Couldn't see a new thread (please delete if there is one!)
So, currently broadcast (and just caught up with) Friday 2nd August. Recap:

Lauren - given birth to baby boy at 24 weeks after Joel hid labour inducing drugs in her soup
Jack - been charged with arson with intent to endanger life (Hope seemed pleased!)
Paul - going to donate his corneas to MND research, much to Bernie's dismay
Beth - lost box of fake t-shirts and told Carla where to stuff her job

What else?

I thought that too.
And this is most lax NICU in the history of the NHS. Toilets close to the baby room, nobody cleans their hands. Hands on their faces, mouths, noses and then clutching the incubator. I’m stress eating watching this.

But DeeDee and Lauren actors are great.

Edited

I thought that too. Very unrealistic

Shellingbynight · 19/08/2024 21:06

That was a good episode - great scene with DeeDee and Lauren. Nice to see Lauren acting with someone other than the dire Joel. And also nice to see DeeDee actually acting like DeeDee rather than a daft Bridezilla. I hope this is not going to be drawn out any longer.

I think Tracy will be back with Steve within weeks. He has finally shaved off his beard in her honour! Possibly the storyline with Cassie on the verge of conning Ken out of his cash has been set up so Tracy can uncover it and be welcomed back into the fold.

It's hard to know what Kit is up to. Any copper worth his salt would not give that story from Joel the time of day.

bizzey · 19/08/2024 21:12

At least Betsy 's story is out there and on record as well.

How can he carry on the story that 2 teenage girls were backing him in a corner with extortion !

JewelleryCat · 19/08/2024 21:12

Kit set up Nathan so whilst I think usually he wouldn’t give Joel the time of day, he’ll have too to stop getting found out himself

Cural · 19/08/2024 21:17

I'd have believed Lauren, great acting.

All that teeth sucking from shifty Joel!

Shellingbynight · 19/08/2024 21:24

I was thinking about Kit setting up Nathan. But with the weight of evidence against Joel I am not sure Kit has got a lot on his side. I assume Joel will do something reckless to seal his fate. I hope he dies, dreadful character and I don't want the possibility of him returning!

Roryno · 19/08/2024 20:38

Argh! How come Joel can hear what’s being said through the door when DeeDee couldn’t!!

Edited

I think there was an extra door between them wasn't there?

Fab episode, finally was able to watch some great acting!

bizzey · 19/08/2024 21:31

AHH...I had forgotten about the Kit and Nathan connection .

bizzey · 19/08/2024 21:32

I am definitely going to have to make an effort to watch live with you all this week ! 🤣

MichaelAndEagle · 19/08/2024 21:34

Yep its in Kit's interest to support Joel's version of events.

bizzey · 19/08/2024 21:35

Ohhh ..that's a good twist !

bizzey · 19/08/2024 21:48

Surely the fact that Joel was shouting off about abortion pills will make him look guilty.

How would he even know about them ?
A prem labor at 24 weeks can happen...
Abortion pills is not the first thing that comes to mind !

PrincessScarlett · 19/08/2024 22:39

Joel called Kit 'mate' in the police station. I wonder if him and Kit are actually mates and he deliberately asked to speak to him for help?

When Sarah/Bethany find out Nathan is innocent this time I wonder if they come forward to grass Kit up as Bethany may think it's some grooming gang that needs exposing.

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2024 23:59

I’m glad they didn’t drag it on. All I can think of when I see Kit is Christopher Ecclestone I think we will see a lot more of him in other shows.

Is Betsey’s story definitely on record? She interviewed him alone with no colleagues… which she probably shouldn’t have done (I think Joel mentioned that?) so Joel might have some weight against that.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 20/08/2024 11:09

Joel screaming in his car was a highlight !

Shellingbynight · 20/08/2024 12:01

@Illjusthavethebreadsticks yes - pure ham 😆

Of course we still have Hope and the necklace as the final proof. I was hopeful this was drawing to a close in a rush, but they may want to torture Lauren a bit longer.

Hope seems too busy stropping about Dorin at the moment to think about necklaces. Dorin is adorable, he needs to stay!

JellyBeanFactory · 20/08/2024 12:06

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 20/08/2024 11:09

Joel screaming in his car was a highlight !

Continuity was a bit off though (I think):

DeeDee & Joel were having hotpot in The Rovers, she dropped a few hints that she was suspicious, he left the pub and did his wailing scream in the car. DeeDee then appeared from round the corner by Dev's shop, and seemed to watch him scream, as if she'd come from her flat but surely she had come The Rovers the other end of the street?

🤷‍♀️

Not that it matters, I enjoyed the episode and thought actress Lauren was excellent.

I didn't expect him to be found out yet but glad he has been

familyissues12345 · 20/08/2024 14:19

@JellyBeanFactory , I thought that, but then I wonder if she'd walked the long way round (down the Ginnell) so that he didn't see her following him?

I did love Joels screaming though Grin

Also loving Hopes stropiness, she seems to have aged about 5 years the last couple of weeks - "come on Mother!"

BingoNight · 21/08/2024 08:34

That was a gripping episode!
I was holding myself tight with clenched teeth as Dee-dee and Lauren were realising how evil Joel is, and him listening outside the door😬
Dee-dee and Lauren are fab actors.

Nick and Toyah are great together, oh Leanne, upgrade to level 8 yay!😔

I think it needed Tracey to come back, I like her now she's older and seems vulnerable, better than Cassie who I thought was fun until she broke Steve's mug and annoys me with her 'Kenny'. What's her back story please? Only started re-watching a month ago after a 4 year break!

Am I the only one who likes Chesney and Gemma's acting? And their house?😄

Shellingbynight · 21/08/2024 08:42

You may well be the only Chesney and Gemma fan!

This is Cassie's back story, it's a load of rubbish tbh! Not sure if you have seen Evelyn - Maureen Lipman - yet? Evelyn is Tyrone's nan.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/08/2024 11:34

Granted I wouldn’t wanna locked in a lift with her but for themselves I quite like Gemma and Chesney.
I think they’re a nice couple just doing their best and bringing their children up beautifully.

BingoNight · 21/08/2024 13:32

Thanks for the info Shellingbynight
I thought Evelyn was Fizz's mum!

Not sure about Maureen Lipman tbh, I'm trying to like her but slightly confused by her character? Straight talking, harsh but fair older woman? Or funny? Perhaps it's the script-writing I don't find her very interesting🤷‍♀️

And sorry to have a moan but some of the lines Mary and especially Kirky come out with are so cringey!
Always liked Steve, was worried they'd made him too jokey but he was kind to Tracey last night asking her what was wrong.
Good storyline with a carer who some of the family don't like much but the elderly person does. I knew an elderly man who's carer, younger than him by 20 yrs or so, got very friendly with him, cuddles in bed etc He was going to marry her and his son was furious. I'm open minded but when I met her she seemed a bit off. What could you do? It's their money and they can spend it on who they like but if they're being conned?

Shellingbynight · 21/08/2024 14:08

Yes Evelyn is watered down version of Blanche. I've grown to like her.

Steve was a manbaby for a while so you started watching at the right time, he seems to have pulled himself together a bit.

Cassie is a wrong 'un, then again so was Abi.
