by the time you've brought the water to boiling and coooked the pasta you could have cooked proper stuff!

dragonbutter · 19/03/2008 00:00

Yes, she does, i can see them.
Don't forget to let me out in the morning.

Tinker · 19/03/2008 00:01

Oh aitch, you sound like my partner . He does little jars of prepared peppers for just such moments. Have used sausages as you say in some sort of pasta and cream and dijon mustard (or that grainy one) affair. Was nice, and I'm not really a pasta fan but will go with the flow

welliemum · 19/03/2008 00:02

It sounds lovely, except what is a snag? Is this some sort of quaint Scots dialect?

welliemum · 19/03/2008 00:05

Aaaaarrrr, is a sausage, I understand now.

Agree, lovely, and so is Tinker's one of cream and mustard.

davidtennantsmistress · 19/03/2008 00:11

not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but all her 'ready stuff' is from M&S - I mean I thought is was quick easy & cheap meals - how many people can honestly say they can afford to buy food from M&S?

my mince is from the butcher along with the rest of the meat.

spag bolg is done in about 20 mins half hour ish, but cottage pie/mince meat roast is done in the oven and cooked for approx 2 hours. it's yummy. should anyone point me in the direction of a blooming fantastic tom sauce for the spag bolg it would be appreciated as i'm sure the tescos own jar I use has lots of crap in it.

Scramble · 19/03/2008 00:16

If I am doing spag bol I use tin of tomatoes, tomoato puree and a bit of lea an perrins. Add onions, peppers and garilc yummy.

I cook for min 1hr, agree some of previous generations did used to do it for ages but ehy are the same ones that bils veg until almost pureed and all that.

Is it jusyt me or does Jamie Oliver look like a big 4yr old going to nursery , I do love his style of cooking though,

Aitch · 19/03/2008 00:35

my sister does a great version of the sausage thing with cream, sage, a splash of vermouth and roast butternut squash.

chipmonkey · 19/03/2008 01:01

I could not believe my eyes when I saw her with the canned mince! It reminds my of a book my Mum had in the 70's or early 80's, "The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook" which had so many horrible convenience foods in it!
She probably is in competition with Nigella but I think even if Nigella cheats, it is along the lines of using ready-made pancakes for Crepes Suzette, rather than making one's own and that isn't really so bad, a pancake is a pancake after all.
It really seems that Delia has taken all the love out of it.

welliemum · 19/03/2008 01:17

LOL at "The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook", I can just imagine.

If it was 70s rather than 80s, no doubt it also had those weird colour photos where all the food was brown, except for the pineapple slices which were green.

I know this because my parents have a huge collection of 70s cookbooks. Only for use by people wearing caftans. [wince]

chipmonkey · 19/03/2008 01:32

Yes, welliemum and chicken preserved in aspic for all eternity!

Twiglett · 19/03/2008 07:01

am I wrong to feel that Aitch's "
any fule kno that dragon's milk is blue, iota." should be quote of the week

SoupDreggon · 19/03/2008 09:45

Except, Twiglett, that I've breastfed and expressed and I can assure you it's white

Aitch · 19/03/2008 09:55

you know, soupy, it's when you say things like that that i begin to suspect you aren't actually a dragon...

Habbibu · 19/03/2008 10:00

Aitch - your sausage meatball recipe is identical to one my friend makes. Are you in some West End recipe-swapping club, eh?

Soupy - perhaps it's your broth-like qualities which change the colour of your milk?

[smoke curls from nostrils]

Aitch · 19/03/2008 10:02

actually habs, i just realised i missed half a can of borlotti beans from my recipe. my sister's one is better but not as QUICK.

Aitch · 19/03/2008 10:03

put that cigarette OUT, soupdragon.

TsarChasm · 19/03/2008 10:05

I bet this is all heading in one inevitable direction. A range of frozen Delia meals. Betcha.

Carmenere · 19/03/2008 10:14

On the nail Tsarchasm, I would be very suprised if we don't see some Delia branded shite convenience foods in the near future.

I am so, so disappointed in her I just feel like she has let the general public down really badly. She carries alot of clout with the general public and she has a responsibility to the people that made her rich and she has just stuck her fingers up at them for the sake of money. For all the overweight, under-nourished children and all the financialy fucked small farmers and all the intensively reared and tortured animals, I am really, really disappointed with her.

Habbibu · 19/03/2008 10:15

Aitch, you are truly a bean-freak.

Habbibu · 19/03/2008 10:16

Carm - did you hear her on the radio "I can't get involved with politics, I'm just a cook". Don't vote then, eh, Delia?

Aitch · 19/03/2008 10:19

how christian...

moondog · 19/03/2008 10:21

The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook was the tome that sparked my enduring love with all matters culinary.

It was (is) a kitsch classic.

Habbibu · 19/03/2008 10:26

Aitch, was that in reference to my "bean-freak" comment? I wasn't suggesting that you actually worship beans (but if the cap fits, lady). And I of course would not judge if you did prostrate yourself at the Church of the Holy Pulse. Oh no.
