Actually a quickstep to Lovecats would potentially be good...

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/11/2024 22:50

Just samba rolled in and came to placemark. Thank you to @CaveMum for doing the thread, won't get to see it till quite late tomorrow afternoon so relying on all your summations.

I didn't understand what Jamie meant about the "paso reference for Anton" in their jive?

I assumed it was that a previous partner of Anton (Ann Widdicombe?) had been launched into a paso on a cannon (or something similar-shaped to the sauce bottle). I’m too lazy to look it up but it rings a tiny bell…

Mind you, Ann was so bad that they needed a lot of cheap tricks and time-wasting: not really the case with Jamie, who can actually dance (but is constantly stitched-up by staging and wardrobe).

musicalfrog · 16/11/2024 23:56

Voted for Chris, Tasha and Jamie. I don't think I have favourites, it's the first time I've voted for the last two. I'm very much a floating strictly voter.

The ketchup bottles really reminded me of the Masked Singer.

Just because they had a couple of drag queens reading the T&C in Blackpool week doesn't mean it's being taken over.

Personally I found Pete's performance far more repellent than a few seconds ' appearance by the drag queens.

They are gross caricatures of women - we are entitled to hate them. If ‘blacking up’ is (quite rightly) deemed offensive nowadays then this should be too.

ilovesooty · 17/11/2024 02:06

A brief appearance of a couple of drag queens reading the T&C in Blackpool week still doesn't equate to them taking the show over, whatever your opinion of them.

Ballroom dancing to the Cure might be rather challenging...

You could do a great Quickstep to 'Love Cats'.

xsquared · 17/11/2024 08:06

Whizzed through last night's show.

Blackpool never seems quite spectacular for me. As I thought, it seems Pete, Wynne, and Jamie were the cheesy comedic acts which usually means dance off fodder. Terrible trousers for all of them and even Pete was embarrassed by having to mince about to I'm too sexy.

Jamie had incredible energy and his retraction of the kicks and flicks was very good. He deserved better than this cheesy gimmicky theme though. He is overdue a ballroom and I hope they will give him something sensible to wear!

Hated Sarah's couple choice, but then again I don't get the fuss about Fosse.

Tasha's dance was dance of the night to me, but her facial expressions looked more like disgust rather than haughtiness which I associate more with Paso face.

JB was okay, but music didn't help.

Montell's wasn't quite right. I agree with Criag's comments.

Chris and Dianne were lovely.

I think that's it. All a bit lacklustre.

Pumpkincozynights · 17/11/2024 08:21

I really enjoy Blackpool week. The venue is so much better than the mock up at Elstree. And yes, I have been to both.
I’m hoping that Pete ends up in the dance off before the final when it is all down to a popularity contest.
I don’t have a favourite this year but I really dislike it when an average man wins over a much more talented woman.
Shirley really needs to get a grip and stop over marking him, it’s becoming embarrassing.
I’d like to see JB, Wynne, Jamie and Pete in the next few dance offs so that the judges will vote out the weakest one of them each week.
I don’t dislike them but I don’t feel they should win.
I absolutely don’t care if the winner has had previous dance experience,
I don’t understand all the bile spewed out towards certain dancers who can dance.
This doesn’t happen on other shows.
Nobody stamps their feet that the winner of bake off has a mother who owned a bakery. Or spent Sunday afternoons learning to bake with their grandmother who was a head chef.
It’s very childish and immature. Tasha gets a lot of online hate and it’s vile. Pure jealousy.
Anyway I posted upthread that I predict Montell will be in the dance off, if she’s up against Tasha or Sarah she will be a gonna.

m00rfarm · 16/11/2024 19:49

The backing dancers - there is one man who is trying to be the main act. Ridiculous. Are they not told they are not the important ones in this dance. Worse than Neil.

