Got a day off today so I’m binging Baby Reindeer. Two episodes in and it’s great so far, I see that it’s previously been a stage show but I’ve never heard of it so looking forward to finding out what happens. It’s about a comedian being stalked by a woman in her 40s.

Saw ad last night with the tiny man in a glass. What’s it about?

Rosesanddaisies1 · 11/04/2024 13:03

Saw the stage show at Edinburgh Festival years ago - can't believe it's on Netflix now!

Oh, I didn’t see the ad beforehand.

A comedian/bar worker in his 20s encounters a woman in her 40s in the pub where he works. She starts stalking him, I have no idea where a glass comes into it!? So far it’s really good, it doesn’t portray the ‘relationship’ as purely stalker/victim. It’s a drama, funny in parts. Apparently based on a true story.

When a struggling comedian shows one act of kindness to a vulnerable woman, it sparks a suffocating obsession which threatens to wreck both their lives.

I'm on Ep 4. It's pretty disturbing/ upsetting tbh, just to warn you.

BlancheSaysYes · 11/04/2024 17:48

I've binge watched it all today and my God, it's a tough watch. Some fantastic acting, and some really deep, dark, disturbing scenes. Not one for the faint hearted.

Heliss · 11/04/2024 22:06

I just watched it all. It's compelling, but took far darker turns than I was expecting.

Raspberrymoon49 · 11/04/2024 22:22

Am on ep 3, missed why she calls him Reindeer, does anyone know please?

You find out in the last episode.

Loved this, binge watched the full series today. Be warned, episode 4 is dark.

Kate3150 · 12/04/2024 14:51

I am just about to start episode 4, feel a bit anxious from comments on here 🫣

BlancheSaysYes · 12/04/2024 16:06

It's very much worth watching but my goodness, it gets very dark. I'm still going over it in my head after binge watching it yesterday. I would recommend a large gin to hand (even though it's only mid afternoon).

JovialNickname · 12/04/2024 16:09

Cheers for the recommendation this sounds right up my street! I love really dark stuff 😁

Neveralonewithaclone · 12/04/2024 16:12

I'm watching it, it's very strange / compelling. As a fat person I'm wondering why she has to be fat? Obviously fat actresses should work too and she's exceptionally good. But, I don't know, would they have had a relationship if she wasn't?? 🤔 Is it part of why he doesn't want to have a relationship with her despite the fact that he does like her to an extent?

BlancheSaysYes · 12/04/2024 16:15

@Neveralonewithaclone her size isn't relevant. Even if she was a tiny size 8, it would never have worked between them. I'm not sure if the part was played by a fat actress when it was a stage play.

Neveralonewithaclone · 12/04/2024 16:16

Oh good Blanche! Then I'm very glad a fat and excellent actress is playing the part.

goldenlloyd · 12/04/2024 16:30

I was very intrigued by this Guardian review (which also warns about episode 4). Apparently the stage version was a one man show and has been significantly fleshed out for the series.

Pantaloons99 · 12/04/2024 16:32

Watching it now. Great series. I want to shake him and say ',nooooo'.

StellaGibson2022 · 13/04/2024 01:32

Left me disturbed and I wish I had stopped watching.

I read the Guardian review; did it seem to infer that some of it was poetic license for his stand-up?

Spratt · 13/04/2024 09:28

Just finished. I thought it was brilliant, very moving. Not many people open themselves up completely like the writer of this.

I just finished it. Wow. What an astonishingly brave and brilliant series. Really hard to watch at times and never before have I felt such contradictory emotions all at once. Utterly compelling.

TitsInAbsentia · 13/04/2024 20:05

Came to MN to see if anyone else was watching this and lo, it's the top of the posts for us telly addicts! I'm already un-nerved by it all (she said 'beef curtains'...christ on a wheelybin....) - is it really bad? How close is it meant to be to the real story?

gentlesea · 13/04/2024 23:08

Just finished this. OMG. Episode 4 went to a very very dark place but episode 6 completely emotionally destroyed me. I was expecting a dark comedy but this was on another level - brutally honest, moving and just brilliant. The scene with his dad... Surely one of the best shows of the year so far.

@Raspberrymoon49 that is explained later on in the series.

lul1 · 13/04/2024 23:18

What a load of crap. Were we meant to feel sorry for him? I couldn't stand him. He brought everything on himself (apart from that one incident).

lul1 · 13/04/2024 23:22

And he wrote it. Makes it worse. He kreeps me out.

unwatchthread · 14/04/2024 06:17

I loved it, the episode where he tells his parents everything had me weeping.

i did find it interesting from a man’s POV and I didn’t really know what to think about some of the really poor decisions he made (WRT Martha, not the older guy). Also made me think that women being stalked would have probably ended up dead if they’d made some of those same decisions were they being stalked.

Excellent watch though, they were all amazing actors. I’d seen the actress who played Martha in something else and I can’t think what?

unwatchthread · 14/04/2024 06:19

Also really liked Teri and was glad that she at least seemed to have a happy outcome.
