Bake Off 24 Part Two: a meltingly light and fluffy thread taking us all the way to the final.

The last thread filled up fast in a heated debate about Alison's acrobatic antics. Join us here for the last two episodes.

Whose patisserie will carry them through the semi final and who will experience the frustration of missing out on the final 3? Will anyone fall off a stool, workbench or just trip over their own feet? Will the finalists surpass their previous efforts or will the last showstopper be a series of damp squibs? Not long to find out.

Christiaan was robbed

No! His showstopper was dreadful - looked awful and apparently tasted bad too.

Hedjwitch · 26/11/2024 21:31

Not happy with that. Both Dylan and Christiaan were better bakers

I wonder if he could tell them he was a bake off finalist? It won't do him any harm in future, certainly.

surely can’t hurt?!

I agree with you in principle, yes they were both better bakers.

Her cake was a classic victoria sponge mix with a classic filling. Not technically challenging at all, whereas both Dylan with his genoise and Christian with his jarring flavours tried to do something more ambitious.

But in this case, neither of them pulled it off and hers was perfect. So safe and pretty won over modern and ambitious.

If either of them had managed to produce a delicious cake, they would have won and she would have been criticised for doing a Gill and playing it too safe. but they didn't, so her gamble paid off. Perfectly fair within the context of the programme.

Unfortunately Dylan threw that away by having a shocker in all three rounds. It was his to win. Worst time ever to have a bad week.

Did she mention that and I missed it?

Yes, she did (only mentioned it tonight).

Ah, bless her, that makes sense. I was probably typing away on here, need to go back and watch it again really!

Well done Georgie 👏 🎂 🥮 🧁 🍰
I do think it all came down to the final showstopper, she was way better than either C or D in that round.

RIP Dawn, I remember her well - lovely lady ❤️ 💔

Gutted for Christiaan. The second they commented on his showstopper flavours my heart sank.
Like Georgie. Don't think she should have won based on all three challenges.

I was delighted for Georgie. She did well on the first two challenges and was best by far on the final challenge. Dylan's final cake was a mess. Christiaan's didn't look great and tasted odd. Prue said she would have struggled to eat a whole slice. Georgie's looked beautiful and tasted great. Job done. Good on her.

Really enjoyed this series. Hope they continue next year with having sensible challenges and timings.

Can't believe how cross I am that Georgie won 😣

Dylan has been amazing, he probably only did 5 bakes across the whole series that weren't great. Unfortunately 3 of them were in the final.

He was still robbed though.

To be fair, there was one week he nearly went home as well. I guess they have to judge on the day.

Ellmau · 26/11/2024 22:21

Georgie's cake was so pretty. I loved it.

Christiaan's looked like lampshades on top of each other.

Poor Dylan just had a nightmare.

Xmasmusings · 26/11/2024 22:23

I thought the right person won. Even though they weren't perfect, her scones were the ones I would have chosen to eat and the showstopper cake was miles better than the other two.

That said, Christiaan can leave with his head held high, he improved a lot and retained his distinctive approach to baking with interesting flavour combinations.

And Dylan may be disappointed at not winning but he'll probably be the most memorable contestant and this may well set him up for his future career (and if he fancies a change he can be a pirate in a Disney live action movie coming to a cinema near you in the not-too-distant future).

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 26/11/2024 22:27

Georgie has talked openly and movingly on Instagram about her ADHD and the loss of her baby. To be fair it's only lightly touched on in GBBO though so I can understand people's perspective. It's quite different when you've heard her story.

Three excellent finalists. Personally the classic flavours done beautifully would be the one I'd want to eat so I'm chuffed Georgie won.

Xmasmusings · 26/11/2024 22:28

Forgot to say, I liked her house as well! And the amazing views from her beautiful garden.

EatTheBastard · 26/11/2024 22:29

Just watched it on catch up. Wrong result, Christiaan was the best across the 3 challenges.

Carriemac · 26/11/2024 22:29

She really deserved it on the night . Lovely set of finalists this year .

BeaLola · 26/11/2024 22:32

Thought they were a lovely group overall.

Interesting that Gill per judges played it too safe, didn't push boundaries etc. but tonight judges were oh it's a classic but there's a reason why there a classic ....

Xmasmusings · 26/11/2024 22:35

I think they went with the classic tonight because the experimental approach didn't work on that last bake. If it had, the ambitious one would have won it. It's not unusual for the showstopper to be the bake that carries the most significance for the judging.

deeahgwitch · 26/11/2024 22:37

Itstoday · 26/11/2024 21:14

With that many people at the final how does it not get leaked who won?

I wondered that too.
Georgie's showstopper looked amazing.
Just goes to show "Don't Give Up"
She nearly walked out in the Semi Final.

Yes, but they explained that. If you go for the safe and classic route it has to be faultless, and Georgie's hanging cake was pretty much faultless. It tasted good, it was well baked and it was beautifully decorated. The others were trying something a bit different with flavours or decoration and unfortunately neither of them were even close to being faultless.

Fizbosshoes · 26/11/2024 23:04

I've just caught up I was gutted for Dylan everything seemed to go wrong. I think once it starts to unravel it's difficult to get it together.
I couldn't decide between the other 2 and i thought christian might edge it, but I felt like it was set up for Georgie to win she had a shocker the week Nellie left and the judges didn't even mention it
Her showstopper looked amazing though.
I somehow missed it was meant to be a hanging cake so when they started assembling it I was quite discombobulated!!🤣

Really glad Dylan is working in a Michelin starred restaurant though.

NotMeForBakeoff · 26/11/2024 22:17

I actually think he should have gone home that week instead of Sumayah based on that week's performance alone. But the judges chose to save him as he was overall the better baker and had unique flavours and innovative bakes in earlier weeks. He was never going to get a save like that in the final if he messed up.

He did really badly in all three tasks...why would he have won?

Not on that weekend they weren't 🤷‍♀️