Edited

Ha ha we always say that about Neil too - that he is constantly shoving himself into the foreground of every shot, doing “crazy” antics for attention and always looking for the camera!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 17/11/2024 08:48

I've always thought Blackpool week was a bit pants. The one year they went to Wembley instead was awful though.

I think Wynne is at risk after that awful, awful Charleston although he did his best.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 17/11/2024 08:51

How many viewers will know these things about Bake Off contestants though? I don't and I've watched every series. Is this info on SM somewhere?

xsquared · 17/11/2024 08:51

Re the drag act foe Ts and Cs. Fine, they are part of the whole Blackpool vibe, but I agree that the BBC does seem fixated with them, not so casually inserting them in family friendly programmes.

bendmeoverbackwards · 16/11/2024 21:55

I miss Come Dancing from the 70s. No stupid themes or costumes, just great dancing.

Yes, I agree. If they’re going to have all these themed nights, they should have a ‘traditional night’ where they wear the big fluffy dresses and the black tie (for ballroom) etc. Rarely do you see this attire now.

Think the paso reference was the hand gesticulation - the hand, palm up, going up in the air. That's what Jamie did when he said it to Anton anyway. I totally clocked Jamie's mother rolling her eyes at the comments 😆, and also Jowita's RBF and slow clapping of Tasha. Miaow!

The big band arrangement of Jump has been done by Paul Anka (someone asked on the previous thread). Loved the dance - Chris looks really well these days, he's lost weight and has colour in his cheeks.

I imagine the DO will be Montell and Wynne, although Pete should be there. That cha cha was basically him walking around swinging his bum cheeks.

MabelMora · 17/11/2024 08:54

Plus it was Russell Grant who was fired out of a cannon at Wembley.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 17/11/2024 08:56

I've said it before on these threads, but Chris's posture has improved too.

Somewhere I've got a CD of Paul Anka doing swing versions of pop songs.

Lentilweaver · 17/11/2024 09:11

Oh I miss Nigel Harman. Middle aged man not doing comedy routines, not wearing PVC trousers and not relying on a sympathy vote. Just dancing properly and allowing Katya to show her skills. I even miss Layton!

Bring back more ringers, I say.

mydogisthebest · 17/11/2024 09:18

I agree about Chris' posture and, as someone with terrible posture, I know it is not that easy to correct.

I have not really been a fan of Chris but loved his dance last night.

Clawdy · 17/11/2024 09:20

If Wynne is in the dance off they will choose him to stay no matter who the other act is.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/11/2024 09:39

Clawdy · 17/11/2024 09:20

If Wynne is in the dance off they will choose him to stay no matter who the other act is.

Why on earth would you think that? All four judges scored Wynne lower than Montell and JB, who are his most likely DO opponents. Also Tasha, but that's a less likely match-up.

Motsi and Shirley scored Jamie the same as Wynne so it's theoretically possible that Wynne could be saved against Jamie but I think it's unlikely, and we know he has a better vote than JB and Montell anyway.

gingercat02 · 17/11/2024 09:44

I'm just catching up now. Pete could put me off men for life in those trousers 🫣 I hated pretty much everything about that. The song was destroyed, and I could bear to look at most of it. Jowita was counting the whole time.
Loved Chris and Di, can't warm to Sarah, and didn't enjoy the routine, Wynne was danced at by the whirlwind that is Katya.

Clawdy · 17/11/2024 09:45

Yes, you're probably right! Just got so cross last week that they voted Shayne out.

Hedjwitch · 17/11/2024 09:48

Katya didn't help Wynne with the frenetic choreography which would have exhausted a younger, fitter man. It showed what he couldn't do,not showcased what he can do.

If Anton perved over the bodies of the young female dancers the way Shirley does over the young males, there would be an outcry! It's gross. Get a grip and act like a professional.

Runningupthecurtains · 17/11/2024 09:51

Clawdy · 17/11/2024 09:20

If Wynne is in the dance off they will choose him to stay no matter who the other act is.

I doubt Shirley would save Wynne over Pete!
