I don’t get why people think she would have seen ghosts everywhere else? Isn’t the link that it’s her ancestral home? Throughout the series she’s never seen other ghosts when out shopping etc (Or at least I don’t think it’s ever been mentioned)

Of course she did. 2 dead pilots outside a house viewing, a dead woman pushing a pram on a high street, a soldier on a walk with Lucy, the dead doctor when she thinks she's going mad - and that's what I can remember off the top of my head

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2023 21:33

Never been mentioned via shops

Tho they would have been funny seeing ghosts at Aldi

Just when looking at new houses to move to

And the doctors

And man in field

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2023 21:33

She sees them as she was tech dead for a while

dapsnotplimsolls · 29/12/2023 21:34

Those pilots 😔

Floralnomad · 29/12/2023 21:35

She also saw the dead hitchhiker when she was trying to get home on the night of the burglary .

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2023 22:21

Just rewatched the Xmas camping man one

They look so young there but only a few years ago

Unsure how a poster has missed that she sees ghosts wherever she goes.

I mean we don't see her out and about really but when we have she's seen...

A Victorian nanny on the street on the way back from hospital
The dr
A man waving through a window and the dead pilots when house viewing
One ghost in their field and one when walking with her sister.
The hitchhiker girl

I'm not sure she's seen any in the neighbours house but in the American version there are 2.

Probably even more.

LunaNorth · 30/12/2023 16:44

I’ve just rewatched the last ever, and it’s better on the second watch.

I also gave the USA version another chance, and it’s not too awful, once you let go of the memories of the original.

dapsnotplimsolls · 30/12/2023 17:50

I'm giving the US one another go and I'm enjoying it.

theconfidenceofwho · 30/12/2023 18:05

I really enjoy the US version too but agree it's best to not think about the original. Don't compare, just enjoy it for what it is.

PuttingDownRoots · 01/01/2024 14:28

Watched last night.
Loved last few minutes.

I still want a UK/US crossover episode... either Mike and Alison visiting the US Hotel, ot the US couple visiting Button House.

When you say ‘original’…
There is a very similar series that was on way earlier.

I've never heard of that show @YouRatBastard but happy to be corrected in using the word original.

Saucery · 01/01/2024 17:16

And not forgetting the true ‘original’, The Ghosts Of Motley Hall!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2024 21:59

I may try the USA version

But didn't like shameless USA

But loved shameless

dapsnotplimsolls · 01/01/2024 22:59

Give it 2 or 3 episodes.

I wouldn't bother.

They're trying too hard to be funny.

Difficult to bond with the characters.

There's a few giggles throughout the whole thing, but not enough that's worth wasting your time over.

Loved that programme when I was a kid. And yes, from what I can recall, many similarities to Ghosts.

whosaidtha · 03/01/2024 20:57

Agree with the people who said it makes no sense as she sees ghosts everywhere. She tried to move out before and kept seeing them in all the new houses. Why would she change her mind? Be much better if the ghosts just decided to only live in a couple of rooms. Just didn't seem in character for Alison or Mike.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/01/2024 22:48

Unless she saw new ghosts in a house and ignored them so they didn't know she could see them

Or bough new build and no ghosts at home

OP posts:
DontBeAPrickDarren · 03/01/2024 23:16

The point wasn’t that she could see the ghosts, was it? It was that they were interfering in how they raised the baby and wouldn’t be able to stop themselves from doing so into the future.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 04/01/2024 00:26

Well it was very early days, and presumably Alison wasn’t able to have a proper talk with the ghosts to set boundaries because of the constant presence of her MIL; and was projecting the irritation caused by her MIL onto the ghosts, with whom she had a close and candid and trusting enough relationship to tell them to sod off if they were getting on her nerves. Nor did she get a chance to see how nice it might actually have been having them around. The entire MIL plot device was precisely to prevent what the entire previous BBC series had set up: a situation where Alison would be bereft without the ghosts and had welcomed them into her heart and home as family, and would extend that welcome to them as people in her child’s life too.
