I wonder how difficult the process is to get on the show?!! Would be a dream.

martinisforeveryone · 22/01/2024 15:59

It's so hard to judge I think, because if we see people being all likeable, affable and innocent, we judge them as naïve or even a bit thick, unless we happen to see a private piece to camera. And I think you have to display some personality because otherwise, if you're like Anthony and go purely on logic, then you risk the others judging you as a Traitor. In a game like this, being simply analytical means you miss out on the quirks that lead people to do the things they do, or how the majority can be swept along against their judgement if they were more sceptical.

I'm quite interested in Evie at the moment. She seems to thinking more deeply but keeping her powder dry and to a certain extent, people lumping her together with Charlie may have kept the heat off her.

My theory of why they don't want to see Harry as a traitor is that he is seen as a 'leader', hunting out faithfuls and one of the strongest among them. Also his job - no one likes to believe that someone has a seemingly 'selfless' job could be a traitor. Which is ridiculous of course as none of them chose to be a traitor!
Jaz is doing well in looking at everyone objectively. He isn't look at the personality but just logically who chose who and who said what. It's surely the only way to play the game.

but they decided jonny (was that his name) was a traitor.

I saw Diane, in an interview, say that it was approximately a three-month application process. Several rounds of interviews etc. Definitely worth applying if you're interested. Would you want to be a traitor or a faithful?

FruitBowlCrazy · 22/01/2024 16:25

I'd sooner be a traitor than a faithful, I think. Probably wouldn't last long though.

MaggieFS · 22/01/2024 16:27

I think it would be fun to have a crack at being a traitor, but if I really wanted the money, I'd be better off being a faithful.

NonPlayerCharacter · 22/01/2024 16:27

It's easy to think you'd rather be a Traitor but it gets more stressful, I think. You have to start answering questions about why you're still there and the other traitors will almost certainly turn on you.

commonground · 22/01/2024 16:30

I think the game playing would be fun but unless you're an influencer/social media savvy/fame chaser I think the stuff around your personal life would be grim.

I mean more fool you if your insta is open, so you can see Jaz 'jetting off' to 'the likes of' New York. or inside Paul's 'lavish' man cave (basement with a TV, complete with 'large grey mug').... You would need to be pretty resilient and quite good at your own PR to enjoy that.

But yeah, if they are happy to entertain me, I am very happy to be a spectator and shout at the TV!

Yeah, I'm very content to maintain my current role in the game, as an observer/spectator 😊

FruitBowlCrazy · 22/01/2024 16:43

I'd be crap at the physical challenges anyway. 😂

Agree. I wish there was a ‘tritors holiday’ I could go on to play the game with strangers for a week in a country manor but without being filmed and put on tv.

I just wanna play the mind games 😃 I don’t wanna be on tv.

Poetic justice. Absolutely. The way he turned on Alyssa and Amanda was low. They were better traitors. Neither were suspected for ages, and they had his back and covered for him loads. He used them and ditched them at will. He didn't deserve to win.
Yay Kieron! My favourites left early on though. I loved Ivan.
Really hope Kaz and Zach stay till the end this year. My two favourites I think.

@Ruminate2much Re Alyssa, Tom was convinced she was a traitor. He said later in an interview that offscreen, when drunk, the cast played a game in the bar where they were doing imitations of Claudia. And in Alyssa’s impression of Claudia she said “Hellooo Traitors” and Tom thought hm I’ve never heard Claudia say that, but I have heard her say “Hellooo Faithfuls…” so after that moment he was sure about Alyssa. He brings it up a few times on screen to her.

Agree Ivan was fab I was really sorry he didn’t win. I love the show but the worst thing about it is that the cleverest people all get kicked out early and the clueless ones get kept to the end. It was ridiculous that Hannah and Meryl got a share of the prize money for doing sod all.

laclochette · 22/01/2024 17:03

I've finally got into the show after a million friends begging me and am now obsessed! Have only watched S2 up to the latest episode, not watched S1 yet.

What a total treat it is for armchair psychologists!

One of the most fascinating things about it is that it shows how easily we ALL are swayed by emotional experiences rather than rational analysis. As others have said, Jaz is being really rational and analytical about it and picked up on the biggest factual clues correctly, like Paul's mysterious sparing in the dungeon. But because his personality is harder to like than others, eg Paul, it took so long for people to agree with him.

