible. But he’s more popular than Montel for some reason. Would be a travesty if he goes through.

ilovebrie8 · 01/12/2024 08:38

JB to win I hope, it just shows you what a different pro can do he was lack lustre with Amy now he’s fabulous! His dance last night was spot on.

Montell will be a goner I reckon as she’s not popular, she’s been in the DO a lot.

Chris’s dance was fab last night.

Musicals week not one of my faves! Fair play to Shirley in that garb !

Lentilweaver · 01/12/2024 08:43

I lovs musicals. I also love highbrow plays, ballet and a good book. It's not either/or.
What I don't like is themed weeks on Strictly.

bluebeck · 01/12/2024 08:45

virgocatlover · 30/11/2024 20:14

It could be Montell v Tasha (if Chris and Pete are 1st and 2nd in public vote)

Yes, that’s my prediction. Obviously the judges will save the professional dancer Tasha.

BeatrizBoniface · 01/12/2024 08:46

bluebeck · 01/12/2024 08:45

Which really annoys me!

billysboy · 01/12/2024 08:52

good for Chris and Doyanne and well done her for explaining how his natural posture and position is to keep his head down and stoop

Tasha is a bit of a dry lunch and Pete is doing great along with JB now he is with Lauren
Its an entertainment show lets not forget

ThePoshUns · 01/12/2024 08:53

I think Pete and Montell will be in the dance off.
I agree with op's Lauren has really ramped up JB's dancing. He's my favourite.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/12/2024 08:58

I also am not generally a fan of musicals, though there are a few I enjoy. Conversely, I love Disney films with songs in. Grin

And I'm another who's loving the JB & Lauren partnership. I hope she gets a sleb full time next year, she's marvellous.

ilovebrie8 · 01/12/2024 09:04

Yep hope Lauren gets a celeb next year she’s brilliant …
