Are there any other Jilly Cooper fans out there? I feel ridiculously excited about Rivals coming out.

Very sad news, it appears she died following a fall so it was unexpected. She threw a party for the cast at her home quite recently. I'm glad she was back in the limelight in the last year to receive some well deserved tributes and recognition of her talent.

I'm so sad. She was such a hero of mine. Rest in peace, dear Jilly. I hope she'll be reunited with all her dogs in heaven 💗

It’s so sad. I read and reread all her novels from my early twenties. She was witty, sharp, self deprecating, and her descriptions of Upper Class England were spot on.
Her columns in The Times, before her novels were brilliant.

About twenty years ago I was friends with someone who was a driver for a local TV station. He had to drive Jilly back to Gloucestershire after filming locally. It was a long drive, and he arrived at her house close to midnight. She was horrified that he was then going to do the six hour drive back. Not taking no for an answer, she insisted that he stay in her cottage in the guest room. The next morning he got up to find her cooking him a full English breakfast. She then waved him off with a flask of coffee and snacks for the journey.

You were a special lady Jilly, may you rest in peace x

That’s a lovely story Middlemarch!

What a lovely story Middlemarch. I’ve read so many stories about her kindness towards people she barely knew.

I love that story, what a gorgeous, generous soul. That’s exactly how I imagined she would be.
I’m so sad about her passing. Her books are my comfort blanket. Was fortunate enough to see her at the South Bank last year, she was a real national treasure.
