We love a ch 5 drama 😁

Too Good To Be True is a tense Channel 5 thriller starring Kara Tointon and Allen Leech.

Too Good To Be True is a four-part thriller that starts on Channel 5 on Wednesday February 14 2024 at 9pm, with the second episode on Thursday 15 February at the same time.

The series will then continue on Wednesday and Thursday the following week to finish on February 22 2024 .

Too Good To Be True is a Channel 5 thriller that sees Kara Tointon playing Rachel, a cash-strapped single mother who works all hours as a cleaner to give her son Liam a better life.

She’s thrilled when she lands a well-paid job for a wealthy client called Elliot, but when Elliot’s behaviour becomes increasingly controlling, Rachel digs into his past and discovers some dark and disturbing truths.

Downton Abbey star Allen Leech plays the secretive businessman Elliot while Cold Feet’s John Thomson is Rachel’s boss, Geoff.

Too Good To Be True follows Kara Tointon's character Rachel, a young, single mother who is constantly on the poverty line.

She works as a cleaner and one day her boss is approached by a businesswoman acting on behalf of a rich client called Elliot.

He’s a regular guest at the hotel where Rachel works and asks if Rachel can clean exclusively for him.

Rachel jumps at the chance, with the opportunity to work better hours and earn more cash proving too hard to resist.

Gradually though, Elliot’s behaviour towards Rachel and Liam raises red flags and Rachel starts to dig into his past, learning how Elliot’s childhood is the key to his obsession with her and her son.

Her first meeting with mysterious Elliot is when she is putting out some rubbish at the end of her shift and this figure pops out from behind some bins.

It’s just this passing guy who is looking after a stray kitten. She thinks that’s sweet but she’s late for her next stop, which is getting Liam to school.

Then this job opportunity comes up. She’s a bit flummoxed and a bit weirded out by it. Why her?

She arrives at this incredible mansion in a fairy-tale setting and wonders what the heck is going on.

She is now cleaning this huge, beautiful house and the guy she met a few days before is now this gorgeous Prince Charming as it were.

He’s seemingly very nice. He’s given her this shot. But she doesn’t know what to make of it. And then things start to unravel."

Did not enjoy at all
Was expecting more from Tom from Downton Abbey, and Kara Tointon had same pained expression throughout
Will not be returning to this

surfacedeamon · 15/02/2024 21:59

I’m invested enough to see where the story goes but the acting is really poor.

I blame you for this @Blondeshavemorefun
....this is total tosh, completely unbelievable and is winding me up even more than the Finders keepers nonsense but I feel compelled to watch!! 🤣🤣

@theresnoonequitelikegrandma

Happy to take all credit aka blame 😂

Am on 3rd episode, it's absolutely ridiculous. So many plot holes and things that don't make sense. She must be thick as two short planks to just accept everything that happens without questioning it. Plus are we in the 90's, surely you'd be straight on the internet finding out about him! The acting is a bit wooden as well. Bit of a shame.

theresnoonequitelikegrandma · 15/02/2024 22:52

I can't get over how nosy she is - rummaging through drawers and even trying on that dress on her first visit to the house!! 🤣

purpleme12 · 15/02/2024 23:02

John Thomson!

daffodilandtulip · 15/02/2024 23:06

Did he set up the break in so she would go running to him?
Has he set up a tracker on the kid's phone?
Does the PA woman know he's a baddy?

purpleme12 · 15/02/2024 23:12

Why did the need to consider referring it to the safeguarding team because he brought a mouse in that he found outside?!

I don't work Thursdays so apart from the weekly shop I bingewatched all four episodes. Load of codswallop!

Same here. Really rubbish. It had potential.

I think they said he tried to dissect it in class.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/02/2024 07:48

The plot thickens

Ddid his parents die in fire ?

Why is Simone cagey

Does he do this often ?

Silly woman sleeping with him

Assume he did the break in

Meant to say wed night about the dodgy tv and cameras in it

He's def weird and stalkerish

Trying to gain another step son ?

Two new dramas starting Monday. Hope they are much better than this series lol

Etincelle · 16/02/2024 11:30

I'm enjoying it so far. It was creepy when he was watching the little boy sleep at the end (forgotten his name.)
"After the Flood" on the other hand I gave up on after enjoying the first episode.

Comedycook · 16/02/2024 11:33

I'm quite enjoying it and I'm invested now so will keep going.

Lots of things which I think aren't quite right though...

I was shocked the son is meant to be 11...I thought he was meant to be much younger. Seems more like 7/8.

I don't think Kara Tointon is believable in that character...they've tried to make her look dowdy but it doesn't work because she's incredibly pretty....irl a woman who looks like that and is WC, well spoken and a single mum is far more likely to be working in high end retail, a beauty counter, a salon or doing office admin.

I'm the same, gave up on after the flood but am binge watching this!

Missfelinemoo · 16/02/2024 14:46

I'm wondering if Kara is the biological mum or if Irish guy is the biological dad or maybe I'm going off on weird tangents, lol.

Comedycook · 16/02/2024 16:14

I am also wondering what the deal is with Simone...his assistant

She says hadn't seen dad since baby was 6w old. No maintenance

I think he is looking a woman with no family

Kara's acting reminds me of Sheridan Smith at times.
I remember her in Eastenders as Dawn Swann

foxlover47 · 16/02/2024 23:25

I am not warming to Rachel
In this I don't know why , bring back Pauline @Blondeshavemorefun there are more than enough curtains for her to pop
Out from 😂😅

I didn't think they had tried to make her look dowdy!

I didn't realise Kara Tointon is the sister of the Tara from The Inbetweeners actress

the80sweregreat · 17/02/2024 08:40

Yeah, bring back Pauline and her curtains !..
I was reading online about a village in India when the residents are not allowed to have any doors on their houses or buildings because it would be cursed otherwise ! The loo / bathroom just had flimsy curtains ! Made me think about that drama with Sheridan.
Anyway, this was good but surely the bus fares for her and son would make a dent in her wages ? It seemed to be one bus , but most rural places would be two or a train at least ?
Although I'm not sure where she lived tbf.
It must be a good wage plus the house hardly needed anything done cleaning wise as it was
Couldn't creepy Simone run a duster round ?
