I've been looking forward to this so much. Especially after the massive cliff hanger it was left on. I knew through interviews he's done that it didn't pick up in Australia again, but I'm disappointed so far. I can't seem to get into it and it seems so grey. Maybe I need to leave it and come back to it.

I thought the last 2 episodes were awful. Far too long in the coma dream. The secret at the bottom of the sea was anticlimactic. The chemistry was non-existent. The Garda subplot added nothing apart from a bizarre obstacle to Helen’s investigation. The Gang leads were laughably bad. We enjoyed series 1, tolerated the first half of series 2 and persevered out of a sense of completeness. We’ll not bother with the inevitable series 3.

I found the relationship a weak point tbh

thought the comedy ex was great and so welcome for some light relief. I loved when he mansplained mansplaining. I thought the weaving in of him lecturing toxic masculinity while still making the same mistakes was funny and tied in nicely with the more subtle situation of the father and grandfather of the young boy trying to mould him to be just like them and their version of what a man should be when he was actually quite a gentle soul, which is how toxic masculinity perpetuates.

Very well said!

I've just finished it - loved it! Totally bonkers but really enjoyed the dark humour although it makes Ireland look horrendous (which it's not!)

Agree with the PP who said the more Helen is onscreen, the more beautiful she is - totally true & her and Elliot make a very convincing couple!

So was that it last night?!

Paul2023 · 23/01/2024 16:17

I’m just watched 2 episodes. It’s been two years since since series 1 hasn’t it ?

Far fetched but watchable.

blobby10 · 24/01/2024 21:06

Watching the first episode - not sure if I will rush to watch the second 🤔🤔🤔why didn’t Elliot run into the trees or hide in the scrub rather than running along a clear track? Where did the island come from? Where are the scuba divers going to/from? Will This be explained? Xx

Cheesecake53 · 25/01/2024 08:58

@blobby10 Yes, the diving to the ship will be explained. I found the series started slow but got better and better (though I fast-forwarded through certain dream scenes). I hope there will be a third series!

Seaoftroubles · 25/01/2024 18:01

Dark, funny, at times really daft, and made lreland look like the Wild West.
But Danielle Mcdonald (Helen) is very watchable and Jamie Dornan can do no wrong in my eyes!

FiFTM · 25/01/2024 23:11

A lot of spoilers in this post FYI! I really enjoyed S1 but found S2 to be a poor offering. The accents really bugged me, they were from literally all over the country, but for some reason they gave his mam a matching NI accent to him, though neither apparently are from there??! I get that people from abroad might not notice but I would find it hard if for example a drama based in the UK tried to pass off a Mancunian or Yorkshire accent on an actor playing a born and bred cockney geezer... Aside from that, the writing was so poor in so many places, the plot twists were all over the gaff and often poorly executed... I mean, 3 characters finding out that their dad isn't their real dad FFS 😂 The comedic timing was hit and miss but did sometimes work. Overall disappointing but I still want a third season because I just love Jamie dornan, esp using his real accent, even if it makes no sense 😂

duc748 · 26/01/2024 00:14

i think it's fair to say that quality wise, S2 is worse than S1, but daft as it is, I'm sticking with it cos it's fun.

BigGrandpa · 29/01/2024 15:06

Despite the charismatic leads series 2, in comparison to the superb series 1, is a big disappointment. After a promising start it began to flag in episode 4 and episodes 5 (in particular) and 6 were poor. If there is to be a third series the writers really need to up their game.

HollyBerri · 11/02/2024 22:49

Ive just binged s1 & 2 and loved both. I enjoyed the daftness of the 2nd series and thought Ethan & Rhuraih made a great pair.

theconfidenceofwho · 11/02/2024 23:45

I agree @HollyBerri

Signalbox · 18/02/2024 08:09

I thought season 2 was rubbish. Partly due to the relationship between JD and DMc having zero chemistry making all their dialogue and interaction feel a bit awkward and cringy. It felt like the relationship was introduced as a way to keep both actors in the series rather than there being a genuine attraction. Also the Helen character completely lost her personality in S2 and just became whiny and annoying which was frustrating because she’d been such a strong lead in S1.

Mumstheword37 · 19/02/2024 22:41

I absolutely loved season one and rewatched it again to refresh my memory before starting season 2. Forced myself to stock with it because at times it was irritating and silly. But glad I did. I wouldn’t recommend season 2 but loved season one.

Mumstheword37 · 19/02/2024 23:42

That said I do keep thinking about the ending and think they will surely make a season 3 from that ending and I’ll have to watch it 😂

Croffle · 26/02/2024 08:58

I have no qualms whatsoever about not casting a size 8 as the female lead. I just wish they chose someone who could bloody well act!
