Bake Off 24 Part Two: a meltingly light and fluffy thread taking us all the way to the final.

The last thread filled up fast in a heated debate about Alison's acrobatic antics. Join us here for the last two episodes.

Whose patisserie will carry them through the semi final and who will experience the frustration of missing out on the final 3? Will anyone fall off a stool, workbench or just trip over their own feet? Will the finalists surpass their previous efforts or will the last showstopper be a series of damp squibs? Not long to find out.

Georgie deserved to win. Dylan has done many amazing things over the last few weeks but he messed up every bake in the final. Don't forget that Georgie got star baker on more than one occasion, too.

Dylan will go far. I was so happy to see that he has a job in a Michelin star kitchen. I would not be surprised at all if he pops up on Masterchef (or Bake off) The Professionals in a few years time. I would thoroughly enjoy seeing him work his magic again.

QueenBitch666 · 27/11/2024 01:22

Fabulous outcome and series. Absolutely gutted it's finished. Anyone know where Georgie gets her dresses from? They're glorious!

billysboy · 27/11/2024 06:24

Good for Georgie a worthy winner
anyone of them could have won on the day but Georgie channelled her ADHD and hyper focus
really pleased for her

NigelHarmansNewWife · 27/11/2024 08:21

I said last week it was Dylan's to lose and he went to pieces. Some of the comments about Georgie are really harsh and critical of her personality. She's shown herself to be really competent and consistent.

Ebabllisstggoffor · 27/11/2024 09:08

Georgie was my second choice after Dylan. Poor Dylan, nerves got the better of hIm. I’m happy he’s secured a job in a Michelin star restaurant, he will be amazing.

My DH though Christiann should have won, as he was out in front after two rounds. I don’t think he should have won with liquorice in his filling and the judges didn’t like it.

mydogisthebest · 27/11/2024 10:22

I wanted Dylan to win but thought Christiaan deserved it. I was just not keen on Georgie

GetSetFake · 27/11/2024 11:30

This came up on my feed today. It seems a bit sad. I think she's saying - it doesn't last, make the most of it. She had a lot of media attention at first, lots of red carpet appearances, but I guess she didn't find a career from it and it all seems a long time ago now.

Interestingly, Jane Beedle, who is in the picture as a finalist, has very much kept her Bake Off story going, teaching classes and doing a podcast with Bake With A Legend. But I suspect Candice wanted bigger things from it.

The point is that it's a knockout competition, and on any given week a great baker could have a bad time and have to go.
If it was based on the best over all they'd keep everyone in for the whole series and then decide the winner based on their total performances in all the different categories.
So last night was the right decision, and congratulations to Georgie.

LilacLilyBird · 27/11/2024 12:35

I hope to see more of Dylan, Nellie and Christiaan on TV and stuff

EatTheBastard · 27/11/2024 12:36

I'm over invested i know.. I've re-watched it and if that had been any other week, Christiaan would have won star baker - he performed the best over the 3 challenges.

So I do not understand why he wasn’t the winner.

LilacLilyBird · 27/11/2024 12:38

I thought he'd be the winner too

I think his cake was dry was it ? And they're not liquorice fans

His showstopper did not taste good! The flavours fought and the sponge was dry. The Showstopper is the biggest bake, often nearly as much time as the first two put together, and it's probably right that it counts for more than the others. It has to be spot on, and only Georgie's was. He often got his flavours slightly wrong over the series, and this was his undoing again this time.

The one in the final is Karen Millen.

If I recall correctly @GetSetFake Candice got a lot of publicity post the GBBO and was a columnist for the Sunday Times Magazine for a while. Their "Cake Expert" as it were.

Yes, it's interesting isn't it? I would think of her as one of the "stars" but definitely a hint of wistfulness in that post.

Martha still does bits for Waitrose. Jo has her cookery school and books. Nadiya is the most successful with her own programmes and books and baked the cake for the Queen.

I think Candice's problem was she wasn't very likeable and has tried her hand at being a celebrity rather than a baker but it hasn't worked, she was on Dancing on Ice and has popped up at various celeb things.

NotMeForBakeoff · 27/11/2024 13:54

I've just read that Georgie had a meltdown as the necklace she wore had a handprint and footprint of her baby that was stillborn in 2021. Half way through the show stopper, she realised that it had broken and fallen off. They only later found the pieces. 😔

That was much earlier in the series, I think - possibly the puppet show week. They were quite respectful and didn't show it, whereas the stress of the last two weeks has been much more visible.

If ever there was anyone to achieve great commercial success from any of these competitions/ shows it’s Nadiya. Who would have thought the level of success!

soupfiend · 27/11/2024 15:44

People forget about Chetna too, she has a really successful book range, cooking company and youtube channel, I follow her

CrossPurposes · 27/11/2024 15:55

The first ever winner, Edd Kimber, is still producing best sellers. In fact, I'm eating one of his biscuits right now.

Liam has done pretty well presenting the bake off professionals show. And he didn't even get to the final.

Hedjwitch · 26/11/2024 21:16

I agree. Her meltdown in the semi final was embarrassing.

She took the piss out of herself afterwards though, which made me feel warm towards her.

AnImaginaryCat · 27/11/2024 17:32

Wouldn't be surprised if Georgie goes down the Insta route. She's already a load of followers and doing baking videos.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 27/11/2024 17:46

Did John Waite win it? He's become a fully fledged celeb, but I didn't watch then so don't know if he won.
