The BBC has acquired Apples Never Fall, a limited drama series based on Liane Moriarty’s (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, for BBC iPlayer and TV channels.

With a star cast led by Annette Bening and Sam Neill, the seven-part drama is adapted for screen by writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich and produced by Heyday Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

7 episodes. On weekly

Apples Never Fall centres on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family.

Former tennis coaches Stan and Joy have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives.

While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan's door, bringing the excitement they've been missing.

But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents' so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface.

it opens a floodgate of revelations as this perfect family is unveiled as being anything but.

As tensions between Stan and the four adult children mount, the investigation into Joy’s whereabouts fuels an addictive mystery.

The series stars Annette Bening (Nyad, American Beauty) and Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders, Jurassic Park) as Joy and Stan, with Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, How to be Single), Alison Brie (GLOW, Mad Men), Conor Merrigan-Turner (Thai Cave Rescue, Shattered) and Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders) as their four children.
Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition at the BBC says: “Suspenseful and sinister, Apples Never Fall is a compelling mystery drama that will keep BBC viewers intrigued until its riveting final episode.”

I'm up to the last episode so not going to say anything on here, but really enjoying the series.
It's slowly coming back to me from the book which I read years ago, but not enough to remember the outcome.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2024 21:28

I'm enjoying it. Not many seem to be watching tv

Or have all binged

Weirder and weirder

So Brooke and savannah had an affair

Joy isn't dead yet but assume she will be

Not sure if the blood on the bike was hers

I'm enjoying this, but are the children supposed to have different fathers? You have the good-looking dark haired brother and sister, and the very average fair ones.
They don't convince as a family unit at all.

PosiePetal · 06/10/2024 01:39

I thought the acting was laughably bad at times (including the 2 great actors Annette Bening & Sam Neil)). And the children were so completely different to one another that it seemed implausible they could be related at all BUT I was compelled to watch to the end. It was vibrant.

Piggywaspushed · 06/10/2024 06:52

I found the Amy episode a bit dull, to be honest. They're really stringing it out!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2024 14:51

Def seems life wasn't paradise in their marriage

Wonder if mum knew her friends savannah was shagging her daughter

butterpuffed · 06/10/2024 15:58

I thought Savannah hadn't been there very long until they showed Stan's 65th birthday get together and she'd done all the food . She definitely has a grudge as she wasn't too happy when her cake was trumped by another one !

They will keep flicking from the present to the past . At least in our dramas they normally put 'One year ago' or whatever . Still liking it though .

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2024 16:34

Think she's only been there 9/12mths

No it's just the casting

martinisforeveryone · 07/10/2024 11:29

@PosiePetal @JMSA I said the same about the siblings in my last post on 30 September. I also agree that the time frames were hard to follow and to be clear in your head about how long Savannah had been at the house through all the various parts of the action.

Ilovetea33 · 08/10/2024 16:51

I almost fell asleep again. I really don't find it riveting, but I'm going to see it through until the bitter end.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2024 18:05

@Ilovetea33 aren't you intrigued to find out where is she /alive or dead

OP posts:
Ilovetea33 · 08/10/2024 23:48

Yes I am intrigued, but the way to get there seems so tedious to me.

Milkandacookie · 10/10/2024 16:48

I’ve seen it all, but won’t reveal the ending. I really love how Annette Benning allows herself to look her age - it means her face can actually move! Loved her in Nyad.
I didn’t read book, but thought this was a great, and quirky, story.

Milkandacookie · 10/10/2024 18:43

Finished episode 3 now so posting. Maybe it's not the best acting but I'm absolutely intrigued!!!

Thanks for the summaries links too. I miss thing sometimes so it's good to read those!
