Bake Off 24 Part Two: a meltingly light and fluffy thread taking us all the way to the final.

The last thread filled up fast in a heated debate about Alison's acrobatic antics. Join us here for the last two episodes.

Whose patisserie will carry them through the semi final and who will experience the frustration of missing out on the final 3? Will anyone fall off a stool, workbench or just trip over their own feet? Will the finalists surpass their previous efforts or will the last showstopper be a series of damp squibs? Not long to find out.

@Maggiethecat I made one for dh’s birthday this year. I am not a confident baker but it wasn’t as much of a faff as I expected and we all enjoyed it (it was huge!). Couldn’t find kitsch nowhere though. Used a Polish cherry flavoured vodka instead which worked ok. Used this recipe. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/black-forest-gateau. Picture of final result attached. Ganache looked crap but tasted fine.

@haggisaggis - that looks scrummy!

Thanks for the recipe which looks more manageable; I’ve seen some with the cake finished off covered in cream and chocolate shavings added - a bit of a stretch for me!

Webbb · 14/11/2024 17:27

That looks yummmm

Tigresswoods · 14/11/2024 17:49

Oh goodness I've said something inappropriate.

For the record I actually do really like Alison.

Fizbosshoes · 14/11/2024 19:40

I love Alison on Bake Off.
For me Noel and Matt didn't work well at all - neither of them seem remotely interested in baking , and imo seemed to try and make (unfunny) jokes with/about the bakers.
One of my favourite things about Jurgen (there were lots, he was very good) was him turning his back and completely ignoring Matt Lucas making a (probably awful) joke! 🤣

Back to the present series, I was gutted when Nellie left and that week I was sure Georgie would be in the running to be sent home but somehow was overlooked. I do think she has improved and her show stopper looked amazing. I loved Sumaya, her cakes were amazing. I absolutely hate mint , so Dylans cake would have been a nightmare but it did look good!
I really don't mind who wins

Thank you!

CatDogGuineaPig · 14/11/2024 20:28

Tom Allen is on top form on Extra Slice tonight 🤣

GetSetFake · 15/11/2024 08:35

Didn't catch it all but saw Illyn at the end. She has a very authoritative manner, doesn't she? And a book on motherhood, apparently.

I was a bit disappointed in the "I left my clueless husband with the kids and they survived" routine, I'd like to think young assertive women had got beyond that in the 21st century. I guess we see on here that there actually are a lot of clueless husbands around, though. But if you're going to go on national TV and gently mock your husband, I prefer Gill's joke about how she's able to screen Noel out because she's been married so long.

@BoneTiredandWired,

OK, you lovely lot, as the last thread closed abruptly in a flurry of slightly narky posts about Alison's acrobatics, there wasn't a chance to link to a new thread. So I have laboriously gone through the last few days of the thread and cut and pasted all the active user names - hope it works.

You can repay me (and the lovely HobNobsWantsHerNameBack, who kindly started the original GBBO24 thread) with lots of comments, speculation, facts, gossip, opinions and hopefully a minimum of arsiness and personal criticism. But hey, if you must, you must - this is Mumsnet after all. Happy Baking everyone.🎂🍰🍪🍩

Thank you for tagging me in this - I'm actually a week behind so need to catch up! 🙈

AnImaginaryCat · 15/11/2024 22:26

Thank you for the tag!!

I solemnly swear on my soggy bottom to keep it light, fluffy, and sweeter than Mary Berry's sponge. No arsey drama, just lots of comments, speculation, facts, gossip, opinions and a bit a of batter.

Xmasbaby11 · 15/11/2024 23:03

I'm enjoying it more and more as the weeks go on! I think the bakers are diverse and all bring something different. I feel like Dylan and Georgie are probably the strongest as they continue to improve, or more noticeably than the others. I also really love Allison with Noel - to me they are both really funny and work well together.

deeahgwitch · 17/11/2024 21:03

Thank you for the new thread @GetSetFake

ItsAStupidQuestion · 18/11/2024 22:53

Just caught up - Alison falling gave me the giggles 😆

Sorry all, but coffee and walnut has nothing on my favourite - date and walnut! Only ever seen it at garden centres for approximately £1,582 for 25g of the stuff 🤣

PrincessScarlett · 19/11/2024 20:01

Wow, Dylan is competing with Prue for gigantic necklaces.

GetSetFake · 19/11/2024 20:02

I liked Dylan's little exploration of probability!

Ooh, an overnight prep. That's the first time they've ever done a full puff, I think.

periodiclabel · 19/11/2024 20:08

Gill’s ooh I’m so chill and amateur me schtick is starting to grate here

RonSwansonsChair · 19/11/2024 20:09

Really, really, really want Gill to get through (and to win!)

Puff pastry is such a faff, who ever came up with it?

GetSetFake · 19/11/2024 20:13

I would so eat Gill's Pain au Sausage!

OP posts:
FawnDrench · 19/11/2024 20:17

Just bloody get on with it!
All this enforced tension and anguished looks is grating now.

Pancakeflipper · 19/11/2024 20:21

Of course it's been rushed Paul. They have a time limit and lots to do

Butteredtoast55 · 19/11/2024 20:23

I had to go outside to plug the car in ....what's going on with Dylan's timing?

Pancakeflipper · 19/11/2024 20:24

Dylan misunderstood the instructions when rehearsing at home and thought it was 2 hrs instead of 3. So in.the tent he was thinking "yippee" but it didn't really help.

Pancakeflipper · 19/11/2024 20:24

Oh more layers to stuff up...

PrincessScarlett · 19/11/2024 20:26

Love Gill's comment that "you can never have too much sausage" 😂
