Bake Off 24 Part Two: a meltingly light and fluffy thread taking us all the way to the final.

The last thread filled up fast in a heated debate about Alison's acrobatic antics. Join us here for the last two episodes.

Whose patisserie will carry them through the semi final and who will experience the frustration of missing out on the final 3? Will anyone fall off a stool, workbench or just trip over their own feet? Will the finalists surpass their previous efforts or will the last showstopper be a series of damp squibs? Not long to find out.

Isn’t the point to win bake off ? Becoming a national treasure is yours to earn afterwards!

soupfiend · 27/11/2024 18:24

I loved Nellie and Andy in terms of personality I hope they get some sort of radio/pod cast/tv thing, very funny and they're best friends now

Liam has done pretty well presenting the bake off professionals show. And he didn't even get to the final.

He’s also one of the judges on Junior Bake Off and is excellent on there, really good at giving constructive feedback at a level that works with the children.

They were both my faves - didn’t take anything too seriously,

This is not meant unkindly but the fact that Candice wrote a piece making Georgie's win about her might be part of the reason why the public hasn't warmed to her as it has to other winners and contestants.

Butteredtoast55 · 27/11/2024 19:28

I think it was fair that Georgie won as she was consistent, creative and used lovely flavours. Dylan really did struggle, perhaps due to the pressure, but it wasn't the first time he's messed up and he was clearly a bit of a favourite from the start. He deserves to do really well.
Christiaan got better as the pack thinned out but his flavours were always iffy. On the whole it's been a really good series though and the group were great to watch.

periodiclabel · 27/11/2024 20:31

Couldn't watch last night and avoided the news, social media all day - though something flashed up at me about Dylan and a Michelin-starred restaurant that made me think he must have won. Then watched now and saw him messing everything up. He was the best baker and imo Christiaan the second best but they both messed it up - Dylan big time and C with his flavours in the showstopper. Georgie was consistently good and good on the night. So well done her.

Does anyone know the restaurant Dylan works at, I hope he becomes another Heston or equivalent, he is so talented

Where Does Dylan From Bake Off Work?
At the end of last night’s episode, it was revealed that Dylan has fulfilled his dream of becoming a professional chef. He works at Five Fields in Chelsea, London, a modern British restaurant centered around seasonal produce – some from the venue’s own kitchen garden in East Sussex.

Which Restaurant Does Bake Off’s Dylan Work At?

He was the bookies’ favourite to win Great British Bake Off 2024, but Dylan Bachelet ended up losing out to Georgie Grass in last night’s finale. He was

We'd been away for a few days and managed to avoid any social media or news reports so me and DH caught up on the final when we got back yesterday.

Going into the final we would have said Dylan was odds on to win, although we didn't mind who did to be honest. But what a week to have a nightmare! It started badly for him and then just went downhill. I was pleased for Georgie, her Showstopper was lovely. Cristiaan pushed his flavours a bit too far I thought, and his bake wasn't good.

Overall I thought it was a lovely series with some really nice characters - it was good to see them all back at the end (including Jeff). Pleased to see that Dylan has got himself a position in a Michelin starred restaurant. That boy will go far I think. DH said he could see him popping up on Great British Menu in a few years!

Caught up with Extra Slice last night so that's the series done and dusted for me.

I've really enjoyed it, it's definitely improved after a few years of being less fun to watch. In particular, Paul has seemed much more positive about the bakers rather than telling them how crap they are all the time. It's been helped by a slight easing of the timings, so fewer challenges where everyone messed up, (which was always a sign it was the challenge and not the bakers that was the problem). Noel and Alison work well together and have added to a really warm, watchable vibe.

And the bakers were just great! The standard, particularly the younger ones, was stunning. Dylan has done a few interviews saying he hadn't baked a lot before the series. He must have worked his socks off to achieve those results, and it makes sense that he came adrift under the pressure of the final. But what he achieved over the ten weeks was phenomenal.

A lovely series.

I loved Dylan saying the best thing was the free dinners!

"you could eat as much as you liked and didn't have to pay for it"
Exactly the thing my DS would say (though he can't bake!)

Yes, absolutely! No contestant has ever mentioned the free food before - though plenty have complained about putting on weight during the series. Of course it would be a 2O year old lad, they have bottomless appetite at that age. Ending each weekend with a free, high quality lunch would be an amazing reward after all that hard work.

He has, or has had, TV shows and at least one book as well, no? and a Guardian column.

Yes, you're right. He was, I think, a drama student when he was on the show and has made a very respectable career from it. As have many others, including a fair few who didn't win. Pink haired Carole ("Compost Carole") only made it half way through but has said she's having an amazing time doing food festivals. But I think she was retired so doesn't need to earn a living from it.

So the Candice tweet is very interesting. I googled her and she did a full Hello spread in 2019, so did have currency for a few years after she won in 2016. But she hasn't found a long term niche and it obviously hurts. Maybe the pub was the wrong strategy, it must take a tremendous amount of time and effort to make it work.
