Another new drama wirh good old ch5

50/50 if will be good or cheese 😂

The Cuckoo is a four-part series will start on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday April 8 2024, with episodes running across the week from Monday to Thursday April 11 at the same time.

Episodes will also arrive on streaming service My5 (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/best-channel-5-dramas-all-the-must-see-tv-shows-to-watch-on-my5)

The Cuckoo kicks off with married couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) having just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the country town where Jessica grew up.

But as the financial crisis hits, the couple fall on hard times and risk losing their beautiful home. With no other choice, they take in lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny), who very quickly begins to start trouble in the family, flirting with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes and building an inappropriate rapport with their adopted daughter Alice.

Jessica soon realises something dark and twisted is going on, and before long the pair must fight for one another and to save their own lives.

The Cuckoo is a tense Channel 5 thriller series starring Jill Halfpenny as a lodger who forces her way into the lives of her host family.

She plays Sian, a beautiful but mysterious woman who moves in with hard-up couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) and their adopted daughter.

But as she oversteps the boundaries time and time again, Jessica starts to wonder if there’s more to Sian than meets the eye...

Jill Halfpenny says: "Viewers will know quite quickly what Sian wants, but I think the show then becomes about whether she manages to succeed — that’s the thrill of it.

Nick and Jessica have already made their worst move letting Sian into the house. The minute she’s inside, she can start messing with their minds. People will be shouting at the telly!"

I was quite pleased mother got pushed in cellar. All that shouting and huffing and puffing she was doing. Get in the cellar! 😀

the80sweregreat · 11/04/2024 19:30

I bet there is a big twist as these dramas always have a gasp moment and so far there hasn't been any of that

butterpuffed · 11/04/2024 20:07

Yes , there's bound to be a twist but it'll probably be up to the usual Ch 5 standard 😅. Love it !

Umanresources · 11/04/2024 21:07

I think I would have let Alice go. She’s a terrible actress, trying to act younger than she is. I’ve watched 3 episodes but not even that bothered about what becomes of them all!

lazymum99 · 11/04/2024 21:14

If I were the mum I’d let her take the miserable moody daughter 🤪 She isn’t a hood actress. Only has the one sulky face

lazymum99 · 11/04/2024 21:28

stretching it a bit for Jill Halfpenny to be in her early 30s!

Apparently she was originally going to play the Jessica character, then she wanted the Sian part.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2024 21:36

Twist is it's not her daughter

There has got to be something more to this

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2024 21:44

Alice does do a lot of gurning faces 😂

Alice's coat annoyed me , I thought she was going to end up in the water and it would be a floatation devise.

So has the caravan been untouched for 16 years?Or is that where Sian usually lives? It must cost a lot in site fees.

purpleme12 · 11/04/2024 22:56

I think it was untouched

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2024 23:03

So Aunty May tells them where caravan park is but not what number the mobile home was 🙄

I guessed right then

Puffs up with pride 😂

Not her daughter

But seems Sian isn't dead and continuing her hunt for her child .......

Why did Alice run to the sea and not along the path /road to entrance

Was a bit silly tbh

But then managed to pretend she was her daughter to calm Sian down

But all in all not a bad mini drama

Kept us on our toes

I think she normally lives there

Tho with no water and didn't look dusty as such

There's been a real cock up with the time frame here. If Alice is only 16 then Sian would have been about 32 when she was knocking about with the "lads" from the caravan site and ended up pregnant by one of them. Also, 16 years ago we had CDs, we didn't have tapes, tapes were from years earlier than that, so you'd think Sian would be playing a CD whilst giving birth to Alice not a tape. The whole time frame was so mixed up it made it laughable.

purpleme12 · 11/04/2024 23:10

Do we know how old Sian was meant to be in the programme though?

Smokeysgirl · 11/04/2024 23:37

Well, Jill Halfpenny is 48 in real life and, she's a very attractive woman, but you'd be hard pressed to believe she was under 45. That puts her at at least 29+ when she gave birth to Alice which is a bit old for her to be hanging around with the young lads from the holiday park and for her mother to abandon her to her Aunts care because she's ended up pregnant.

This is true

Tho I'm trying to forget time lines

I'm wondering if they switch the watee and electric off when the site is closed . Either that or they haven't been paid.

There were gas bottles and fire extinguishers in some of the shots, I thought there was going to be an explosion.

Mairzydotes · 12/04/2024 07:05

They could have easily changed the date of birth so she had been born during the 90s, and used earlier mobile phones , and an older car for the parents then set the story in the 00s . Then would account for the tape.

They don't mention Sian's age . Maybe we are meant to think she's had a hard life. I wonder which actress they originally had in mind to play her?

I think this was the point. Making it obvious that she was completely mad to believe that Alice was her daughter. I think the very end shows that she's just finding anyone called Alice born on 7/9, doesn't matter which year.

Shityshitybangbang · 12/04/2024 08:01

The year timelines didn’t match for a start.
Feel bad saying this about a young girl, but her acting was utter shite!! (Alice)

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/04/2024 08:02

@Mairzydotes I thought Alice was going to whack Sian over the head with the fire extinguisher
