Do people fancy Nick? Never seen him in anything so struggling to work out his appeal. Luba to me is the most ordeal pro and always has been so that can’t help him. Didn’t watch it all last night but zi loved Wynn and would have given him a vote

Arconialiving · 29/09/2024 11:05

What do you mean by 'ordeal pro' @periodiclabel ?

Shellingbynight · 29/09/2024 11:06

I don't know if anyone fancies Nick but I think he's very likeable, he comes across well in interviews and was very matter of fact about his injury. Shirley emphasised how little time he had to train so it's likely he will get a sympathy vote.

nervouslandlord · 29/09/2024 11:07

@periodiclabel I would definitely asign NK to the 'Avoid' category.

Piggywaspushed · 29/09/2024 11:09

One thing a friend once told me is that NK is a chain smoker. If true, that won't help his fitness!

Samcro · 29/09/2024 11:09

isn't nick engaged to a very young woman?
I like him but don't fancy him lol

EvilRingahBitch · 29/09/2024 11:11

I threw Nick a vote, I thought he danced what he was given pretty well under the circumstances and has room to improve and turn into a very watchable dancer. And I like Luba, who's not had good luck in this show.

It would explain his skin.

Sorry autocorrect! I can’t even remember what word I wanted to use but most unappealing or dullest pro is what I was thinking… Orhers are free to disagree but she just doesn’t do it for me. Thanks of ops on NK I was just trying to work out if he was a middle aged woman’s sex symbol a la Kevin McCloud. I thought the judges were very kind continually pointing out his injury - rightly so but sometimes they completely ignore this kind of thing

I'm guessing ordinary.

He's had three wives and is now engaged to a much younger woman.

Runningupthecurtains · 29/09/2024 11:40

He's had three wives see also Paul Merson. They have found some princes among men for us this year. I wonder if they were seeking a nailed on affair to generate headlines???

Paul Merson ugh.

DV accusations......... not good.
Hmm

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/09/2024 11:52

You'd think that given the scandal over how female celebs have been treated they would have been careful to pick male celebs who were not misogynistic.

Anyway I voted for toyah and Punam - punam because she was undermarked and toyah because I think she is loving it but is hindered by Neil's choreography. And yes to the previous poster who pointed out that people thought he helped Katya with her choreography previously - that's clearly not true

nervouslandlord · 29/09/2024 10:36

That comment jarred for me too. If you've spent a lifetime not seeing facial cues you may not smile on demand in the 'right' way.

He hasn't spend a lifetime though, he was diagnosed in his twenties although his eyesight had been deteriorating v slowly since birth.

I'm not trying to imply that he doesn't have trouble with it but he has, at least, had experience of things that someone who was blind from birth hasn't.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2024 12:01

NK once apologised to me very politely on the tube for nudging me with the newspaper he was reading. He was wearing very fancy blue pointy shoes.

It's one of my "Ridiculously Small Claims to Fame".

Arconialiving · 29/09/2024 12:01

That makes sense @periodiclabel - I agree she's dull & I'm not a big fan of hers either!

However visual memory isn’t actually thay long, once a person has lost their sight to the degree Chris has the average person would have a visual memory of around seven years.

Good job we aren't all the same isn't it? I think Luba is wonderful and she is my favourite pro. She did amazingly to teach Nick that routine in 2 days and to change it to accommodate his injury. (She was also great last year with Adam)

CarmelaBrunella · 29/09/2024 12:14

Yes, I like Luba.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 29/09/2024 12:33

My teacher used to say we should smile, but if we didn't feel like smiling we should just remember to show our teeth!

At a competition, at a distance and moving quickly you can't tell if it's a real smile or not. Probably doesn't work quite so well with the close ups on Strictly though!

I may have misheard, but amid Shirley's comments on Tasha did she say that she [Shirley] had taken an interest in Tasha's dance career over the years?

If so that seemed rather barbed and indicating to the audience a ringer.

Apologies if I misheard.

No she was talking to Aljaz about his career in the juniors

Apologies for the Anton Juniors post, I see it was answered last night. My phone appears to have skipped the last couple of pages of comments.

I feel like I never see enough of Luba to make a decision either way on her, as she doesn't last long in the competition in any years I've watched her.

Does our resident statistician Sequins have a note of how far she's gone?

Lentilweaver · 29/09/2024 14:11

I like Luba in the group numbers but not as a coach.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 29/09/2024 14:13

Luba, bless her, has only had four partners so longest stretch was last year.
She was First Boot with James Cracknell.
She was Second Boot with Jason Bell.
Got half way through with Adam Thomas (6th to go but was booted on the Sacrificial Altar of Getting Ange Rippon to Blackpool)
I suspect Nick will go this week or the week after.
I still don't feel I "know" Luba or that her choreo is memorable but she did win a Children In Need special once with Shayne Lynch who was in our local greasy spoon earlier this year! Grin
