This looks right up my street

6 parts on Mon Tue wed for 2w

Channel 5 has announced that new mystery drama, The Wives, will start on Monday, September 16. Starring Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin as sisters-in-law Beth, Sylvia and Natasha,

the six-part series follows the tumultuous aftermath of their sister-in-law Annabelle Morgan's disappearance during a family vacation in Malta.

As the story unfolds, viewers will see the characters' lives thrown into turmoil as Annabelle vanishes, leaving her husband Charlie and daughter Sky (www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/sky) behind. With her phone discovered at a c
lifftop, authorities presume a fatal accident.

Fast-forwarding, the Morgans reconvene for a trip abroad, aiming to put the past behind them. Tensions surface when Charlie introduces his new, much younger girlfriend who bears an uncanny resemblance to the missing Annabelle

Doubt creeps in among the family members, leading Beth, Sylvia, and Natasha to question the nature of Annabelles disappearance and ponder if foul play was involved.

Resolving to uncover the truth, they embark on their own sleuthing mission.
In a gripping trailer for the show, confusion and suspicion mounts as Beth Morgan voices her disquiet: "Jade has showed up on the anniversary of Annabelle's death, wearing her clothes. It's just not normal! ", reports the Mirror (www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/channel-5-confirms-release-date-33631990)
.

Beth confesses to her family that she suspects Jade played a role in Annabelle's untimely end.

As they shadow Jade and Charlie across Malta, it becomes evident that secrets are being kept about the 'true' events of what transpired.

The Wives is a brand new six-part whodunnit style drama coming to Channel 5 in mid-September, with a star-studded cast including Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin.

The series follows the Morgan family as they try to move on one year after the disappearance of a family member (Annabelle). Jo, Tamzin and Angela play three sisters-in-laws Beth, Sylvia and Natasha, as they attempt to piece together the shock disappearance of their other sister-in-law, Annabelle, in Malta.

Sorry yes Frankie

But I got confused with the chips in the wardrobe that was in Sean's bedroom

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 27/09/2024 11:48

I found it quite unlikely that the police wouldn't have impounded all those casino chips, or at least had an investigation, for which there'd have been no answer, or a further investigation into Luca. But I guess that doesn't serve the storyline and it's not as though much of the rest of it's wholly credible anyway.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2024 12:12

Or even looked in the boot

lazymum99 · 27/09/2024 19:33

I also can’t see what you can do with stolen casino chips. A casino will know what value of chips you bought when you entered and will be aware of who is winning or losing. You can’t leave or enter with ‘old’ chips.
Although to be fair I don’t think I e ever been in a casino 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2024 19:48

I guess you could play in casino and swap discs for cash

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 27/09/2024 20:28

Some kind of participation in a money laundering scam?

I've never been in a casino either, but then the storyline doesn't seem all in on plausibilities.

NeelyOHara1 · 27/09/2024 20:42

I liked the actresses and their interplay with each other. Just wonder why there always seem to have to be a mystery/crime element, usually totally far fetched, attached 😐?

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2024 21:32

I love casinos and roulette

It seemed a weird plot

Luca who was hired to kill annabel by Frankie , but sleeps with slyvie and helps Natasha by giving her casino chips to look after for £10k

Only wives he didn't have a connection with was beth

It was a funny ending

Not really an ending

SydneyCarton · 30/09/2024 11:02

I get the feeling the writers think they've been terribly clever with the ending, but it was just rubbish!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2024 11:34

I still say s2

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2024 11:35

"Sky is definitely messaging her mum who is alive. Her real Dad will be Jo Joyners fella.

Annabelle is played by Christine Bottomley (Early Doors), why would they cast her if she wasn't going to act? 🤣"

Ahem. Just quoting myself to say I told you so 🤷🏽‍♀️

fitnessxo · 30/09/2024 14:36

Was that reallly the ending, I was so confused! I think they tried to make us hate Charlie so we think he deserved it but I don't get it

Sidebeforeself · 30/09/2024 14:38

I have just watched the whole thing. I really like Angela Griffin in this..thought she was very ‘normal” in her delivery . But yes the whole thing was silly but I did enjoy it. Definitely season 2 on its way

You see I actually liked Charlie, they wrote him well. He had an affair so what, he also knew Skye wasn't his so knew his wife had an affair too but still brought her up as his amd kept quiet about it all whilst taking the shit about his affair. That makes him a better person than St Annabelle in my book.

His wife didn't come across particularly nice or caring, and getting pregnant by your brother in law is hardly perfect wife or friend material.

Jade was dumped in it but seemed like she actually cared for Skye.

"Am I being unreasonable to think my husband should have told me his brother is dating a woman who appears identical to his dead wife and that she'd be turning up on our family holiday on the anniversary of her mysterious death?"

Tho @SydneyCarton did we ever see her as a red head

As a blonde looks nothing like her 😂

OP posts:
SydneyCarton · 30/09/2024 17:19

@Blondeshavemorefun I assume she was a redhead before the disappearance and dyed it blonde when she was keeping undercover.

The Radio Times had a review of the last episode saying Frankie tried to kill her so she wouldn’t reveal the truth about their affair and Sky’s parentage, but she’d had sixteen years to do that, so why the sudden worry?

Also puzzled as to why Annabelle didn’t just go to the police as soon as she’d escaped from Luca and tell them everything and get them to protect her and Sky 🤷‍♀️

martinisforeveryone · 30/09/2024 17:25

They drew a parallel at the start didn't they with Jade wearing the red dress same as Annabelle and then Annabelle wearing red at the end and getting pushed in the pool just the same 😂

Funny how they set Jade up to be a disliked gold digger and then unrolled her as possibly the most likeable and sympathetic character of the lot.

@SydneyCarton sometimes I read reviews or recaps and can't fathom how they make what they do of it.

I think there must be a lot more to it all about the brothers' business dealings.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/09/2024 19:01

Jade was lovely

I do love a recap as do miss stuff

This show reminds us of Big Little Lies, except it’s a budget version with a poor script and hammy acting.

autienotnaughty · 09/10/2024 08:39

Does anyone know who was in the van?

With Frankie not getting caught it did seem like it was setting things up for a second series.

Also why wasn't the other brother there but Sylvie was? Did I miss something?

autienotnaughty · 09/10/2024 08:39

Also did jade just leave after Charlie got arrested?
