It is going through South America.

"The four new famous faces embarking on an epic 12,500 km race of a lifetime are:
Broadcaster Jeff Brazier and his son, Freddy
Actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin, Mary Ellen
Broadcaster Kelly Brook and her husband, Jeremy
Radio 2 host Scott Mills and his husband (then fiancé), Sam"

"Their journey begins in Belém, Northern Brazil - the gateway to the Amazon - and will pass through five checkpoints across the length of South America, to reach the finish line in the Andes, Frutillar in Southern Chile."

Scott has a touch of diva about him. His fiancee seems really lovely.

I was just saying the same to DH. I can't warm to either of them. I'd expected a radio presenter to be entertaining but there's no charisma either.

murasaki · 21/08/2024 23:11

I thought it was funny at the back packers place when they wree swapping names, amd he said 'Scott, Scott Mills', like he was a) James Bond and b)expected a bunch of 20 something foreigners to know who he was.

Yes. Like he was expecting them to say ‘what, the Scott Mills?’
I would have thought that if you are famous going to somewhere where you aren’t recognised would be quite welcome. But then I wouldn’t know him if he stood up in my soup.

Freddy also seems to have picked up some of the lingo and isn't afraid to approach people to ask for info or help. He seems like a nice lad.

Yes, I speak Brazilian Portuguese and I noticed that he was doing notably better with the language than any of the others, even Jeremy, who should have a head start being a French and Italian native speaker. (Though Jeremy is just making the mistake of using his similar-ish languages and hoping the locals get the drift).

The alpaca was called Freddie, but a Brazilian will pronounce it Fredjee. By the end Freddie was calling himself Fredjee too 😀.

Using the Mormons to change money was absolutely hilarious. Though when they said “we have a friend..” I was really disappointed that they didn’t say “…Jesus!”

Tuyouyou · 21/08/2024 23:46

Last week's edit seemed to go after Kelly, tonight's was Scott.
Is it ok to ask a Mormon for help? Yes?

I personally didn't feel comfortable with them making it seem like a life or death situation.
Scott is a bit of a diva, I think he would admit that himself. It could all be act.
The dad comment was a bit harsh.
Is it possible he expected to be recognised because of Eurovision? lol

murasaki · 21/08/2024 23:50

I'm liking Freddie a lot. And Kelly's ability to just get stuck in with working. But she does need Jeremy to keep her on track.

Doingmybest12 · 22/08/2024 00:15

I hope Jeff relaxes, he seems to be on it and hyper aware all the time sounding like a professional working with a young person , bit intense . The only person I'm not warming to is Scott at the moment. Looking forward to next week.

My parents went to Ecuador many years ago and US dollars were preferred there. They're not going that far north in this though so it was interesting to see currency already playing a role. I don't know how the other counties they'll be in will be with that.

I don't think they targeted the Mormons rather than just found someone who could speak English, but also who would be most likely to have an American friend nearby to help out of anyone there? Genius idea in that way. And they were easily recognisable without you worrying you were about to get mugged.

I loved when Kola and Mary got the taxi for the same price as the bus. And also when he was recognised. Tbh thanks to Ted Lasso he's probably the one most likely to get recognised outside of the UK.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/08/2024 04:10

it is surprising that us dollars werent accepted.
scott is the oldest at 50 and he was annoying looking for a hotel, although he changed his mind.
freddie and his dad i found irritating.
i liked kola and kelly and their partners

hopeishere · 22/08/2024 07:04

Liked them all last night. I think the responsibility of being a single dad so young, to kids who lost their mum very publicly has taken a toll on Jeff.

I thought that. He doesn’t sound like a man with his son, more like a case worker. He’s doing a great job though and it’s clear he’s making the most of this chance to be with Freddie.

ClaudineMallory · 22/08/2024 07:35

I agree with you both about Jeff. His sons were very small when their Mum died and she was so famous - he was right to protect them.

ClaudineMallory · 22/08/2024 07:35

The scenery was amazing in this episode.

Kennykangaroo · 22/08/2024 07:59

I really like Kelly and have always found Jeff very 'performative'.
However, Brazil looks amazing!

Peccary · 22/08/2024 08:01

$US is the legal currency in Ecuador and de facto currency in Argentina for a lot of things. We found it hit and miss in other SA countries

Freddie has adhd, this could be why Jeff is being viewed in a case worker style. I'm around sen alot and I find all parents have that style at times, some sen need that way of communication.

Haggisfish3 · 22/08/2024 11:28

I enjoyed last nights episode. Scott is famously quite diva like. I think it’s hilarious that he didnt want to do overnight travel but insisting on a hotel. That bus toilet was so grim. 🤣🤣

SoupDragon · 22/08/2024 11:31

To be fair, I think that toilet vindicated his original decision!

It’s no slight on Jeff. He seems to be picking his words and phrases carefully which comes across as stilted. But he is doing amazingly well.

Brazil is a massive economy and very self-sufficient in many ways, it’s not parasitic on the US like some smaller Lat Am countries. I think a lot of Brazilians would be quite bemused/offended that someone would think they’d just accept foreign money.

The currency is the Real (Hay-al) which pluralises to Reais (Hay-eyes). Not one of the contestants has said it correctly at any point yet in the show!

Menstum · 22/08/2024 19:00

Who is Kola?

ClaudineMallory · 22/08/2024 19:05

He's an actor from Ted Lasso (no, me neither).

Menstum · 22/08/2024 19:13

Ta. Not something g I've watched.
