Couldn't see a new thread (please delete if there is one!)
So, currently broadcast (and just caught up with) Friday 2nd August. Recap:

Lauren - given birth to baby boy at 24 weeks after Joel hid labour inducing drugs in her soup
Jack - been charged with arson with intent to endanger life (Hope seemed pleased!)
Paul - going to donate his corneas to MND research, much to Bernie's dismay
Beth - lost box of fake t-shirts and told Carla where to stuff her job

What else?

It was just non stop crime and misery last night, and so badly storylined. Is DeeDee supposed to be a total idiot now? I thought she had wised up, but now she is doing things which will clearly antagonise Joel, and seems to be meeting him every 20 minutes. Her visiting his former company was ridiculous but clearly the phone is going to provide information.

One of the worst things about this dreadful plot is that it is so divorced from the Street itself. Most scenes are in the police station, the solicitor's office, the hospital or DeeDee's flat. Joel has never properly mixed with the Street inhabitants and it makes it feel so UN-Corrie. Past villains like Hillman and Charlie Stubbs were fully embedded in the Street, having relationships with longterm characters, drinking in the Rovers - everyone knew them. I bet half the Street has never even glimpsed Joel.

I used to love DeeDee but at the moment I would be happy to never see her again.

On a more positive note - twas a lovely scene when the quads had their first day at school photo with Paul...then Bernie getting it framed for him. He was needing something to cheer him up. Do the quads even speak? For a big family, they're always so quiet!
Are Kit and Ryan going to strike up some kind of bromance?

Swain and Lauren's hair both annoy me with their late 90's strands hanging down.

Abbie’s was the same too tonight! And not an ounce of evidence that she’s a mechanic. My husband is a mechanic and is constantly covered in a layer of oil, with permanently black nails.

Roryno · 03/09/2024 13:46

The plot with Kevin and Abi was identical to the Joel plot. Two witnesses turning up that might be helpful. And Kit is nearly as bad as Stephen was for appearing at the right time (and Joel does!).

No one has mentioned Adams hair !!!

Radish12 · 03/09/2024 17:36

I was upset about Adam's haircut 😭

Radish12 · 03/09/2024 17:38

I thought Paul asking to look out the window was a bit conspicuous, I wonder if he's going to witness something nefarious in the street below, Rear Window-style, and struggle to articulate it?

I follow Daran Little on Twitter and someone mentioned Adam's haircut last night. He replied

Another one who can’t stand Betsy.

And DeeDee is starting to get on my wick too.
She’s in every other scene.

thenightsky · 03/09/2024 19:14

I can't even remember if I watched it last night or not.

MollsDolls · 03/09/2024 22:27

Oh Christ on a bike.....am so over this Joel and the Institute story line.

Getupat8amnow · 04/09/2024 20:36

Modern Coronation Street is so far removed from what it should be. The over reliance on crime in all its forms and ‘issues’ has ruined the entire programme. As said previously it should be character led not issue led.

Do I care about Lauren? No I don’t, she wasn’t embedded in the street prior to going missing and then left Roy to rot in jail. Groups of characters are isolated, it should be a community. Where is Rita commenting on Amy being scammed? Why aren’t the factory workers gossiping in the pub about Leanne?

Characters the audience care about and a tight community are the basic ingredients of a success soap/continuing drama programme, sadly Coronation Street has lost its way so much it will be hard to get it back.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 04/09/2024 20:58

Peter Ash is acting so well. Must be incredibly difficult to keep that consistency. What a cruel, awful illness.

Spidey66 · 04/09/2024 21:01

What is it with Toyah? This the second guy she's had a relationship with that has also been with her sister!!!

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 04/09/2024 21:22

I also dislike Betsy. Poor actress and annoying character.

Also, I really wish they'd let Paul go now. I know this is a cruel and nasty illness, but he needs to go now IMO.

Also, I wish someone would rub out Joel. Sick of him now, and how he keeps getting away with things. ARGH! They kept doing this with Phelan, and bloody Stephen - Gail's brother. Went on and on and on. Just get him gone already!

That’s just normal on Coronation st, surely - not exclusive to Toyah. Half the street has slept with each other!

Kit is a real dodgy character. (Sarah ought to be all over him!)

Lulubellamozarella · 04/09/2024 21:30

Exactly, does anyone remember when Carla was with Nick?

Dee Dee has far too much screen time. You can get very tired of seeing the same face constantly.

My DS2 was a car mechanic. He spent nearly every day working alone in a busy garage. His overalls were always covered in grease, no tying them round his waist like Tyrone does (defeats the object of a boiler suit, why bother wearing one like that). Also no long meal breaks in the pub then working on cars!
And Abbie with her clean manicured hands well the mind boggles.

Lulubellamozarella · 04/09/2024 21:30

Yes! I thought they made a good couple.

Clawdy · 05/09/2024 08:04

Betsy is an irritating character, but I do think she is played by a very good young actress.

Shellingbynight · 05/09/2024 08:27

I didn't watch last night.

@HeySummerWhereAreYou yes re Phelan. Horrible character with shabby storylines and he refused to die. It went on forever. Corrie haven't had a decent villain in a long time but the Joel storyline is the worst.

I did think Sarah would get with Kit although they would look odd on screen as he must be a foot and a half taller than her!

Yes, I have to admit Dee Dee been on the screen far too much for AGES now. Most of this year probably. And how come she has naff all to do with Paul now? For some odd reason they were best buddies for about 6 months, before Paul got his official diagnoses! Now nothing! She has seen him once in about half a year!

Her role has been a little bit more interesting this last few weeks, but for the most part I have found her a bit boring and annoying - always with the same slightly annoyed/slightly confused and irritated look on her face.. I do enjoy seeing all her wonderful outfits though and she looks fabulous. She must have got a lot of confidence with dropping the 4 stone or so that she's lost. She's got a lovely figure.

I can't stand the Bailey Dad's voice. It really pisses me off. And as for Michael, he's irritating. I couldn't stand the mother either - she was such a nosy Parker. I did like the young son who was a footballer, but he seems to have vanished from it. And what happened to Michael's daughter? Glory was it? Where is she?!

Oh my god yes! What happened to her and Paul being best buddies when they shared the flat together? After all he is going through and she is barely with him at all. Doesn't go to see him or spend time with him or anything. Its just weird. Do the writers think we have forgotten all that 🙄
