I 100% agree with this. Having had a quick Google re his accident and recovery, the strength and determination he would have needed to overcome his injuries, I think we are underestimating his abilities and doing him a great injustice.

Completely agree with this. Andrew is no fool!

wubwubwub · 22/01/2024 11:07

ah, yes - because they couldn't have him refuse and there only be 1 traitor, if the last traitor got banished, there'd be no 'peril' for the viewer - no tension etc - So they absolutely need a traitor in the end game to make good TV?

Yes, I reckon that's it 👍

crabbyoldbat · 22/01/2024 11:51

RE Miles and the chalice being unfair - it looked like it took them bloody ages to find the chalice - if they hadn't been running around like headless chickens and faffing so much they would have had much more time to be subtle about it. I mean, they even had to make time to unobtrusively go and find Paul to help in the search. Even with editing, it must have take a while.

NonPlayerCharacter · 22/01/2024 12:02

It may have been out of sequence editing (I expect there's a lot of that), but I'm sure Diane said there was no wine left before they found the chalice, or at least before she was offered some. Wonder what happened there.

Riverlee · 22/01/2024 12:11

crabbyoldbat · 21/01/2024 23:48

I think Charlotte was saving face about knowing Paul was a traitor, and really didn't have a clue

Me too. I think she was bluffing also.

It was explained - someone walked in and said "they've brought more wine".

Finally caught up with this!
Missed series 1 first time round so have binge watched that and have just caught up on series 2 😅

I think it's really good TV. Even my other half is into it and he generally despises any sort of reality TV!

I'd like Mollie or Jas to win. Did think Harry would win until the last couple of episodes, I think he's a bit too cocky now and things will unravel for him.

I'm worried about how obsessed I've become with Traitors! I'm not normally a telly addict at all. Didn't have a telly for years. But, Traitors is addictive. So glad to be able to indulge my guilty pleasure here! 🤭

Likewise with the obsession. Normally, wild horses wouldn't drag me into a chair to watch any reality tv type programme, but this time, I just so happened to be on my own in the house, had watched the programme that was immediately before it, and then realised I'd dropped the remote and couldn't reach it because I had a sleeping cat on my lap who I didn't want to disturb. So I just watched it, thinking 'oh this is going to be shit' and ended up totally hooked!

NonPlayerCharacter · 22/01/2024 14:30

Although I never watched Big Brother, my understanding is that the first series wasn't the sensationalist, sadistic trash fest that it later became. Apparently it was a genuinely interesting social experiment that hadn't really been done before like this.

Honestly, there are some parts of Traitors that have made me uncomfortable so I hope it doesn't go the same way in an effort to keep it fresh. So far, though, I think all contestants say it has been a positive experience.

IGotItFromAgnes · 22/01/2024 14:58

I remember the first series of Big Brother and it really was radically different from what it’s become. Much better before all the contestants were using it to try and kick start media careers. I also hope The Traitors won’t go the same way - it’s much more interesting when people are there because they want to play the game.

FruitBowlCrazy · 22/01/2024 15:08

I have never watched Big Brother. The only time I have ever paid it the slightest attention was when I once had to take dc to some tv studios or other for something, at Elstree I think it was, and there were a load of security guards hanging around. There was some sort of compound in the distance with big lighting gantries all round it, and I asked one of the staff what all the security was for. Turned out it was the Big Brother House. 😂

😂 I can't pinpoint what it is about it that I find so captivating. Some kind of alchemy they're working on us at the beeb!

Ruminate2much · 22/01/2024 15:18

The Ross avenging his mum from the inside, is Shakespearean perfection!
It could be a Princess Bride-esque moment - "My name is Ross, you killed my mother, prepare to die!"

NonPlayerCharacter · 22/01/2024 15:19

The frame story is really good. You can get very into the idea of traitors, murderers and banishments, especially when it's so atmospheric, yet so camp.

martinisforeveryone · 22/01/2024 15:28

@Ruminate2much if you haven't already seen it, this Ivan Brett on X: "The Traitors UK Season 2 cast, but they're all Shakespeare characters... a🧵... #TheTraitors t.co/eDGVxpMbna" / X (twitter.com) has your name all over it 😀

It's interesting that by and large in the Australian first series, players' reactions to unmasking a traitor were of the well-played, you really got me, type and on the British one it's more you bastard, I thought you were my friend, I trusted you 100%

I know you can't know for sure unless you're put in that situation and I know it's human nature to seek out friendships especially when you're away from home and everything you know, but I'd like to think, if I played as a faithful, I'd work from the position of assuming absolutely everyone else was a Traitor. I suppose that wouldn't preclude me from voicing that I 'loved' other players and knew 100% that they never could be a Traitor 😈 So many seem to actually believe that though.

The two Australian series are brilliant, they're lower budget than UK and have annoying loud music and constant ad-break cliffhangers but they're still hilariously fab. The US one left me cold.

Ruminate2much · 22/01/2024 15:33

Ooh @martinisforeveryone no, I hadn't seen that. I'll check it out.

Yes, for me I think, the atmosphere is a big factor in its appeal. I love the very camp theatre of it all too...

I remember the first Big Brother series, and yes, it was a totally new TV concept and a very interesting social experiment - very different from the show it evolved into (which I now can't stand). And I'm fairly sure the original bushtucker trials in IACGMOOH were nothing like as disgusting and outrageous as they became. I hope Traitors doesn't go the same way - this year's cabin challenge was certainly a step up from last year's, what with the smelly tunnels and the unnecessary toads. I hope they continue to focus on the psychology and mind games in future, and keep the yuk factor to a minimum!

FruitBowlCrazy · 22/01/2024 15:45

Me too. But I wouldn't tell them that, obviously. You want everyone else to believe you are as honest as the day is long, slightly gullible, and relatively easy to hoodwink. Come to think of it, that's how I'd play as a traitor as well.😂

mewkins · 22/01/2024 15:45

My theory of why they don't want to see Harry as a traitor is that he is seen as a 'leader', hunting out faithfuls and one of the strongest among them. Also his job - no one likes to believe that someone has a seemingly 'selfless' job could be a traitor. Which is ridiculous of course as none of them chose to be a traitor!
Jaz is doing well in looking at everyone objectively. He isn't look at the personality but just logically who chose who and who said what. It's surely the only way to play the game.

Ruminate2much · 22/01/2024 15:46

@martinisforeveryone funnily enough, Ivan was one of my favourites in last year's series, which for me was only a few days ago, as I'm a very recent convert to the world of The Traitors.
I was sorry he was banished so early on.

Autumngirl7 · 22/01/2024 15:53

So here’s my theory ! Ross and Harry will be bannished …leaving Andrew who may recruit or can be remain a single traitor? I feel he or Mollie will win !

I'm not sure how I'd play it.
I actually couldn't be a traitor. I'd be rubbish. I'm very guilt-prone, and that would get the better of me.
So, I'd have to be a faithful. But, no idea how I'd approach it? I guess I'd try to assess my fellow players first and adjust my game plan, or lack thereof, accordingly. No idea though really. Other than just being myself, and endlessly assuring my fellows that I'm '100% faithful' etc. I don't think I'd want to play. Too stressful. Very happy to be an observer 😊
