This looks right up my street

6 parts on Mon Tue wed for 2w

Channel 5 has announced that new mystery drama, The Wives, will start on Monday, September 16. Starring Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin as sisters-in-law Beth, Sylvia and Natasha,

the six-part series follows the tumultuous aftermath of their sister-in-law Annabelle Morgan's disappearance during a family vacation in Malta.

As the story unfolds, viewers will see the characters' lives thrown into turmoil as Annabelle vanishes, leaving her husband Charlie and daughter Sky (www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/sky) behind. With her phone discovered at a c
lifftop, authorities presume a fatal accident.

Fast-forwarding, the Morgans reconvene for a trip abroad, aiming to put the past behind them. Tensions surface when Charlie introduces his new, much younger girlfriend who bears an uncanny resemblance to the missing Annabelle

Doubt creeps in among the family members, leading Beth, Sylvia, and Natasha to question the nature of Annabelles disappearance and ponder if foul play was involved.

Resolving to uncover the truth, they embark on their own sleuthing mission.
In a gripping trailer for the show, confusion and suspicion mounts as Beth Morgan voices her disquiet: "Jade has showed up on the anniversary of Annabelle's death, wearing her clothes. It's just not normal! ", reports the Mirror (www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/channel-5-confirms-release-date-33631990)
.

Beth confesses to her family that she suspects Jade played a role in Annabelle's untimely end.

As they shadow Jade and Charlie across Malta, it becomes evident that secrets are being kept about the 'true' events of what transpired.

The Wives is a brand new six-part whodunnit style drama coming to Channel 5 in mid-September, with a star-studded cast including Jo Joyner, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Angela Griffin.

The series follows the Morgan family as they try to move on one year after the disappearance of a family member (Annabelle). Jo, Tamzin and Angela play three sisters-in-laws Beth, Sylvia and Natasha, as they attempt to piece together the shock disappearance of their other sister-in-law, Annabelle, in Malta.

Are we going to find out what's the deal with the embassy guy who Charlie got the death certificate from and who locked them in the cellar? Is he the one holding Luca's brother hostage?

I'm also not really clear what the point of Tom is - why have a brother who we never see whose ex-wife is still hanging around?

I guess the missing money was Annabelle's running-away-fund and she was pressuring Sean and Tasha to pay her back because she needed it to set up a new life. What a bitch though to let her teenage daughter think she was dead?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 14:11

Yes what mum does that

Charlie obv loves sky

Equally he was shagging Jade

Maybe Charlie is the baddie as sounds like it's Annabelle's money

All will be revealed later tonight. I do hope it's not a massive disappointment.
They really could have had this done and dusted in 3 episodes.

martinisforeveryone · 25/09/2024 14:28

We've never seen Tom at all have we, not so far anyway, unless it turns out tonight that Annabelle ran off with him on the quiet. I suppose the point is that it's called The Wives and not The Brothers.

Absolutely awful to let her daughter believe she's dead. What's the justification going to be?

One thing that I thought about this morning is that I did learn the characters' names, but then still found myself thinking JJ's character, Angela's character and TO's character. That's telling for a drama.

BIossomtoes · 25/09/2024 16:24

I’m still watching, despite it being incredibly weak. As someone who knows Malta well I’m highly amused by the rather odd continuity - we get overhead shots of a car travelling to one city and in the next scene they’re at a cafe table or in a shop in the capital about six miles away. It’s a three hour drama crammed into six hour long episodes.

Yeah, only Annabelle gets her character name!

It drives me mad how JJ says it for some reason.

From the outside shots of the surrounding countryside, I think it’s this one. I don’t know whether the interiors were shot there or somewhere else.

From the Times Malta

'The six-part thriller, which is being broadcast on the UK's Channel 5, was filmed across 10 weeks last winter.
Scenes were shot on various locations including Golden Bay and the Radisson Blu Resort and Spa that overlooks the beach, while the trailor shows aerial scenes of Valletta and Mellieħa.
International producers can apply for a cash rebate of up to 40%, with TV productions looked upon more favourably if they feature Malta.'

It was filmed in February and obviously the swimming pool and sea were freezing cold.

BIossomtoes · 25/09/2024 18:53

I was right!

Piggywaspushed · 25/09/2024 19:01

I didn't think Malta had sandy beaches so I quite like the look of that resort.

bookwormcrazy · 25/09/2024 19:03

I don't trust Sean. He's too "involved" and in between everyone. I think he's a bit suspect and something he has done is wrong.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 25/09/2024 19:08

Very intriguing
finally

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 20:35

It does look a nice resort

BIossomtoes · 25/09/2024 20:45

It is nice. It’s a bit off the beaten track for my taste but it would be lovely for a family with children or someone who just wants to chill out in the sun and not do much.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 20:48

Guessing if feb pool wouid be heated

Tasha's hubby. Who seems to be in the middle of everything.

SydneyCarton · 25/09/2024 21:31

God, what a prick Frankie has turned out to be. Sean’s looking like the best husband of the lot, which isn’t saying much.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 21:31

Tho he seemed stunned to see Annabelle bit maybe as thought she was dead
