Re last week's Butcher of Suburbia, I still can't get my head round the fact they don't 'think' he's killed anyone else
I mean WTAF!

I agree about the rapist videos - didn’t need to see them. Could have been talked through. I don’t agree about Annette’s murder. I found it unbelievable his responses to questions about it “have you ever done anything like this before” re dismembering. Massive pause. Then “I don’t think so.” Just incredible. I thought the interviews about it were mind blowing. Seemingly such a “nice” guy and undermined the initial thoughts that he had become overwhelmed with caring for her and had “snapped”

I've just posted the same thing re Butcher episodes! I bet if he'd have been legally represented they'd have gone down a diminished responsibility route.

New episode yesterday

Thanks

Toddlerteaplease · 07/07/2025 20:52

I completely agree about the videos. We don’t need to see them. I also agree that both recent episodes have shown things we didn’t need to see. It’s really gone down In quality.

I can’t believe he sent videos of him raping/sexually assaulting unconscious women and his mum found it funny! She needs locking up too! What sort of family are they?

MoominUnderWater · 07/07/2025 21:36

And the scary thing is if he hadn’t videoed himself doing this and saved the videos he might have got away with it. Because ultimately only one woman initially made a complaint and she couldn’t remember anything and he said he was consensual. Would have been a regular his word against her word case and he would likely have got off/not charged. Thank god the police searched his house so thoroughly.

Victoriawould24 · 07/07/2025 22:20

I thought it was sickening and agree about the videos I wish I hadn’t watched.
Again there was no information about how he got these victims so out of it etc was he drugging them (when he tried to cover his arese in the first interview saying he couldn’t breathe without a nasal spray weirdly he seemed to cope just fine).
What was his background and the getting expelled from school- so many things I’d rather have known than seeing those poor girls.
His sentence was an absolute disgrace, admitting guilt should not automatically mean a reduction in sentence.
This episode would not encourage any victim of rape to come forward although I hope his other victims come forward after watching and the people maintaining he was a nice guy admit they were wrong.

I initially thought I’d misheard when they mentioned his mum, unbelievable!

Victoriawould24 · 08/07/2025 08:25

His family must have had social services involved if he got expelled for overtly sexual behaviour so god knows what was happening within his family but I hope it’s been investigated afresh and any possible charges against the people in that group chat and his mum. The comment by I assume his brother about how bloody he made one victim was stomach churning.

I feel a bit grubby that I watched it.

burnoutbabe · 08/07/2025 08:48

Was it coincidence that 2 girls reported him at the same time? It seemed like one girl with short hair reported anc that started it then another long haired girl cane in after a chat message? But they didn’t say “oh another girl also reported” or suggest she got in touch after hearing rumours about him /his arrest. Was confusing.

MoominUnderWater · 08/07/2025 08:52

I also felt very uncomfortable watching the segments where they were showing the girls the videos. The actual video was blurred out and the clip was just focusing on the girls reaction. Wasn’t a fleeting shot either. It felt intrusive and that these girls may have been pressured to agreeing to everything been filmed if they wanted to be on tv. Like a pp said I’m more interested in the behind the scenes stuff of putting the case together and the outcome. Im Glad he got ten years. I’d have liked it to be a bit more but I guess it could have been worse. I think he’s a dangerous individual who would potentially have gone on to stranger rapes or worse.

one thing I thought was interesting was the police woman talking about how flashing is now realised to be more serious and the initial step to possibly worse crimes. All folllowing Wayne Couzens case. There are a small group of men near me who walk round the woods naked and the police don’t do anything. They claim to be naturists and the police say as long as their intentions isn’t to upset anyone it’s legal. That if they have upset anyone that doesn’t matter, it’s all about their intentions. I feel this is very wrong. As a lone female it makes me feel unsafe but I’m told to put up with it or stop using the woods. Im gas lit into thinking I’m being unreasonable. This is a very public area, sometimes they’re on the main paths in the more popular bit and there’s kids about. Sometimes they’re in the less popular bits and you c9me round a corner in the middle of nowhere, nobody else about and there’s two naked men!

Sayshesheshe · 08/07/2025 10:54

The whole rape episodes are shocking but the response from his mum made me gasp.

