We love a ch 5 drama 😁

Too Good To Be True is a tense Channel 5 thriller starring Kara Tointon and Allen Leech.

Too Good To Be True is a four-part thriller that starts on Channel 5 on Wednesday February 14 2024 at 9pm, with the second episode on Thursday 15 February at the same time.

The series will then continue on Wednesday and Thursday the following week to finish on February 22 2024 .

Too Good To Be True is a Channel 5 thriller that sees Kara Tointon playing Rachel, a cash-strapped single mother who works all hours as a cleaner to give her son Liam a better life.

She’s thrilled when she lands a well-paid job for a wealthy client called Elliot, but when Elliot’s behaviour becomes increasingly controlling, Rachel digs into his past and discovers some dark and disturbing truths.

Downton Abbey star Allen Leech plays the secretive businessman Elliot while Cold Feet’s John Thomson is Rachel’s boss, Geoff.

Too Good To Be True follows Kara Tointon's character Rachel, a young, single mother who is constantly on the poverty line.

She works as a cleaner and one day her boss is approached by a businesswoman acting on behalf of a rich client called Elliot.

He’s a regular guest at the hotel where Rachel works and asks if Rachel can clean exclusively for him.

Rachel jumps at the chance, with the opportunity to work better hours and earn more cash proving too hard to resist.

Gradually though, Elliot’s behaviour towards Rachel and Liam raises red flags and Rachel starts to dig into his past, learning how Elliot’s childhood is the key to his obsession with her and her son.

Her first meeting with mysterious Elliot is when she is putting out some rubbish at the end of her shift and this figure pops out from behind some bins.

It’s just this passing guy who is looking after a stray kitten. She thinks that’s sweet but she’s late for her next stop, which is getting Liam to school.

Then this job opportunity comes up. She’s a bit flummoxed and a bit weirded out by it. Why her?

She arrives at this incredible mansion in a fairy-tale setting and wonders what the heck is going on.

She is now cleaning this huge, beautiful house and the guy she met a few days before is now this gorgeous Prince Charming as it were.

He’s seemingly very nice. He’s given her this shot. But she doesn’t know what to make of it. And then things start to unravel."

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2024 06:11

I found the lingering look at Liam at the end, very chilling. It didn’t occur to me if he was worrying he was the same as Elliot, I saw it more as a threat that history was going to repeat. I thought back to the teacher’s complaint that Liam bringing in the dead bird had upset the other kids. I hope they didn’t think it’s good enough to set up for a future story. To me it was one of those four parters you can sum up in one paragraph and it was all very predictable.

Yes I thought it was trying to convey the possibility of Liam being 'evil' like Elliott

Comedycook · 23/02/2024 09:16

I thought there was going to be something cleverer about the whole thing....or an exciting twist. I thought there was going to be something interesting to come out about Simone...but no.

purpleme12 · 23/02/2024 09:17

The Simone thing is weird.

She obviously didn't want to collude with Elliott about doing harm to Rachel and yet clearly it seemed she was ok with him putting cameras in her Tele to watch her.

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2024 12:04

I had the impression that Liam will become another Elliott because he didn't go to the posh school!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2024 14:58

Wonder how long Simone worked for Elliot

Long enough to know he wasn't quite right

Reminded me of the ' burning air' book by Erin Kelly where one of the characters was upset they didn't go to a posh school.
Although I am only guessing that Liam will end up like Elliott and murder someone !

ToffeeShocker · 23/02/2024 15:16

(Here I go with my as ifs) As if the ex wife would’ve gone to the house to warn her, she knew there were cameras everywhere, so why risk him attacking her?

And As if Liam would believe a bloke that had been in their lives a couple of months(?) over his mother especially when he saw the man attack his mother!

I did quite enjoy it though and I loved the bit where she got pulled out from under the car by her legs, that was quite exciting.

butterpuffed · 23/02/2024 15:19

It was left up in the air , will Liam become like Elliott or not ? How much compensation was Rachel offered and did she accept it ? Will Rachel ever set anyone else on fire ?!

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2024 15:30

Maybe it's been left open for another ' season ' as they say in America !
(Liam grows up to be Damion from The Omen and people start dying off !)

daffodilandtulip · 23/02/2024 19:53

I did enjoy it but it felt like a lot of build up to nothing much. I still don't understand the role of Simone. It's been left wide open for series 2 with the mad Liam wanting revenge on his mum. Maybe we'll find out she's a millionaire then as well.

purpleme12 · 23/02/2024 19:55

Agree it's been left a bit open but I can't really see a series 2 of this being commissioned, personally

the80sweregreat · 23/02/2024 19:58

If she was left enough money to send Liam to the nice school , then I doubt he'll do much to his mum tbh .
If it's enough for a small deposit on a house to buy but not enough for anything else , then he might play up or try and kill mum.
We may never know !

I too doubt there will be a second series . I was being facetious when I made my comments , it's just irritating when they don't tie up the loose ends and leave things open , but it is Channel 5 !

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2024 08:53

Yes no mention of her killing him

Tho guess if he hasn't of laced the house full of petrol he wouldn't have caught alight so quickly

I had to look away at the denouement. Fire scares me so much and I've been watching too much with violence in it of late.

Should anyone have the bright idea of a follow up series it wouldn't be for me. The characters are too two dimensional, although I did think Charlie is it? who played Liam, played his part well.

JMSA · 24/02/2024 11:29

I don't mean this at all bitchily, as she's beautiful and a good actress, but there's something about Kara's face that annoys me BlushSad
I try to put it out of my head and tell myself I'm being silly, but I can't help it.
I'm guessing it's just me!
