The BBC has acquired Apples Never Fall, a limited drama series based on Liane Moriarty’s (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, for BBC iPlayer and TV channels.

With a star cast led by Annette Bening and Sam Neill, the seven-part drama is adapted for screen by writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich and produced by Heyday Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

7 episodes. On weekly

Apples Never Fall centres on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family.

Former tennis coaches Stan and Joy have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives.

While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan's door, bringing the excitement they've been missing.

But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents' so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface.

it opens a floodgate of revelations as this perfect family is unveiled as being anything but.

As tensions between Stan and the four adult children mount, the investigation into Joy’s whereabouts fuels an addictive mystery.

The series stars Annette Bening (Nyad, American Beauty) and Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders, Jurassic Park) as Joy and Stan, with Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, How to be Single), Alison Brie (GLOW, Mad Men), Conor Merrigan-Turner (Thai Cave Rescue, Shattered) and Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders) as their four children.
Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition at the BBC says: “Suspenseful and sinister, Apples Never Fall is a compelling mystery drama that will keep BBC viewers intrigued until its riveting final episode.”

Is it finally over at TV pace? It seemed to go on for ever. I don't think it was Saturday night material at all.

westisbest1982 · 27/10/2024 13:28

Anyone still watching apart from the OP?

Piggywaspushed · 27/10/2024 13:44

I am. I must say I saw that coming re Savannah.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2024 15:04

butterpuffed · 28/10/2024 17:15

I'm watching ! But I mostly don't watch until the following day [this time was two as family came down ].

I didn't guess that Joy was ok and meeting with Savannah but then I never thought Stan had murdered her as they were trying too hard to make us think that .

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2024 17:16

Agree @butterpuffed I didn't think it was Stan

And turns out it wasn't

But

Looked like she was hit as bike on the road so was she in an accident then thought actually I'm not going home

I'm still watching but I was away for the weekend. What can I say? I still don't like any of the children and don't care about their stories. I've always been a fan of Sam Neill, but here he just seems to stare and then stare some more, I don't think his heart is really in it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2024 13:27

But @Ilovetea33 we will watch till the bitter end 😂

Last episode no 7 tonight

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 22:06

Oh. That was a good ending

So she fell off her bike and went home then left as dad walked out previously

Didn't see the twist of savannah being the tennis players sister and revenge

Tho she's run off so will there be a s2 to find her ?

The hurricane left a few branches on the tennis court. Hardly a lot to clear up

Maybe as a little stretched out and could prob be done in 3/4 episodes rather than 7

So

Who has read the book and think someone said the ending was different

What was the book plot /ending ?

It's over! Happy ending. But I was half expecting the last shot to be Savannah standing silently watching the house!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/11/2024 22:09

Wonder if will be a s2 of finding her

OP posts:
Ilovetea33 · 03/11/2024 10:14

If there is a s2, I'm not watching. At least Sam Neill was a little more animated and there was some suspense. But I still didn't care for the whole story involving the other tennis player. Let alone all the whiny children. And shouldn't somebody have recognised Savannah, since they used to frequent each other?
Basically just glad it's over.

martinisforeveryone · 03/11/2024 10:56

I'm with you @Ilovetea33 and I'm glad I broke ranks and binged it just to get it over with. Suspect the book was much better. Of everything I've been on an MN thread for, this is the programme that dragged like I've never known, would have been better condensed and shown over two consecutive nights, three at a stretch.

In a nutshell I didn't care about any of them, especially the siblings; found the whole storyline of taking in Savannah, totally unbelievable the way it was presented and really wasn't too bothered about the outcome. There were a couple of reasonable twists including dumping the trophies off the boat (ocean litterer) and Savannah being the sister, but despite the lead actors, I thought it was poor and won't be up for a second series.

butterpuffed · 03/11/2024 13:24

I've been waiting weeks for there to be a decent ending but no such luck . It was unbelievable that they'd all suddenly become a happy family once Joy was back , and gloss over all the problems .

Not hoping for a second series !

NCTDN · 03/11/2024 14:23

I read the book but can't actually remember the ending...

Just finished this and agree with many of the comments about the characters not being very likeable. However I really enjoyed it, and didn't see the twist coming. (Actually thought he'd murdered Savannah, or Joy had and he was covering for her)

Glad I gave up on The Teacher to watch this.....now on to Ludwig I think!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/11/2024 16:28

@Thunderpunt Ludwig is fab. Enjoy

I watched 1 and 2 then got bored so decided to just watch 7 to end it.

All a bit meh. But I do very much like the 2 leads (Annette and Sam). Could have been 4 parts and over.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/11/2024 21:23

Yea easily could have been shorter
