Another new drama wirh good old ch5

50/50 if will be good or cheese 😂

The Cuckoo is a four-part series will start on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday April 8 2024, with episodes running across the week from Monday to Thursday April 11 at the same time.

Episodes will also arrive on streaming service My5 (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/best-channel-5-dramas-all-the-must-see-tv-shows-to-watch-on-my5)

The Cuckoo kicks off with married couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) having just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the country town where Jessica grew up.

But as the financial crisis hits, the couple fall on hard times and risk losing their beautiful home. With no other choice, they take in lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny), who very quickly begins to start trouble in the family, flirting with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes and building an inappropriate rapport with their adopted daughter Alice.

Jessica soon realises something dark and twisted is going on, and before long the pair must fight for one another and to save their own lives.

The Cuckoo is a tense Channel 5 thriller series starring Jill Halfpenny as a lodger who forces her way into the lives of her host family.

She plays Sian, a beautiful but mysterious woman who moves in with hard-up couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) and their adopted daughter.

But as she oversteps the boundaries time and time again, Jessica starts to wonder if there’s more to Sian than meets the eye...

Jill Halfpenny says: "Viewers will know quite quickly what Sian wants, but I think the show then becomes about whether she manages to succeed — that’s the thrill of it.

Nick and Jessica have already made their worst move letting Sian into the house. The minute she’s inside, she can start messing with their minds. People will be shouting at the telly!"

I struggled to get through the first episode. It was completely unbelievable - the woman showing up with the bill at exactly the right moment JH was at the property. I used to like JH as an actress but she's irrationally annoying me now.

Obv planned

She must have known about the debt somehow

Who carries 3k

I’m just watching episode 1, it’s kind of terrible but in a really enjoyable way. I have a massive soft spot for Lee Ingleby.

the80sweregreat · 09/04/2024 21:03

I also like Lee Ingleby , he is very attractive in an odd kind of way

Smokeysgirl · 09/04/2024 21:05

No wonder they are short of money, they have all their lights on during the day, their electric bill must cost a fortune! Also, the plumber didn't deserve to be paid as he hadn't done a very good job, the water coming out of the kitchen tap was filthy and the husband's just had to fix the shower himself!

Yep, odd but lovely!

In other news I’ve only just realised Jill Halfpenny and Polly Walker are two different people

JL690 · 09/04/2024 21:10

I was hoping it would pick up pace in episode 2 but it is still slow slow slow.

WGACA · 09/04/2024 21:19

🥱 😴 💤

JL690 · 09/04/2024 21:19

That was just too weird, the lodger going to the school like that

I know what you mean

givebeesachance · 09/04/2024 21:33

One thing that’s annoying me: she wouldn’t have a tenancy agreement, she’s a lodger.

daffodilandtulip · 09/04/2024 21:38

Ah there we go!

Still slow though.

Missed the first half hour of episode two , but I don't think I missed too much. Is Alice her child? She might have got it wrong though !

the80sweregreat · 09/04/2024 21:51

Claire Goose looks a bit like a young Helen Mirren at times , same kind of acting too
I must admit the acting isn't that bad , it's just too slow and moody.
The greenery outside that house would drive me mad! It's a nice house inside

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 21:55

I'm Behind

Doesn't the teacher /head know who the parents are ?

OP posts:

It's almost making me feel we need Pauline and her curtains back .. at least that was fast moving and funny at times.
This is just dreary

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 21:55

I'm Behind

Doesn't the teacher /head know who the parents are ?

I thought that then decided it's because it's a new school and she was only ever dropped off in the car outside

Smokeysgirl · 09/04/2024 22:00

@Blondeshavemorefun I think it's because they are new to the area that the Head didn't know the parents.

Smokeysgirl · 09/04/2024 22:04

Interesting that the Aunt said to Jill's character that she couldn't be her baby? What does the Aunt know? (or am I trying to read too much into this in the hope that it's going to get better ha ha).

daffodilandtulip · 09/04/2024 22:24

I don't think the secondary heads in either of my kids schools would recognise me tbh.

She found the adoption papers in the safe. The safe code was the girls birthday.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 23:11

Ok seen

I think maybe she can't be hers due what what auntie May said. So I think her daughter died

Ans Sian stealing her money from the tin 🥲

Why didn't they tell her she was adopted years ago. Simple basic facts when 3/4 we choose you and more when older

Mini blondes knows she ivf and needed help to get her in my tummy

Silly using birthday for code of safe

Good point new to town so wouldn't know parents

Why did they move from london. Was it the affair ?

Daughter Alice is meant to be 14. Yet looks much older. And is 20 in really life

Very irresponsible of Sian fo throw Alice the keys after bullies and say you drive

but wonder what she said to them as day was better next day at school

House is lovely !! Why are they so skint if just moved there ?

Why buy such a big house - must have cost a pretty penny with house grounds drive etx

Jessica doesn't work so needs to get a job. Not sure what Nick does
