We love a ch 5 drama 😁

Too Good To Be True is a tense Channel 5 thriller starring Kara Tointon and Allen Leech.

Too Good To Be True is a four-part thriller that starts on Channel 5 on Wednesday February 14 2024 at 9pm, with the second episode on Thursday 15 February at the same time.

The series will then continue on Wednesday and Thursday the following week to finish on February 22 2024 .

Too Good To Be True is a Channel 5 thriller that sees Kara Tointon playing Rachel, a cash-strapped single mother who works all hours as a cleaner to give her son Liam a better life.

She’s thrilled when she lands a well-paid job for a wealthy client called Elliot, but when Elliot’s behaviour becomes increasingly controlling, Rachel digs into his past and discovers some dark and disturbing truths.

Downton Abbey star Allen Leech plays the secretive businessman Elliot while Cold Feet’s John Thomson is Rachel’s boss, Geoff.

Too Good To Be True follows Kara Tointon's character Rachel, a young, single mother who is constantly on the poverty line.

She works as a cleaner and one day her boss is approached by a businesswoman acting on behalf of a rich client called Elliot.

He’s a regular guest at the hotel where Rachel works and asks if Rachel can clean exclusively for him.

Rachel jumps at the chance, with the opportunity to work better hours and earn more cash proving too hard to resist.

Gradually though, Elliot’s behaviour towards Rachel and Liam raises red flags and Rachel starts to dig into his past, learning how Elliot’s childhood is the key to his obsession with her and her son.

Her first meeting with mysterious Elliot is when she is putting out some rubbish at the end of her shift and this figure pops out from behind some bins.

It’s just this passing guy who is looking after a stray kitten. She thinks that’s sweet but she’s late for her next stop, which is getting Liam to school.

Then this job opportunity comes up. She’s a bit flummoxed and a bit weirded out by it. Why her?

She arrives at this incredible mansion in a fairy-tale setting and wonders what the heck is going on.

She is now cleaning this huge, beautiful house and the guy she met a few days before is now this gorgeous Prince Charming as it were.

He’s seemingly very nice. He’s given her this shot. But she doesn’t know what to make of it. And then things start to unravel."

This is all a bit strange and they are too , Liam has a permanent traumatised look on his face .

I'm guessing Simone knows all about what's going on with Elliott . And didn't she mention that Rachel has something hidden in her past that she'd find out about ?

We need Pauline to come out from behind those curtains and tell us what's going on !

the80sweregreat · 17/02/2024 17:35

The main male actor is lovey looking
I didn't watch Downton Abbey so I haven't seen him in anything before
I heard Simone say something about her background as being a bit dodgy , maybe she isn't what she seems ? Just one of my guesses
I feel for Liam too , he looks permanently upset !

martinisforeveryone · 19/02/2024 21:19

I've managed to watch the first two episodes tonight. Was going for a third but it looks a bit creepy so I'm turning in early with my book instead.

All highly improbable so far, but am intrigued as to Simone's part.

ToffeeShocker · 19/02/2024 21:59

Just caught up with second episode - as if she’d go into the room when she heard the shower going and then stay there watching him in the nude!!! And as if she’d go in the house on her day off without asking him first.

I'm struggling with the fact there is zero chemistry with these two.

Comedycook · 20/02/2024 14:40

I binged watched it as couldn't wait anymore.... don't worry I won't give any spoilers. Looking forward to everyone finishing watching it as there's so much I want to say!!

Does what you want to say all start with “As if…” 🤣

Someone needs to start a spoiler thread
At least it's only four episodes long and not six or eight , so that's good

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2024 15:39

Come on @the80sweregreat you can hold restraint till thur when we all have seen 😂😂

But agree no chemistry at all. I don't get the fixation at all

I’m on ep. 2.
She really should know that a house like that will have security cameras everywhere 🙄
How could he have hacked her new tv to spy on them at home?

martinisforeveryone · 20/02/2024 16:17

Well he’s White Knighting a la Pygmalion or Pretty Woman - very big Ish on the ends of those. But Liam complicates the picture. She’s wary, but she’s a woman who’s never been able to catch a break before. I keep wondering how you know where to start cleaning that house. Luckily there doesn’t seem to be any clutter, laundry or washing up 😁

Yes, I have jumped ahead, but I’ve still got a list of things to catch up on 🫣

the80sweregreat · 20/02/2024 17:54

I will say it's a beautiful house and normally in these type of dramas the big houses are very soulless , but this one seems homely ( despite its size )

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2024 15:24

E3 tonight

What is he hiding

He must be too good to be true !!!

It is a beautiful property, although the main bedroom seems a bit understated.
Hard to believe there'd only usually be three people there though. You'd expect a housekeeper and gardener at the least. I sit and wonder about the people who live there in real life.

There seems to have been a plethora of psychological thrillers lately where the protagonist is mega wealthy with the most impressive home, but hardly seems to work. Given that and given the title, and the saying 'if it seems like it's too good to be true, it usually is' I think there's a very high chance he's a wrong un.

Jellykat · 21/02/2024 19:27

Just finished 1 & 2, so is she not wondering what happened to his wife and son??
Plus, shes sleeping in the part of the house that were off limits when she arrived, AND boy were they dusty, now hes suddenly letting them stay in there and its lovely and clean Hmm .. think i'd be thinking eh? if i were her!

OiGetOff · 21/02/2024 20:00

Hmm. Not sure I’m gripped, but I’ll probably see it through.

I thought the actor playing Liam was great though.

OiGetOff · 21/02/2024 20:02

Oh and can someone explain the Pauline stuff please?? I did find its origin once, but it’s now fallen out of my brain.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2024 20:09

In one of the ch 5 dramas - there was a lady sitting hiding behind a curtain. Called Pauline

It just really tickled us. So we mention it if it's a good drama - or a bad drama 😂

Pauline was an icon !!!

This is really poor the further in it gets. 40 minutes in and nothing has happened really.

duc748 · 21/02/2024 21:47

Just reading the thread to see if this is worth bothering with. The consensus seems to be no, and that's good enough for me! 😀
