Krishna's tweet was lovely and what a decent person Lauren is, working in a care home during lockdown. I liked her and now I like her more.

MavisMcMinty · 12/11/2023 22:33

Angela R reminded me of the Night King in Game of Thrones, with her iced hair and pleather. And the slippy slide at the end of her dance - didn’t she do that first time round too?

Feels like the cast is really thinning out now. Just seven left, shit, Christmas must be nearly upon us.

Clawdy · 12/11/2023 22:41

Yes, it felt very staged tonight, right up to Shirley pretending she'd have chosen Krishnan. Just want to see Angela R go now.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 12/11/2023 22:51

I don't think Shirley was pretending, I think they'd all have chosen Krishnan if they'd not been told not to. She was the only one able to give an honest vote.

You'll see her go next Saturday at Blackpool, on a high. That was the plan all along :)

ilovesooty · 12/11/2023 22:54

Craig's speech defending his choice of Angela was absurd and he surely knew it.

PantsToItAll · 12/11/2023 22:56

Just watched the DO dances again to spot slip. It would have been a horrible fall is Kai didn’t save her. He’s really earning his salary this series as she looks like a tricky character.

Bit gutted K has gone as he was so joyful although I was starting to cringe about how much he got out of dancing and how it’s apparently changed his whole life and made him happiest ever been 🙄 Honesty if I was his wife listening to that I’d be a bit gutted.

Hope this isn’t bad form but I also agree with prior posters from earlier in last thread that personal opinions are okay but more official poling like was mentioned (“entertainment” was it?) are a bit spoilery. I definitely didn’t get that surprise at this weeks DO or result.

Anyway roll on Blackpool. Thought Bobby’s repeated comments about it being a bouncy floor were slightly odd. Also agree his mention of a bed sharer wasn’t off the chuff but deliberate. Calling Layton scoring first 40 of series if he’s got couples choice although I’d like it to have been Ellie to get the first 40.

BlackpoolintheSixties · 12/11/2023 23:00

I’ve read in several places that Blackpool is so significant because Come Dancing used to be filmed there.

But I don’t think it was, maybe the final of each series was but weren’t heats filmed in different places around the country? Can anyone confirm?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2023 23:08

Come Dancing moved around. They were showing some on BBC4 in March (?) and they were definitely in different places.

But it was on for years so perhaps it changed.

londonmummy1966 · 12/11/2023 23:09

Not sure I get the dissing of AR on here - she was still better than Krishnan much as I love him - you only need to watch her feet (in heels). She may or may not go out next week - I suspect it depends on Annabel (who is cruising on the love for JoJo). I was also a bit p'd that Layton got away with dancing the AT in flats - I feel that perhaps some weeks the pair of them should be made to perform in heels otherwise they get to do what they want the easy way.

Being extra grumpy tonight - I thought that Viginia Bocelli junior was dreadful - out of tune and forcing Andrea to undersing so as not to drown her out. talk about a nepo baby....

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2023 23:11

The thing that makes me laugh a bit is the way they go on about the competitions the pros have danced in at Blackpool.

The pros almost certainly competed in the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens just along the prom, not the Tower Ballroom.

It is a gorgeous ballroom, and I love dancing there, but it isn't actually where the biggest competitions are held.

Choux · 12/11/2023 23:17

They only go to Blackpool because Children in Need uses the Elstree studio every year but they try to make out it's a big thing rather than just say they have been turfed out of the studio.

It is a beautiful ballroom but it must be a pain to shift everything up there for a week. I wonder where they all stay - I can't imagine they just go in the morning and travel back at 11pm.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/11/2023 23:20

Media City maybe? They have a few BBC hotels there, and I would think some of the equipment might be from there?

Although, maybe they do stay/go out in Blackpool on the Saturday — didn't Gorka get a tooth knocked out or something after the show?

EvilRingahBitch · 12/11/2023 23:33

They notoriously do stay in Blackpool and have a fairly wild night out before coming back on Sunday. God knows what the best hotel in Blackpool is, (I haven't been for years) but I assume there must be a good one and they presumably book out a club just for them rather than randomly showing up at the Flying Handbag.

PastorCarrBonarra · 12/11/2023 23:38

I think that despite her fitness, Angela R looked tired and drained, and thank heavens Kai prevented that fall in the DO. It could have been very unpleasant.

I don’t think she’ll be too devastated to leave next week. I also wonder whether were it not for “Blackpool”, she’d withdraw this week citing health. But she’s a strong personality and a professional, and she’s aware that fans of Come Dancing/Morecambe and Wise will be keen to see her on Saturday.

EsmaCannonball · 12/11/2023 23:41

Bit worried that Blackpool doesn't have enough batshit Russian billionaire wives and Mexican cartel mistresses to have such a thing as a cryogenic spa. Come 11:30 Friday night, Angela's going to be passing a backhander to the manager of the local Bejam's. 'Dump those potato waffles in the sea, Neville, and tell head office there was a power cut. I'll see those girls of yours can stay at their nice private school. If this cartilage melts, I'll never make it through to the end of Pump Up the Jam.'

The dressing room got robbed one year, too.

It's a load of bollocks, the friends for life thing anyway. It's a bubble.
Only a few have stayed in touch - Amy/Tom, Sara/Aljaz, Julien/Janette - so it always feels weird when they effuse too much. It was a job.

What about Kevin and Stacey and Jo and Dianne?

MerelySnark · 13/11/2023 00:01

Agree x 1000.

It’s one thing supporting children when they are your family/neighbours/in the school play. That’s fine, but not this.

Strictly isn’t a children’s talent show. If it were I wouldn’t be watching.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/11/2023 00:02

the Flying Handbag

Goodness, that takes me back. I think we'd been in there approximately a minute and a half before my friend got his bottom pinched. Grin

Choux · 13/11/2023 00:16

Here's where they stayed last year.

I’ve just finished watching the Results and I’m gutted 😢

Although I knew it would happen regarding Shirley’s “I would have save Krishnan” bollocks, I still feel really sad.

He was such a lovely man and he bought so much joy and happiness to the show. I think Lauren’s farewell speech to him was lovely and captured well why people like Krishnan are what SCD should be about.

I’m a mixture of being really upset for Krishnan and being really pissed off at Angela.

I think I need a cup of tea to calm myself down.

I agree.

Krishnan was the true spirit of Strictly. And he was better in the Dance Off.

Fucking BBC producers desperate to do their "let's relive the 70s" bollocks. Who fucking cares that 50 years ago people were surprised that Slippy Slidey Rippon had legs. 90% of the people watching Strictly don't give a shit about that history and that's why she's been in the dance off twice. She's not as good, popular or "bbc royalty" as all of those fuckers in the BBC Bubble Luvvie world think.

Us out here in the real world saw she was poor, didn't vote for her and it was still a total FIX.

SequinsandStiIettos · 13/11/2023 01:03

What about Kevin and Stacey and Jo and Dianne?
I was referring to bffs as opposed to lovers (I'd assume anyone coupled up would be mates an' all but ykwim)

KingsleyBorder · 13/11/2023 01:37

That’s harsh. You don’t have any admiration for a 78 year old woman dancing as well as/ better than people half her age? Fucking hell if I am even alive at 78 I’ll be impressed with myself.

Krishnan was in full on Dad dancing territory and I disagree strongly that he was better. Angela probably deserved to be in the dance off, given where we are in the competition, but also deserved to win it.
