Bridgerton Season 3 May 16th binge watch together

I’m not a telly addict but I became obsessed with Bridgerton during Covid times. I love the casting, the settings, the dances, the music, the yearning, and the guarantee of a happy ending.

I’m embarrassed to admit how much I love it in real life because it’s so shallow.

Is anyone else planning to binge watch season 3 when it’s released next Thursday? If so, can we set up a MN support group please?

@cathyandclaire yes! I wondered this too! Would be easy enough to introduce Sophie into that household as she'd have obviously always been in the background.

neverclockwatching · 19/05/2024 11:23

Ah @cathyandclaire that makes sense. Benedict's current terrible story line must be just a 'filler '

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/05/2024 11:54

Benedict always seems to get the filler, terrible storyline - bit of a waste of a good actor

I agree, but it also means they're keeping him there for longer. Because of the way Benedict's story goes in the books (I haven't read them all, but I did skim-read his and Francesca's) I did wonder if they were going to plant the seed this season.

Callmejudith · 19/05/2024 13:28

I love Lady Bridgerton, she's absolutely the best character. Francesca is beautiful but bored of her storyline though the silence with the Earl was funny.

Is an Earl higher than a Lord?

Mistymornin · 19/05/2024 13:54

Thinking ahead, I doubt the Viscount and Viscountess will be in S4 as by then, dowager Lady B and family will have moved out from Bridgerton House so I don't think we will see them (they were hardly in parts 1-4). Historically, will she still have access to the country estate or she could run off with The Gardener!!

virgocatlover · 19/05/2024 14:22

Francesca does seem boring so far but her book is the smuttiest. I think it will be a while before she gets her season though - I imagine Benedict will be next, followed by Eloise.

Karmaisagod · 19/05/2024 14:27

Question for those of you who've read the books: is there a move away from the Ton, London and the season in later books? I've just remembered also reading Eloise's book and neither that nor Francesca's happen in London, right?

I wondered if the Polin story means the end of Lady Whistledown, and from then on the Bridgerton siblings' stories are not set in the season anymore.

I'd love a summary of how the stories develop in the books, if that's OK and anyone can be bothered.

SPOILER

Yes, Eloise's and Francesca's stories do move away from London. Francesca lives in Scotland and Eloise's story is set in Gloucestershire. Hyacinth's and Gregory's stories are back in London.

LW ends after Colin's book, but who knows if they will end it then in the series? I think they will find a way to continue.

Mistymornin · 19/05/2024 14:47

Virgocatlover, good point. LW is such an integral part of the series so no doubt it will keep going. But that means once Polin are wedded they will remain in London, will they move in across the square as Polin will produce the Fetherington heir?

I think but may be wrong that an Earl is the son of a Duke and thus higher than a Lord

virgocatlover · 19/05/2024 15:05

From Google:

Peers up to the rank of Duke (that is Baron, Viscount, Earl or Marquis) are formally addressed as My Lord. Whilst Dukes are addressed and referred to as Your Grace.

The five titles of the peerage, in descending order of precedence, or rank, are: duke, marquess, earl, viscount, baron. The highest rank of the peerage, duke, is the most exclusive.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/05/2024 18:06

Finishing off now, still on the fourth, found 3 and 4 a bit dull in comparison to the first two. Too much Mondriches. Don't really care for them or the storyline.

Feel sorry for Cressida.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/05/2024 18:09

With Anthony inheriting the fortune, how will the others support their wives?

hamsterno1 · 19/05/2024 18:22

Francesca's story will be a while because she has three years or so before it starts (at the risk of spoilers).

I think in the books she is married (offstage) between Benedict and Colin. So if she gets married in this season, there will be time for Benedict and Eloise's series before her series timeline starts.

Don't they all have trust funds, so get an income from the estate.

I think that's what they're always going on about in Jane Austen about 'having £10,000 a year' etc

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/05/2024 18:30

With 4 males to support, their father would have to have been very wealthy indeed in the beginning for each to be independently wealthy in their own right.

bryceQ · 19/05/2024 18:31

In Stephanie Lauren's books the younger brothers all have vocations that make them money such as art dealing etc because the eldest son would inherit the family estate. Second and third sons were certainly less "eligible" but this is all fantasy so it really doesn't matter 😂

Don't the wives families have to pay a dowry?

There was an extract from the books on Twitter and apparently each brother was left their own estate by the late Viscount and Colin is said to be more wealthy than most Lords etc in the ton.

hamsterno1 · 19/05/2024 18:54

My question is whether Michael and Sir Philip will both make an appearance in this season.

neverclockwatching · 19/05/2024 19:01

Yes in the books it said that 'unusually Anthony had settled sizeable incomes for all his brothers'

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/05/2024 19:34

Ah, I've only read the first one. I didn't think it was great. Series much better.

In the real world younger brothers Joined the Army or the Navy, or became politicians, . Some even became vicars . Mr Knightly did not approve of Emma’s fanciful matchmaking because Mr Elton was higher than Harriet in status .
