Another new drama wirh good old ch5

50/50 if will be good or cheese 😂

The Cuckoo is a four-part series will start on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday April 8 2024, with episodes running across the week from Monday to Thursday April 11 at the same time.

Episodes will also arrive on streaming service My5 (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/best-channel-5-dramas-all-the-must-see-tv-shows-to-watch-on-my5)

The Cuckoo kicks off with married couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) having just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the country town where Jessica grew up.

But as the financial crisis hits, the couple fall on hard times and risk losing their beautiful home. With no other choice, they take in lodger Sian (Jill Halfpenny), who very quickly begins to start trouble in the family, flirting with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes and building an inappropriate rapport with their adopted daughter Alice.

Jessica soon realises something dark and twisted is going on, and before long the pair must fight for one another and to save their own lives.

The Cuckoo is a tense Channel 5 thriller series starring Jill Halfpenny as a lodger who forces her way into the lives of her host family.

She plays Sian, a beautiful but mysterious woman who moves in with hard-up couple Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose) and their adopted daughter.

But as she oversteps the boundaries time and time again, Jessica starts to wonder if there’s more to Sian than meets the eye...

Jill Halfpenny says: "Viewers will know quite quickly what Sian wants, but I think the show then becomes about whether she manages to succeed — that’s the thrill of it.

Nick and Jessica have already made their worst move letting Sian into the house. The minute she’s inside, she can start messing with their minds. People will be shouting at the telly!"

£3k for a deposit in cash. Who caries that

How convienant it was the amount

Deposit is usually what 4/6w rent

Bedroom in house all bills what maybe 200 a week - £800 a month

I'm Wondering if Alice the daughter knows the lodger as she glared at her I. The kitchen

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 13:19

Or does Nick know her

Blimey she's getting her foot in the door pretty quickly. Quite enjoying it.

RaraRachael · 09/04/2024 13:50

I've not bothered with this one as I've spent so many hours watching programmes like this only for them to turn out to be utter shit - Love Ra, The Gone and something else that Jill H was in, set in Ireland a few years ago.

I've given up hoping that there are any decent drama series out there.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 13:53

Well seems I'm the only one who enjoyed

So she is mum to Alice ?

So did they adopt Alice or is Alice the dads nicks - not not mums Jessica and nick and Sian were together 15yrs ago tho assume if were he would recognise her

I will def be watching tonight

It was a little slow but quite an easy watch, Hopefully it will tell us a bit more tonight, he didn't seem to recognise her.

Trinity65 · 09/04/2024 14:28

Is it based on a book ?

I guessed (or, if it is a book, have read it) almost straight away what was going on with the Lodger.
Hope it speeds its pace a bit though in later episodes.

Smokeysgirl · 09/04/2024 14:36

I'm enjoying it. I guessed early on the connection between the daughter and the lodger (that's if I'm correct). It's not exactly riveting but I like Jill Halfpenny and hope it gets better. It's just nice to have something to watch every night!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 14:36

Not sure if based on a book

So alice must be adopted then

And maybe why Jessica feels a struggle to bond

I'm enjoying this so far . Not sure Jessica really does know Nick but think she knows quite a bit about him , and is using manipulation .

Smokeysgirl · 09/04/2024 16:51

@Blondeshavemorefun Hi fives to you too! Looking forward to tonight's episode!

JMSA · 09/04/2024 17:38

I quite liked it and will definitely continue to watch.
It is very cliched and predictable. You could almost have a bingo list Grin My money is on Sian threatening Alice's school bullies!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 17:46

Yes she needs to stand up to the bullies

Horrible kids

I couldn't quite get my head around the daughter's artwork. Some of it just looked like messy scribbles to me and wasn't very good, yet, the lodger (sorry, can't remember her name), was raving about how good she was and how she should show it. Also, at one stage, I wondered if the daughter was pregnant as her clothes were so baggy and Ill fitting and she seemed to be drawing a baby's face. Definitely agree about the horrid bullies though, I'm waiting for the lodger to go all Rebecca Mornay in "the hand that rocks the cradle" on them! (showing my age now).

I meant Sian not Jessica .

Teentrauma · 09/04/2024 19:27

It's not great so far but I'm committed. Still better than Love Rat, that will take some beating 🤣

RaraRachael · 09/04/2024 19:28

That's exactly what my OH said, when I read him some of the comments on here!

the80sweregreat · 09/04/2024 19:38

I don't mind Jill Halfpenny , but the trailer for this went on and on and by the end I thought ' I might not bother now' !
Is it based on a book as the storyline sounds familiar?
Was it any good ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2024 19:41

Story line is familiar to me
But not that it's her dd

Yes worth a watch @the80sweregreat

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 09/04/2024 19:43

Might give it a try.
(JH isn't a bad actress, but they did give a lot away with that long trailer for it !)

JSMill · 09/04/2024 19:49

I struggled to get through the first episode. It was completely unbelievable - the woman showing up with the bill at exactly the right moment JH was at the property. I used to like JH as an actress but she's irrationally annoying me now.
