Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

Mind you it hasn't stopped me applying for tickets to the launch show. Who knows, all the negative publicity might lower demand?

I am hoping to see the Legends of the Fall show. It's very close to me. With possibly 50% of the pros appearing being jerks of some kind or another!

If this keeps going the people left will be Claude and Dave Arch!

I am starting to think they might have to put it on hiatus but it seems so unlikely too in a celebratory year.

Oh dear, the show is plagued with one scandal after another in such a short time. It is the DM "reporting" however, amd they more often than not make something out of nothing.

Yes, I've just clicked the link and the story claims that Nadiya wanted to make a complaint about the show but it hasn't specified that the claim is about Kai. It just says that relations between Nadiya and Kai are frosty at the moment. Please don't let Kai turn out to be a knob.

It does feel as if the media has scented blood and that there's going to be a constraining atmosphere of fear hanging over the show from now on.

Is it the strictly culture or the dance world culture? So many allegations and Shirley can be a real bully to some of the contestants so I beginning to think it maybe a dance thing which is why they can’t see it’s wrong. The type of behaviour is ingrained in them from a young age.

One of the male pros or ex-pros - can’t remember which one now - said he was taught by Shirley between the ages of 17-22 and that she was indeed a brutal teacher in terms of her criticisms.

Wasn’t Nadiya unhappy about not being given a celebrity last year? It might just be that. I think the media now are searching for anything they can find relating to Strictly now!

Hope it is just that and it’s not about Kai (the article doesn’t say that it is a complaint about him).

No not Kai and Nadiya! We just saw their stage show recently and they were so lovely together! Such a lovely show with a wee segment where they both spoke about mental health looking out for each other, and being in a team through hard times which I took to mean Nadiya as she is Ukranian, was really sweet. I really hope Kai doesnt turn out to be horrible.

Shirley has talked at length about her own teachers belittling and bullying her and while you’d like to think she would in turn be a bit kinder with her own pupils, the videos I’ve seen of her teaching at “public” events definitely show someone you wouldn’t want to mess with!

I remember that Nadiya was very cross about not getting a partner last year. She seems very keen to be in the media spotlight. I think all the dancers are extremely driven and ambitious. Success on the programme secures future work. If your partner struggles and you are eliminated early then as a dancer you might feel you are waving work for the following year good-bye. On the other hand your partner might get a bit of career uplift and is possibly glad to finish or you are a BBC presenter and have been told to compete, you are the comedy turn ..and glad to go. Its not going to be a good mix..it does not excuse hitting, stamping and spitting.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with that at all @CaveMum - Shirley was simply teaching?!

@Arconialiving i didn’t mean to imply there was anything wrong with it, just pointing out she takes no nonsense. I can certainly see her being hard on her competitive pupils, though by no means implying she’d be abusive.

I am glad I didn't go for this, as to be honest, I don't want to hear anything more about mental health. Had a surfeit of that already with everyone and their dog jumping on the bandwagon. But I also don't want abuse, physical, verbal or mental.

Apparently Vincent has talked about choreographing for a couple who had to have a chaperone because they weren't getting on. Any detectives out there who want to go back and list all the couples Vincent has choreo'd for? Presumably it's an AT.

Funnily enough I think I remember Vincent featuring in another couple's rehearsal footage but not whose.

RE : videos, if anyone finds the thread doesn't load for them do speak up and we'll go back to no videos!

Vincent must have done AT choreography for loads and loads of couples, so it doesn't narrow it down much. Not Brendan and Lulu or Artem and Fern.