LizzieSiddal · 08/07/2025 11:20

I haven’t watched last nights episode yet but initially agreed with many here that showing the videos of victims was not necessary. However I then thought the program makers must have got permission from the women and maybe they felt they wanted the world to see what had been done to them. That would put a stop to anyone questioning the events. Many rape victims talk about feeling people don’t really believe them.

Wgatever the situation my heart goes out to those girls and I hope they are getting all the help they need to live with what’s been done to them. Also all of those women police officers were so brilliant, can’t praise them enough.

MissMarplesNiece · 08/07/2025 11:27

@MoominUnderWater That's a shocking disgrace. I can't believe the police are so blasé about it.

This was a very disturbing episode, what a revolting man and what horrible friends and family he's got. I really hope that him being jailed and having a tv programme made will shine the light on those who were receiving the videos, laughing and commenting about them and did not report him, and that work colleagues, neighbours etc get to know about their vileness. I'd hope there would be some offence they could be charged with, but I suspect there isn't. And I really didn't believe the tale told by the friend arrested for witness tampering, that he'd phoned the victim without meaning to. Hopefully being arrested gave him the fright of his life.

I did think that it was a bit unfortunate that when he was naked and masturbating at that roundabout, a passing driver wasn't so shocked at what they were seeing that they drove off the road and ran him over.

10 years doesn't seem a long time for the offences he committed and the lives he blighted. I suppose he'll be on the sex offenders register when he's released but I don't know if most of the time that counts for anything. His behaviour seemed so ingrained I think he'll still be a danger when he's released. Maybe men like him should have a "P" for pervert tattoo'd on their forehead to warn other women and girls in the future.

MoominUnderWater · 08/07/2025 11:36

@LizzieSiddal tgats a good point about the girls potentially wanting people to see how it affected them. Sadly I just worry some perverts will get off on it and will have been watching and wanking with excitement.

DH and I were discussing this.

Obviously him filming everything is an offence in itself, but that doesn't mean the other offences didn't happen, and wouldn't have happened without the filming. Just that there would have been no way to charge him or verify the victim accounts.

Absolutely terrifying to think how long he'd been behaving in the same way, how many people absolutely knew about it, how brazen he was to not only film but share the images and talk about them.

He won't be as unique as we'd like to believe.

famineofcrows · 08/07/2025 16:43

Crazy episode

One thing thing instantly struck me but that i've not seen anybody else comment on is that he comes across as very 'camp' (this was kind of confirmed in the first episode when one of the victims said 'he was just like one of the girls').

I'm certain that this is what massively helped him gain the victims trust. I bet most assumed he was gay!

I don't think a straight acting guy would have had anything like the 'success' that he had in terms of 'befriending' so many teenage girls as a guy in his 30's. I think it would be almost impossible for 95% of men. They'd just get rejected/ignored as some guy entering middle age trying to talk to freshly turned 18 year olds. I saw this non stop when working as a bouncer (older guys trying to hit on 18 year olds) and 90% of the time they were semi-ignored, so the fact this guy was able to literally build a huge social circle of teenagers who had completely trust in him kind of confirms for me that his campness played a massive role.

Can't believe he filmed so much of it and kept the footage! So lucky for us that he did!

He'll be out in 5 or so years, though? 10 year sentence and they always tend to serve half unless it's like a murder or something?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 08/07/2025 16:59

He will only be 38 when he gets out. Therefore likely to be very sexually active. Also, he started doing dodgy stuff at school and was excluded, so he’s probably been doing inappropriate or illegal things for 20-25 years. I don’t think it’s likely he will stop.

Victoriawould24 · 09/07/2025 08:04

He’s probably getting his depraved kicks in prison too

OnionBag · 09/07/2025 11:08

@MoominUnderWater that is shocking that the police aren’t dealing with this!! Can you go to the local newspaper to do an article on it or contact your MP, this is completely out of order!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 09/07/2025 20:19

What doesn’t shock but saddens me is that not one of the people he was sharing the images with thought to report him. But then think about Gisèle Pelicot, and how not one man reported it. Not the men who raped her or the men who knew it was happening but declined it.

It’s been in the papers loads. It’s actually a different constituency from where I live so my MP wouldn’t be interested.

theyre supposed to stay in the rspb bit but they don’t and even if they did the rspb bit still has public footpaths so I’m cross with the rspb too
