Couldn't think of a witty title. Bit gutted re; Grace and Reuben.

OP posts:
YabaJaba · 30/07/2024 06:55

Didn't bother watching the final it drags on too long. Just seen M and J won as I thought they would. This year it was always going to be one of the black couples.

Theceilingfanissonice · 29/07/2024 22:05

8 weeks! I remember when it used to be 13 weeks and everyone shouting for more

It's always been around 8 weeks I think.

Cocopogo · 30/07/2024 08:18

Wish it was Ayo and Jess, Jess was the funniest one in there.

CellophaneFlower · 30/07/2024 08:23

I would have preferred Ayo and Jess too or Ciaran and Nicole. I think both couples are more genuine. I'm not sure Mimii is into Josh that much tbh and not sure they'll last that long.

Can't believe the prize fund is still 50k after all these years.

MargoLivebetter · 30/07/2024 08:30

LOL, well there was a turn up for the books! I was sure Ciaran and Nicole would win. I think they were too!!!!! Josh & Mimi definitely did not deserve to win at all. I'm not even sure Mimi likes Josh. However, there is something so annoying about Nicole that I didn't want her to win.

Joey still acting like a complete tool again at the final ceremony. He looked like a sulky child being forced to go to school.

Of all the couples, I think I came to like Jess and Ayo best and that was mainly because of Jess.

All in all a very disappointing LI.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/07/2024 06:26

I think it is great to see a black couple to win regardless of whether or not they stay together. As for makeup, I thought it was Nicole, who looked the most different. I hope she was watching the make up artists for tips.

I think the Sean backtracking was commented on earlier. He’s so different from when he went into the villa and maybe he just got carried away. He is still young and the reason for him having an ‘oh shit’ moment can still bring about change so I do hope he will take some time to reflect upon his behaviour.

yes you’re right - I only singled Mimi out because there was some discussion upthread about her looking very different! yeah I’m hoping Nicole picked up some tips too or has someone doing her makeup from now on although I think part of her issue was the sunburn.

True he’s still young - maybe I’m just cynical and Sean really is reflecting on his rather negative character arc!

I also loved how Ciaran said Joey was the least mature, I mean we all knew that, but how perfect for him to come out and say it with Joey/Jess sitting there on Joey’s 34th 😆

Catlord · 30/07/2024 08:34

I thought Mimi and Josh would win. Even Maya was so much more enthusiastic about them when they were sat on the benches talking about their 'journeys'.

Ciaran or Josh could have won so it was between the girls. I'm not a huge Mimii fan but what was there really to get behind about Nicole?

She isn't a bad girl but I don't really feel as though she's given us much to go on. Kind of resonates with her early intro 'i work for my family business but spend a lot of time having fun, doing what I like and going off to Marbella' ok, great. i think if there hadn't been a local lad from down the road she'd have either been out much sooner or we'd have seen a lot more of Nicole. She's just stayed in a holiday comfort zone of mates and rugby boys and got through without questions because she and Ciaran have been a viable match. I hope they work out but as TV, it's a bit meh.

Anyway thanks for the forensic analysis, you're all awesome. I've needed it while in recovery from radiotherapy!! What next? Not sure I'm ready for the US version!

Catlord · 30/07/2024 08:40

My impression re Sean btw is that he's been quite reflective and possibly washed his hands of Joey, not expecting him to maintain the friendship anyway. He realises there will be no Pete wicks and Sam Thompson double act. He could have given it some waffle about 'i know it wasn't personal and he loves me really blah blah' but was very cool indeed. Combo of youthful idiocy and backing the wrong horse for strategic reasons, I don't think he's all bad.

Wishing you all the best with your recovery 💐

I will go back to my crime TV dramas and will wait for BB in the autumn!

Thanks @CellophaneFlower !!

I agree totally with what you have written about Nicole. Thanks for summing her up! Adding more best wishes for your recovery.

I enjoyed this series - it wasn't wall-to-wall lovey-dovey couples - at times they all seemed to hate each other so it made it more interesting! (Although maybe that says more about me than the islanders! 😆)

And thank God we didn't have the challenge where they had to transfer liquids etc mouth to mouth 🤮

CellophaneFlower · 30/07/2024 08:54

I have my own Love Island going on here anyway. Spent all day yesterday swanning round in my bikini and expect to do the same today. It's not a dental floss one though so I'm happy to sit on the sofas and won't be rubbing my arse round the worktops! Might even do a sports day with the kids later.... if I still have eggs left after my scrambled eggs on toast. Now where's those waffles....

