Discovering a series years after!

Has anyone been late, as in very late, to the party with a series? Something it turns out was a phenomenon in its time.
I've just discovered Torchwood in the last week! Circa 18 years after it initially aired! I mean I knew it existed, knew it was Dr Who related, but beyond that wasn't hugely interested at the time. I was so busy with life back then, and also didn't have a television for a while (trying to read, craft etc more).
I think the new series of Dr Who kind of put me in the mood for some sci-fi or fantasy, and browsing iPlayer the other day, I came across it.
I was looking for some MN threads on it, and they mostly, if not totally, date back to the noughties! I'm so late to the party. In fact I think everyone's gone home, got changed out of their party clothes and the glasses cleared away - years ago! So, here I am having a party of one! Loving it though.
Anyone else? Telly, films or even literature you've discovered years later?!

I watched Sopranos last year 24 years after it came out. Absolutely fantastic series!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/05/2024 09:13

I'm re-watching West Wing - still so good!

I recommend Torchwood. I'm still near the beginning. Many people, according to reviews, say it gets much better later on. So, it's great it's all there for me already, and I don't have to wait a year for the next series. One advantage of being late to the party!

Breaking bad and downtown. I knew both of them existed of course, but didn’t think they were my kind of thing. Bloody loved them both.

OneRedSandal · 19/05/2024 09:25

I just finished Mad Men! Such a brilliant show, so many good characters.

PuttingDownRoots · 19/05/2024 09:26

The first couple of series of Torchwood were good.

Children of Earth was freaky

The last series was good in its own way... but not Torchwood.

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 19/05/2024 09:28

Reading this thread, I realise I don't think I've watched any of the things mentioned!
Good to have some recommendations 😊

Really enjoying Poldark on Netflix at the moment :)

ToriTheStoryteller · 19/05/2024 09:28

Two Doors Down. Just started watching it, had never heard of it but a more recent episode was on by chance and I thought it looked good.

It's brilliant, although most of the time Cathy's behaviour is so awful that I'm laughing at the same time as wincing and thinking it's gone too far.😂

Cutting It. Watched that a couple of years ago and loved it.

Itsneverme · 19/05/2024 09:28

Started greys last December. Had just got to the finale episode of the last series when it started again in March lol

Ah, OK, thank you for this. Funnily enough, a lot of reviews say Children of Earth is the best one. But those same reviews really slate the first series, which so far I'm loving! I guess different tastes...

Funnily enough, of all the dramas cited on this thread, Poldark is, so far, the only one I did watch more or less at the time! Loved it. I love a good period drama. You've got loads of material to get through too. A good one for a rainy day. Enjoy 😊

I've just watched the first three series of Clocking Off. Fantastic drama...each one is a little play starring huge names like Sarah Lancashire, Christopher Eccleston, Ricky Tomlinson.

It changed over the years. Sort of like comparing Old Who with New Who and New New Who.

BestIsWest · 19/05/2024 10:11

Late to the party on lots of things. Just finished Catastrophe.

WhamBamThankU · 19/05/2024 10:54

Thinking of old series, can anyone remember Two Thousand Acres of Sky? Wonder if it's available to watch anywhere, I loved it as a kid!
