I ahve the 1985 version of Marguerite Patten's All Colour cookery

I have no idea how much tinned mince costs - but presumably M&S is rarely a budget option. Why did your Mum use tinned? Just so she could follow Delia?

Kewcumber · 19/03/2008 13:23

I think she just thought she'd try the recipe. It was nice -don't care what you all think [yah boo sucks emoticon] I assume tinned mince includes gravy so easier.

Bewilderbeast · 19/03/2008 14:02

Has Delia actually eaten any of the things she's cooked on screen? I'm pretty sure she hasn't but I could be being blinkered. It just all looks so revolting and you would have to have a large disposable income in order to be able to afford to cook like that. I think I'd rather eat a McHoof burger than eat that Spag Bol.

moondog · 19/03/2008 14:03

guffaw aT 'Machoof'

Carmenere · 19/03/2008 14:11

A friend knows someone who has been to Delias house socially and said that the G&T's were huge and that the fridge was full of ready meals. this was a while ago so I presumed it was pure rumour or shit-stirring but now, well........

Overrun · 19/03/2008 17:05

You will never doubt that friend again Carmenere

welliemum · 19/03/2008 22:52

The thing that's really puzzling me about all this is WHY?

Here's Delia, all set to bring us a rerun of the seventies with elaborate dishes constructed from overprocessed ingredients. But she's (I'm fairly sure) old enough to have done all this the first time round.

So why does she want to do it a second time fgs? I don't plan to do it even once.

Carmenere · 19/03/2008 23:02

It is a cynical exercise in making money, she has sponsorship deals with the companies whose products she is pushing using.

SueBaroo · 19/03/2008 23:03

I am definitely going with the suggestion that it was a bet to prove that she could create a shortage of anything.

On that basis, I'm glad she didn't decide to branch out into recommending Tenalady.

Twinklemegan · 19/03/2008 23:05

I just thought you might as well open a jar of Dolmio. I can't see the difference except for a lot more faffing doing it Delia's way.

Btw, what's with all the churchy stuff and the mum who's proud of the speeding ticket. Methinks Delia ran out of things to do with tinned mince.

SueBaroo · 19/03/2008 23:09

Well, she has written religious books before now. I have a friend who loves her (I think) advent one. [mildly perturbed]

Twinklemegan · 19/03/2008 23:10

It's just such an odd mix. One of the strangest programmes I've seen in a long long time.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 19/03/2008 23:10

how long does it take to cook mince fgs is spag bol not a quick and easy meal anyway?who knew you could get mince in a tin

takeittothelimit · 19/03/2008 23:40

I noticed on the Tesco online grocery shopping them advertising her new book with a link to the products that tesco are selling to make the recipes.
