This is our tenth anniversary of sharing our thoughts on Our Girl series one and have subsequently watched the other three series, followed by Soldier Soldier, The Musketeers, Spooks and Hustle so thought it was time to try something different. Please join us and share your thoughts if you have ever been a fan of Downton Abbey. We are currently on series one, episode three.

The very thought of having a married woman on the staff at Downton, even though her husband has died.

I suppose it wasn't long before there were thousands of women like her having to take up work to support themselves and children in the years that followed.

Mary being evasive, but Matthew reading between the lines.

Rhubarb01 · 05/02/2025 21:29

Well, the Major is a complete bounder!!

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:29

Matthew just realising trouble with his legs

And a cad.

Rhubarb01 · 05/02/2025 21:30

Mary goes to see Sir Richard to beg his assistance over the Mr Pamuk incident. He really isn't very nice. He seems to be enjoying having her at his mercy.

Just what I was going to say!

In fact Sir Richard's reasons for marrying remind me a bit of Darcy's first proposal.

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:32

Sir Richard showing his true colours

Ilovelblue · 05/02/2025 21:32

Sir Richard is not a pleasant character.

Lavinia isn't getting Matthew's drift...oops...now she's embarrassed.

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:34

Lordship very condescengly agrees to a widow working at Downton

Ilovelblue · 05/02/2025 21:34

I just want to shake Daisy! I know she's not meant to be the brghtest of characters but has she no compassion, knowing William isn't going to make it.

Matthew tries to release Lavinia from her promise to marry him because he can't be a proper husband. All very noble and sad.

Rhubarb01 · 05/02/2025 21:35

Alert...Garage conversation. They shot the Tsar!! Of course, Tom is a bit of a Bolshevik ...er...socialist. Once again he tries to exact a promise from her.

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:36

Tom.putting pressure on Sybil

Rhubarb01 · 05/02/2025 21:37

Sir Richard tricks Mrs Bates into signing away her rights to the story about Lady Mary and the Turkish gentleman.

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:37

Oh lord Mrs Bates has is talking to Sir Richard. All at his behest it seems

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:38

Oh Daisy please have a little compassion.

Rhubarb01 · 05/02/2025 21:39

Meanwhile, Mrs Patmore and Mrs Hughes are pressurising poor Daisy. She feels awful about William believing she loves him. Ahh...poor William he wants Daisy to marry him so that she will be his widow with a pension. So sad, but so kind.

Magi84 · 05/02/2025 21:40

William such a caring lad.

Ilovelblue · 05/02/2025 21:40

Very good of William to try to ensure Daisy gets a widow's war pension. She is so ridiculously naive.

I used to work with a woman who liked an audience when she cried!
