Who here will watch Philip fake cry and protest his innocence?! He did nothing wrong, did he?

I watched this - and enjoyed it. He's good on camera and I wanted to watch him in this situation as I'm fascinated with all types of people - warts and all.
It was absolutely right that he was sacked from ITV but he doesn't quite get it. There is some poor me stuff but he's not overly self pitying.

It was too soon really and I think some people actively avoided it so as not to contribute to viewings. Give it another few years and people might have been curious, but he had to have his say now didn’t he.

It is way too soon and have to say I’m pleased it flopped.

He really thinks he’s something does Philith.

Edited

His is, though, as he's taking no accountability for any of it, and is juzyt excusing what he thinks the issues were, and blaming others.

I only work on facts and I don't think anyone can say he knew about and hid what his brother did as a 100% fact. I appreciate he met the guy when he was young and yes he did wrong and he abused his power but he's paid a high price. Is Cheryl cole for example much different, she met Liam when he was 14 and she was 24
I'm just trying to see it for what it is and now what the press tell us, we all know they like to manipulate the narrative to suit them.

Well for a start 14 and 24 is a much closer gap than 15 and "late forties". Did Cheryl also get him a job that was junior to her, or have an otherwise power imbalance?

I'm not excusing 14 and 24. I think that's gross too. But whataboutery isn't a great justification for Schofield's behaviour. We can be appalled by both. If we play the whataboutery game though, Schofield's actions were still more problematic than Cole's (what I know of hers).

Yes there's no real accountability where there's self pity. He uses the word 'unwise' a lot to explain away his 'mistake'. He genuinely looks like he doesn't understand the gravity and I wonder if he's been around a lot of yes people throughout his life. Never really challenged whereby he has to take responsibility.

The contradictions are interesting. He talks with outrage at about being thrown under a bus by 'fake friends'. He says he would never do that to his own friends. Then he glosses over how he betrayed his family. His wife and kids do seem very happy around him. You don't get a sense there were consequences for his behaviour. There may have been I don't know ..

dayswithaY · 03/10/2024 16:19

That’s the bit that confuses me. His wife and daughters seem to be just fine with everything he did and they co-exist in a happy little unit.

His wife isn’t angry that he cheated on her/lied about his sexuality? His daughters don’t feel let down or hurt by his actions?

Very unusual. Almost as if it was no surprise to them.

Channel 5 have sunk to new lows with this one!!

Did they do it to give him enough rope to hang himself do you think? The excuses were eye opening 😱

NewMaltese · 03/10/2024 17:10

Could anyone remind me how it went from PS crying on the sofa and telling the public he's gay, to him being sacked?

PS and wife met at work, so she will always have known about his sexuality, everyone did in the TV world. I expect the arrangement suited them both. I don't think he lied to any of his family, they knew.

He befriended a school boy, groomed him as a child, once old enough gave him a job at This Morning and then started a sexual relationship with him.
He also didn't report his brother to the police after he confessed to sexually abusing a child.. He told him to get therapy and to never do it again. He disowned his brother after he was charged by the police.

There were rumours swirling around, lots of jokes on social media about how “he’s done a runner” etc. Then, there was that odd interaction with Ruth on Loose Women when he rudely cut her off. Obviously, things were a bit toxic at ITV - didn’t Ruth and Eamonn get dumped from This Morning?

Finally, I think he did a deal with The Sun where they promised to be kind about the relationship with the younger man if Phil gave them an exclusive and he “came clean” about the affair.

He then forced ITV’s hand essentially, as they couldn’t be seen to support him after he admitted an affair with a younger, junior, guy on their payroll.

They say he resigned, he now says “sacked “.

This quote from the Guardian enraged me this morning "it’s not an unusual thing in the gay world for there to be a difference in age groups.”

But in the article were they not pointing out that this is often used to excuse grooming? I had a different take on what they were saying.