Back21970 · 30/07/2024 09:03

Did someone say BB is back in the Autumn😀

Best thing about this year was probably this thread!

I was late to Love Island and keep wondering if I should go back and watch the early series when it seems it wasn’t quite so scripted.

Out of the finalists I would have wanted Jess & Ayo to win but didn’t care enough to vote - reasonably happy with the result though - if Sean & Matilda had won I think I would have put in a protest.

I thought Ciaran & Nicole would win, as did Nicole by the expression on her face!

It was nice to see Ronnie & Harriet, wish they had stayed in till the end - I might have even voted for them.

RenoDakota · 30/07/2024 09:05

Really pleased, and surprised, that Mimii and Josh won (well, that Nicole and Ciaran didn't).
Josh is an absolute darling and I hope that Mimii's low-key energy will be enough for him. Although I suspect, and hope, that she will be more animated and alive one-to-one without cameras tracking her every move.

I agree with a pp that Maya was warmer towards M&J than N&C, although the best of her warmth and love seemed to go to Jess. You could see that she really likes her. I loved her too, way more than any of the others. So engaging and funny and intelligent. Hope to see more of her on the outside (but not Ayo).

MargoLivebetter · 30/07/2024 09:10

Good luck @Catlord . I was just thinking I won't miss LI, but I'll miss the LI chat on here. Not sure I can face LI USA. I love the Auzzie one, but not sure when they will be doing another one of those.

I actually thought that Ronnie was lovely.
I would have liked him in the final instead of the odious Sean

Not to fussed about the rest tbh

Why do you say it was always going to be one of the black couples this year?

I was not expecting them to win at all! Glad they did but very surprised.

CellophaneFlower · 30/07/2024 09:48

I wasn't surprised they won as I think lots of voters didn't want Ciaran and Nicole to win, so tactically voted.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/07/2024 09:51

I voted for the first time this season, against N & C.

Evanna13 · 30/07/2024 10:38

Surprised and happy to see Josh and Mimi win. I feel they have good morals and set a great example. They are also very well liked by the other contestants and that says a lot.
Overall I enjoyed the series.

She looked dead behind the eyes tonight. Even more so than usual. Partner said she had eyes of a dead fish 🐟 😭

I thought she looked beautiful

StitchedfromNineExposures · 30/07/2024 11:43

I voted for Josh and Mimi, glad to see them win but a lack lustre season. Joey looked absolutely fuming all the way through that final I thought, finding it difficult to contain himself.

I wonder if he felt a little set up by the production. He is an old hand at reality TV and having read how the likes of TOWIE etc. works - they are essentially told what conversations to have, not scripted exactly but they are are sort of revved up and and encouraged. They also know that if they don't provide 'value' they won't be kept on.

I think a lot of his behaviour was acting in character - creating drama, let's be honest it would have been very boring in the final weeks without that.

I wonder if he feels he has been hung out to dry for really just doing the job he was paid for. Sean also turning on him. I think he will look back on this with some regret.

pinkdelight · 30/07/2024 11:50

Loved Josh's confusion when the announcement was made - great TV!

Happy with the outcome. I liked Ciaran and didn't mind Nicole but there wasn't much to get behind. It'll confuse matters for future contestants though, very hard to gameplay at all not knowing what viewers are voting for as it's definitely not the strongest couple. M&J are stunning and have individual appeal but I don't think they're gonna last. She's very internalised. She looked amazing last night - tbf Nicole looked much better than usual too. Think they both had make-up artists for once so the contouring horrors were gone, esp from N's nose.

As for this: WTF does Maya look like with her boobs spilling out of her dress? Looks awful! 😖

I noticed it's often an issue with her outfits when she sits down. They're great standing up but squish the hell out of her funbags when seats. That maroon corset a couple of weeks ago was the same. She is a total goddess though so it's only fair she isn't completely flawless. Huge improvement on Whitmore imo.
