Oliver Chris is fabulous as James V but I think I would have cast him as RCB!

Victoria Smurfit is so beautiful and is playing Maud perfectly IMO

We binge watched 3 episodes last night and it's absolutely BRILLIANT. I was very apprehensive but it's so true to the book it's wonderful. The 80s music and the OTT characters is very true to the decade.

Casting is stellar for everyone apart from Rupert. He's so not the Rupert I had in my head whatsoever. In fact, I'd go as far as saying he's not remotely attractive even with the hot body. Reminds me of something out of "The Incredibles".

I'm also on episode 3 and absolutely loving it.

I mean I managed to watch Pride and Prejudice completely blanking Matthew MacFadyen out so maybe I could block out not-RCB for the whole series.

I love that that is exactly how everyone looks in the 80s, including my aunt who was a part time model, hostessed on Saudi Air and wet her jeans in the bath to shrink them 😀

Just binged episodes 1&2. RCB is mid-cast but I’m loving Aidan Turner as Declan.

DD1 is loving it too and is off to start reading Riders.

DH is bemused that I can remember who everyone is as he hasn’t read the books for 20+ years - he didn’t realise I’d bought them all again on Kindle and re-read them all a year or 2 ago 🤣

Aiden Turner looks like Dickie Davis. Alex Hassell looks like Buzz Lightyear. All the men are supremely unattractive, which must have been a deliberate choice and seems at odds with the sentiments of the books.

Can't us old birds have SOME eye candy??

DH has finally sloped off to bed and RCB is all mine - this is something I need to watch by myself. Gutted that I don't fancy Rupert in the slightest although he is younger than I imagined him. Loving Declan. Taggy is exactly how I imagined her.
I'm just 10 minutes in but I'm hooked, just wanted to come here and say I'm loving it already. Jilly Cooper is God. Amen.

The actress playing Taggie really reminds me of Patsy Kensit.

#notmyrupert He looks like Robbie Rottern! However I do think the actor has captured the character incredibly well, he just doesn't look the part from the neck upwards! Quite frankly who could live up to playing that character thoigh? I do love the Taggie actress and Lizzie.is wow.
Does anyone know the theme music? I've got a vague memory from the book that the Rivals is an opera reference- Gilbert and Sullivan perhaps?

Only seen ep1 and want it to last but loving it so far. Anyone else a poldark fan who noticed Aidan turner/declan’s house was also frequented by him in poldark!

This is brilliant! Binge watched it all. Can’t wait until everyone else has finished! Think Maud and Lizzie and Taggie are perfectly cast. Think the men grew on me by the end. But it is not the complete book!
