Strictly Come Dancing '24 Thread 1 : Who will be our celebs and Pros?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/07/2024 20:45

Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

This is a NO SPOILER thread

I assume he'll have to omit the jive then? See video thread.
It was 12 years ago in fairness!

cathyandclaire · 05/08/2024 12:42

JB Gill looks decent but not a ringer, good picks so far

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/08/2024 12:43

Well Done for even knowing what he danced @FailBetter

Tis on the video thread. Ola was always good at jive choreo, fair play to her.
He's 5ft 8.
37 now.

Sorry I haven’t kept up with events or this thread but could someone kindly explain to me please, why, if the BBC are acting in good faith as they claim to be, they haven’t released the footage of training that producers purported to be shocked by, to the representatives or lawyers of Amanda Abington and Laura Whitmore?

Who is blocking the release of the footage?

Does anyway on here know please?

Surely if the BBC are keen to get this issue resolved before the start of this year’s season, they need to show willing and be transparent?

Edited to say: very sorry if I have posted this on the wrong strictly thread?

FailBetter · 05/08/2024 12:55

Because they're hoping we'll have forgotten that allegedly they had the outcome last Monday?
Both camps relatively quiet of late.
Gio saying he wanted the findings sooner.
Amanda was meant to be on Loose Women but I didn't see it?
She's had a death threat since.
Ranvir (?) possibly supporting anonymously via the Mirror.
It could be both have had a settlement with strings attached.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/08/2024 12:55

@Whatdoyouneedsonia32789

I'm not knowledgeable as to what goes on behind closed doors but we have been expecting some sort of announcement/report/conclusion any day now. Because as much was indicated

OP posts:
FailBetter · 05/08/2024 12:57

Maybe that's the "we have to make sacrifices" message on her phone clue.
They've paid her off but she cannot speak about it.
Dodgy as, if that's the case.
I was expecting an anodyne message.
Otherwise it's just a Scottish cloud "Not Proven" for both.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/08/2024 12:59

I really think with all the widespread coverage, the BBC should know, reluctantly or otherwise, that it has to give a proper public statement

Edited

I'm sure I read that they didn't release it to Amanda/her lawyers because they didn't want her/them to view it and manipulate or claims to for the content?
I don't have a source for this however and not sure how it all works.

I have been very interested to see the outcome though and disappointed it's not been shared.
It's so uncomfortable sharing all of these allegations without all the information and the outcome. I hate that's what culture is like now.

Whatdoyouneedsonia32789 · 05/08/2024 13:12

Thank you very much everyone for all of the responses. I thought I might have missed something with travelling a lot recently.

Yes that would explain the phrase on AA’s phone! I was wondering!

I agree with everyone’s thoughts on this that it does leave an unresolved quality to it all from the public’s perspective if there have been confidential settlements. Surely they owe viewers of the show an explanation at least? Very strange to start the new season with nothing said?

FailBetter · 05/08/2024 13:12

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 05/08/2024 12:32

So it's Tom Dean, Chris McCausland and JB Gill so far?

Not bad

I was thinking maybe Dannii Minogue for X Factor

JLS were presumably the X-factor clue?? (runners up 2008)

Aston - surprise boot from Strictly
Marvin - wife Rochelle did Strictly Children in Need
JB - won the Xmas special
Oritse - won Stepping out but hasn't done much since being unanimously acquitted of rape four years ago.

I'm surprised they haven't released it in the last week, given the amount of headlines to distract from that.
But they do have a tendency to do a Queen Liz Crown and keep a lid on things they're not already leaking
I'm amazed we haven't had a "recollections vary" statement.
The relationship between Glitterball and the press being symbiotic was fascinating listening (Krishnan last week on the media show)

Really pleased to see JB Gill on the lineup, he seems like a great person and has good natural rhythm but no formal dance training to speak of. I really really hope we don't have such a ringer this year, its just not fair on them, or anyone else. Plus it raises the bar so high that it increases the pressure on everyone unduly early. Also pleased to see Chris, he's super likeable and very funny, I can see him getting on with Diane really well.

ReadyTeddy1000 · 05/08/2024 13:47

Re the Gio/Amanda stuff, the BBC can't say very much if it's been eg a disciplinary hearing, as they owe their employees confidentiality. It's a difficult situation, and they also know that anything that it publicly says could kick off all the death threats etc again

Ooh v interested to listen to that, thank you very much for link!

Blackcats7 · 09/08/2024 21:13

I am hoping no ringer this year too.
Why did they start with the ringers? Can anyone remember when/ who was the first one? Is it to give the audience better dancers to watch early in the competition? I don’t see the logic at all.

Claire Sweeney and Jill Halfpenny were ringers, series 1 and 2

I assume they hired them because they couldn't afford to turn down well known stars who were keen to sign up.

The Love Islander is a professional dancer, and one of the young men did extremely well on a Christmas Special, so don't get your hopes up.
