Couldn't see a new thread (please delete if there is one!)
So, currently broadcast (and just caught up with) Friday 2nd August. Recap:

Lauren - given birth to baby boy at 24 weeks after Joel hid labour inducing drugs in her soup
Jack - been charged with arson with intent to endanger life (Hope seemed pleased!)
Paul - going to donate his corneas to MND research, much to Bernie's dismay
Beth - lost box of fake t-shirts and told Carla where to stuff her job

What else?

I love Todd. He needs a story with David. They are hilarious.
Billy needs a long holiday and a demanding congregation.

Yes can Billy relocate to a new parish, he adds nothing

Viviennemary · 11/09/2024 11:38

I don't mind Billy too much I really liked Paul. Can't stand Summer. One of the worst characters ever.

Shellingbynight · 11/09/2024 11:41

It's great that Bernie has had some decent scenes which don't involve stealing or shouting. I still don't 'get' her being with Dev though, they aren't each other's type.

From the moment the MND storyline began it seemed to me we were waiting for Paul to die so Todd and Billy could get together again. Todd was for some reason really obsessed with Billy, I just hope he has got over it. He needs someone with a bit of a spark with not dreary Billy.

(Yes wouldn't it be great if Billy stopped lurking around and actually did some parish work.)

Peter Ash just won Serial Drama Performance at the NTAs

Shellingbynight · 11/09/2024 21:14

Well deserved 👏

Deadringer · 13/09/2024 10:44

I am delighted he won, he did a great job.

Wishimaywishimight · 13/09/2024 20:16

Billy is a deeply unconvincing cryer. Why can't actors squeeze out some tears to make the sobbing a bit more realistic??

I'm liking Summer a bit more than usual. Her understated sadness is more convincing than the sobbing.

nildesparandum · 13/09/2024 20:54

I think the Corrie writers should contact the officials in the Anglican church to put them right about the duties of an Archdeacon.
If Billy is supposed o be one it must be a very enviable job.All he does is swan around Coronation Street with his boyfriends and go in and out of the Rovers.Come to think of it he does not do much vicaring either.
As another poster said, if he leaves he can take that miserable Summer with him as well.

Cural · 13/09/2024 21:02

I think Billy gave up his 'job' for the time being. All vicaring put on hold.

JewelleryCat · 13/09/2024 21:03

Why isn’t anyone comforting Bernie as well, only Billy

eggandonion · 13/09/2024 21:21

Billy's congregation needs him back. Or he can move somewhere rural far away.
Poor Bernie.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 13/09/2024 21:27

Billy doesn't have "a congregation". However, an archdeacon would be much busier than he ever is.

I agree that Bernie needs support to. But then again, it's showing how strong she is, supporting everyone else. She'll break down at some point I suspect.

eggandonion · 13/09/2024 21:37

Does an archdeacon have vicars under him?
Our rector is a mere canon but she seems pretty busy. And is great for a gossip.

He never really did much for his congregation though

JemimaTab · 13/09/2024 22:25

I'm not even sure Billy goes to church.

thenightsky · 13/09/2024 22:47

Billy was vile to poor Bernie Angry

MollsDolls · 14/09/2024 00:37

What de fook is up with David's hair?

hattimehead · 14/09/2024 06:38

You’d have thought Paul would have mentioned his funeral wishes before he died to stop Billy and Bernie bickering over it.

familyissues12345 · 14/09/2024 07:38

Yeah I was surprised he hadn't planned it - music, chosen the coffin etc

PrincessScarlett · 14/09/2024 08:13

All that screeching and wailing from Billy was bordering on pantomime. The rest were excellent. Thank goodness Billy wasn't at Paul's bedside when he died as he would have ruined it.

DerekFaker · 14/09/2024 08:35

The writers didn't need to create all this tension and drama. Paul's death was enough by itself

Shellingbynight · 14/09/2024 09:00

As suspected, it’s all about Billy. The shot of Bernie at the end, sitting excluded from the group hug, said it all.

I thought both Summer and Gemma did a good job. Gemma was unrecognisable - in a good way! - without all the makeup and hairdo’s.

The one thing I do like is David’s scenes with Billy. Well, David’s scenes with anyone. And Todd had some decent input at last.

I was thinking last night that David is exactly what you would expect having seen him arrive on the Street as a kid. But Chesney is unrecognisable in every way. In Classic he is about 8 or 9 and a lively little scam artist, a world away from today’s stolid tedious bloke.

Paul would surely have arranged a funeral which Bernie and Billy could both agree on. But of course it creates more drama this way, as if his death is not enough drama anyway.

At least we had no Joel.

PiggieWig · 14/09/2024 09:09

I thought Gemma was really good last night. She really played her role beautifully. My heart broke a little bit when she was signing to the quads about Uncle Paul being the sun and the puddles.
As for poor Bernie 😭

PrincessScarlett · 14/09/2024 09:30

Gemma looked unrecognisable at the NTAs, in a good way, as well. And it shows off her acting much better when she's not putting on that drawn out chavvy drawl, yes the scene with her telling the kids was really lovely.

Shellingbynight · 14/09/2024 10:02

@PrincessScarlett I just had a look, Dolly Rose looks lovely! So does Harriet Bibby (Summer).

The usual makeup makes Gemma look so awful (and the hair, and clothes).