One thing that everyone keeps doing which makes me yell at the screen is describing things that they just found unlikable as "traitor behaviour". Sometimes when it literally makes no logical sense - ie Diane mentioning Ant's behaviour to her in the initial lineup as the sort of thing that made her think he was a traitor, when at that point in the show, nobody even knew if they were designated a traitor or not! It just goes to show how much people are judging by "do I find this person nice and likeable" rather than "are their actions aligning around a certain intention". The latter is almost impossible to judge, which is what makes it so hard - Traitors and Faithfuls basically want to achieve the same things, just to opposite ends - which is perhaps why people clutch at emotional biases so much - but I do think that we all do that in life and that's one of the things the show sheds a light on that is so fascinating.

I did wonder if they do any kind of health check. Some of the challenges are pretty punishing and you wouldn’t want someone suddenly getting seriously ill.

They must do, for insurance purposes as much as anything. Can you imagine the risk assessment paperwork?! Ye Gods.

MaggieFS · 22/01/2024 17:10

They must have a health check. It would be shit if they had I'm a celeb style medical exemptions.

There are usually less physical roles in most tasks and things like none swimmers are catered for.

Although I never watched Big Brother, my understanding is that the first series wasn't the sensationalist, sadistic trash fest that it later became. Apparently it was a genuinely interesting social experiment that hadn't really been done before like this.

Honestly, there are some parts of Traitors that have made me uncomfortable so I hope it doesn't go the same way in an effort to keep it fresh. So far, though, I think all contestants say it has been a positive experience.

The first season of BB was great, season two was even better but it became a case of rapidly diminishing returns after that.

Ruminate2much · 22/01/2024 17:21

@Ellysetta ah, I didn't realise that re Tom and Alyssa.
Yeah, some really interesting characters that we didn't get to see enough of, as they left too early, by fair means or foul... Mostly foul!
Though, this season there are still some great interesting faithfuls left, including Zach and Jaz.
I actually was happy for the three winners last year. I realise their victory was more due to accident than design; but they were goodies, in the classic sense of the word, and all made good use of the money I'm sure.

Autumngirl7 · 22/01/2024 17:23

I would want to be a traitor for sure !!!

AddieLoggins2 · 22/01/2024 17:27

If I was a traitor I would love to determine who was being murdered by some arbitrary means, like alphabetical or by the order the pictures are hung on the wall at breakfast.

Initially the faithful would tie themselves in knots trying to work out why someone random had been killed. And then when they did work it out they would know who was going to go next and be powerless to stop it. While also knowing that it wouldn't offer any clues as to who the traitors are!

The only problem is it wouldn't be great TV because viewers would know who was going to be in the final - or at least, who would not be murdered before the final.
And, more importantly, I can't work out what arbitrary measure I could use that would mean the traitors could be skipped without it being obvious that they must be the traitors! Confused

@laclochette re Jaz, I think he’s just as likeable as Paul, more so actually, Jaz is so sweet, but people don’t listen to him for some reason. Don’t wanna make the thread heavy but I think it’s racism to be honest. If a tall white man was saying the things Jaz (or Anthony) said, they’d be listened to. I’ve watched far too much reality tv over the last few years and it’s become very noticeable that the mixed race people in a white majority group often get voted out very quickly, followed by the less attractive or older women, and the gay guys. 😐 I doubt Jasmine will be in the final, but hope I’m wrong. It isn’t something I used to notice but my DC has a black friend and I’ve been helping out with the class at school and it’s amazing how often people, including the teachers, don’t seem to hear a word the black child says despite her being very articulate and lovely. It’s like she’s invisible sometimes. Very sad.

Anyway sorry to get depressing. Perhaps Jaz’s invisibility will help him last until the final! Hope so! (Bet it doesn’t though.)

ChatBFP · 22/01/2024 17:51

@Ellysetta

Depressingly, I do wonder this myself.

I really like Jaz, and I think he is absolutely the most rational and analytical there. I do think that aside from racism, he also suffers from being quite close to Zak, who is this season's Maddy, even when he is right.

I like jasmine too - to be fair, many players have mentioned how clever she is as a possible "traitor" characteristic, so I think she is admired.

I would most want to be allied to Jaz or Jasmine, as I see them as very rational - I'm autistic and I usually find in an any crowd that I often identify with people who are straight talking outliers though!

Stowickthevast · 22/01/2024 17:55

I think a key part of the game is being part of the clique. If you're in the periphery, you're more likely to get voted out or murdered. It's probably harder for Jaz to infiltrate the group than someone like Zach who's also coming out with theories but seems to be accepted by them. I think it probably is unconscious bias where you're automatically drawn to people who look more like you or have a similar background. This year particularly we have seen white alpha males - Paul & Harry - setting the agenda.

Interestingly, I don't think this happens as much in the US version, so do wonder if US TV at least is further down the road to equality than UK TV.

At the weekend I read Meryl and Arron had used their winnings to quit their jobs and becoming influencegrs, which I’m not sure is a great use of the money, but what do I know?
