Another new drama wirh good old ch5

50/50 if will be good or cheese 😂

The Cuckoo is a four-part series will start on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday April 8 2024, with episodes running across the week from Monday to Thursday April 11 at the same time.

Episodes will also arrive on streaming service My5 (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/best-channel-5-dramas-all-the-must-see-tv-shows-to-watch-on-my5)

The Cuckoo kicks off with married couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) having just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the country town where Jessica grew up.

But as the financial crisis hits, the couple fall on hard times and risk losing their beautiful home. With no other choice, they take in lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny), who very quickly begins to start trouble in the family, flirting with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes and building an inappropriate rapport with their adopted daughter Alice.

Jessica soon realises something dark and twisted is going on, and before long the pair must fight for one another and to save their own lives.

The Cuckoo is a tense Channel 5 thriller series starring Jill Halfpenny as a lodger who forces her way into the lives of her host family.

She plays Sian, a beautiful but mysterious woman who moves in with hard-up couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) and their adopted daughter.

But as she oversteps the boundaries time and time again, Jessica starts to wonder if there’s more to Sian than meets the eye...

Jill Halfpenny says: "Viewers will know quite quickly what Sian wants, but I think the show then becomes about whether she manages to succeed — that’s the thrill of it.

Nick and Jessica have already made their worst move letting Sian into the house. The minute she’s inside, she can start messing with their minds. People will be shouting at the telly!"

The year timelines didn’t match for a start.
Feel bad saying this about a young girl, but her acting was utter shite!! (Alice)

She was in whitstable Pearl last night and ok

She has also written a book which got turned into a play /drama which is amazing as she is only 20

Think she was 14 then

I haven't seen any of the eps. But it sounds like The Nest with Martin Compston.

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 08:35

It was watchable rubbish
Made me laugh they had a tiny removal van for all their things!
Nice location for the caravans
Would you survive those waters ?
I know I wouldn't !

Mairzydotes · 12/04/2024 08:36

A lot of it reminded me of other things I've seen . The bit where she said she wanted to be with her baby and went over the edge reminded me of Mama.

purpleme12 · 12/04/2024 08:36

It was nothing like The Nest

Shityshitybangbang · 12/04/2024 08:40

That’s great and well done to her, but her acting was bad in this.

purpleme12 · 12/04/2024 08:52

I didn't think she was bad at acting

JMSA · 12/04/2024 09:04

I agree that the age thing was ridiculous. It's like we were led to believe that Sian was a teenage mum, hanging about with lads at the caravan park. In reality, she'd have been around 30 when Alice was born!
I hope Claire Goose smiles a lot in real life. Her smile completely transforms and lights up her whole face Smile

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 09:07

To be fair , maybe all she had at the caravan back then was an old magnetic tape machine ? They do still work , but she might have needed a pencil to wind the tape back when it went funny.
Although I agree the timelines didn't work and a younger actress cast as Sian or have it set in the 00s might have worked better.
Why didn't the aunt say the caravan number or name too? First thing you'd ask as it's on a site.
Lee got over his stabbing quickly
I knew she probably wasn't dead though.

lazymum99 · 12/04/2024 09:11

if Sian was supposed to have had her baby in the 90s at 16ish and was just finding any baby called Alice born on 7/9 then they should have made it clearer. Otherwise the time line and ages were ridiculous

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 09:15

Sad that her actual baby died though :(
Mum said she liked her drawing of the woman with no eyes at the end , I thought it was scary!!
It was a mash up of many books I've read over the years with similar storylines too.

Trinity65 · 12/04/2024 10:23

Overall it was an ok watch imo

However, would a jump/fall from that height not finish a person off ?

purpleme12 · 12/04/2024 10:23

You've got to suspend belief on these things 😂

Smokeysgirl · 12/04/2024 10:40

@daffodilandtulip No, they actually mention the year she was born as well as the day and month, which makes Sians baby only 16 which is ridiculous. It would have made a more believable storyline to have her just searching for adopted baby girls who were born on that day and month but not the year, that would have shown her to be unbalanced. Also, how on earth did she find out this information about these babies? It's all highly confidential, especially, as they were all under 18. How did she find their addresses etc?

Smokeysgirl · 12/04/2024 10:41

@purpleme12 Exactly!

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 10:52

Sian was clearly a strong swimmer in boots and a coat in choppy seas.
I think we are meant to believe that she is just searching for a teen with the same date of birth / name etc.
it's sad that Auntie Fay couldn't Dob her in to the police especially if she is finding out confidential info on people ( not sure how though)
Many plot holes , probably a bit easier to trace people years ago , but it can't be as easy these days ?

So Nick survived being stabbed in the stomach and Sian survived a long plunge into the rocky sea and being bashed over the head with a tin by Alice . They're a hardy lot down that neck of the woods .

Someone asked why Alice ran to the cliffs rather than the park exit . It was the only way it could be written in that Sian fell into the sea 😅

So she's back and knocking on the door . All set up for series 2 ?
🤔

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 13:35

I'd have tried to have avoided the cliffs myself, but she didn't know where she was headed and was probs hoping for a coastal path or some other way out avoiding Sian in the process. Or a quick way back to the car.
I hate chase scenes , plus I'd get caught every time as I can't run ( or fallen over)
I'm more likely to have ended up in the sea too!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2024 15:37

That was me @butterpuffed

Weird there was no one at all at the camp

Wonder where it was filmed as looked a nice caravan park sandy beach
Plus obv the Rocky stones

the80sweregreat · 12/04/2024 16:29

IMDB said a lot of it was filmed in Ireland
I am guessing most of the last episode?

Inkanta · 12/04/2024 21:15

Good ending.🙂 Ha haa - I do like these channel 5 dramas. My cup of tea.

Wishimaywishimight · 13/04/2024 08:06

The policewoman is in Irish soap, Fair City (she usually has a scottish accent!) 😀

Twonewcats · 13/04/2024 12:13

I binged it last night. Quite enjoyed it overall, but thought JH was awful in it! Just hushed monotone throughout. I also didn't love that she had MH but was portrayed as being completely nuts.

martinisforeveryone · 13/04/2024 14:57

I’d saved it up for a binge, but thanks to ITVX pressed play for the final episode by mistake. I thought we were getting constant flashbacks, instead we’d cur right to the chase 🤭

From what I did see we saved ourselves a fair bit of time 😁
