This looks right up my street

6 parts on Mon Tue wed for 2w

Channel 5 has announced that new mystery drama, The Wives, will start on Monday, September 16. Starring Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin as sisters-in-law Beth, Sylvia and Natasha,

the six-part series follows the tumultuous aftermath of their sister-in-law Annabelle Morgan's disappearance during a family vacation in Malta.

As the story unfolds, viewers will see the characters' lives thrown into turmoil as Annabelle vanishes, leaving her husband Charlie and daughter Sky (www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/sky) behind. With her phone discovered at a c
lifftop, authorities presume a fatal accident.

Fast-forwarding, the Morgans reconvene for a trip abroad, aiming to put the past behind them. Tensions surface when Charlie introduces his new, much younger girlfriend who bears an uncanny resemblance to the missing Annabelle

Doubt creeps in among the family members, leading Beth, Sylvia, and Natasha to question the nature of Annabelles disappearance and ponder if foul play was involved.

Resolving to uncover the truth, they embark on their own sleuthing mission.
In a gripping trailer for the show, confusion and suspicion mounts as Beth Morgan voices her disquiet: "Jade has showed up on the anniversary of Annabelle's death, wearing her clothes. It's just not normal! ", reports the Mirror (www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/channel-5-confirms-release-date-33631990)
.

Beth confesses to her family that she suspects Jade played a role in Annabelle's untimely end.

As they shadow Jade and Charlie across Malta, it becomes evident that secrets are being kept about the 'true' events of what transpired.

The Wives is a brand new six-part whodunnit style drama coming to Channel 5 in mid-September, with a star-studded cast including Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin.

The series follows the Morgan family as they try to move on one year after the disappearance of a family member (Annabelle). Jo, Tamzin and Angela play three sisters-in-laws Beth, Sylvia and Natasha, as they attempt to piece together the shock disappearance of their other sister-in-law, Annabelle, in Malta.

So was it Frankie that has Luca's brother hostage? But why if they believed Annabelle to be dead? Unless Frankie knew Annabelle was alive?!
So none the wiser after six episodes apart from Annabelle being alive 🤦🏽‍♀️

I can see a second series is being teed up but I don't think there is a second series in it.

hattie43 · 25/09/2024 23:05

Well that was disappointing, so many loose ends.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 23:11

I don't think there was a brother held ransom

Luca seemed happy to meet Frankie

Who gave him back the chips (but not all of them)

And said finish the job I told you to last year

Seems suss that Luca shagged slyvia - wife of one brother - and gave the chips to the wife of the other brother - knowing the husband of the third sister in law /wives was the person who paid him

Well that was six hours of my life I’ll never get back. And the “port” was a touristy fishing village. Please don’t let me get drawn into another series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 22:09

Omg. Just googled Annabelle and it's the long lost daughter from sherwood

Daphne's daughter

I know Christine Bottomle from in the club and was the midwife

Having Christine Bottomley in the cast as Annabelle made me work out she was still alive right from the start. Unless there were going to be extensive flashback sections. Which there weren't, so they wouldn't waste Christine Bottomley by casting her to be a corpse!

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 26/09/2024 06:54

Very true!

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 08:52

Oh. That's a good point @rainfallpurevividcat

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 08:55

4th brother Tom didn't get an act he's nabe dud he ?

Tho seen briefly coming out of gym back door on cctv

I thought the actress playing Annabelle was miscast, she didn't look much older than Jade.

They ruined the ending with her setting up Charlie, and what mother would do that to their own child! And they all accepted her story without question and Beth seemed to not have a problem with her shagging her husband. Glad she pushed Annabelle in the pool in the end, I wanted Skye to slap her and give her a few home truths.

Where did Jade go when they were all playing happy families with Annabelle at the end?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 14:59

We will find out in s2

Thing is, Series 1 was so slow and plodding I'm not really sure it has any legs for a follow up.

If they wanted to develop further they should have limited this first series to 3 or 4 episodes maximum and actually produced something better than this.

I was irritated with the slowness of it all. Then am further irritated that they didn't tie it all up and close with explanations of various things that didn't make sense.

I just don't think it was strong enough or worthy of a second series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 15:48

I didn't think it was slow

It kept me gripped

I found it slow too and it required me to suspend too much disbelief.

martinisforeveryone · 26/09/2024 16:32

I found it slow, it had plot holes and poor dialogue, some of the acting was poor and I still watched it all and will probably watch the next one as well 😁

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 17:16

We all love a ch 5 drama

We moan about it but still watch 😂😂

@rainfallpurevividcat

I said this to DD right at the start when we fleetingly saw a photo of Annabel. They wouldn't waste a good actress on a photo, so I knew she'd be alive!

Yup, they are glitzy but a bit weak. I'm impressed that they have some well known actors though. It's easy watching, no brain power needed at the end of a long day 😊

butterpuffed · 26/09/2024 19:42

Lots of loose ends but hey it's Channel 5 .

There were well known actors but they weren't acting convincingly unless it was just the way the story had been written .

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 20:59

Well if they did the teacher s2

Sure will be wives 2

Lots of little loose ended

It can't end with all thinking chattier dod it but actually was sean

Where did Tom go that night

Did sean gamble the money away and want to kill annabelle to get her money

Blames Charlie to get the company

Did he want to kill annabelle due to sky being his daughter and not tell his wife

Why choose Luca to kill her - what hold did he have over him

Where did annabelle get the money to pay Luca double what his other offer was

Ans Jade - she seemed really nice

Charlie seems to like her

Yes he was unfaithful but he obv decided money wasn't enough and assume was going to divorce her

Another reason why sean was going to kill her to get the money /business where if annabelle did divorce him there would be no money and business wouid fail

Frozenberries · 26/09/2024 21:59

I thought that was shite. I def cba with a series 2 if they do one. Massive let down last episode

Nonono11 · 26/09/2024 22:12

Maybe Jade in the van ?

Inslopia · 26/09/2024 22:51

That was a disappointing end, who was in the van hiding?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/09/2024 22:53

We will never know who is on the van

I'm guessing

Annabel
Sean wife
Police

You don't mean Sean do you blondes?

It was Beth's husband wasn't it? Frankie?

Although confused as to why some gambling chips were in Sean's wardrobe.

lazymum99 · 27/09/2024 09:25

Totally confused by the ending. The gambling chips were in the box in the cupboard so what was in Frankie’s bag. And who the hell was in the van. The police? Jade?
