Maybe her Japanese restaurant is actually one of those all-you-can eat buffets that tries to rig the game with teeny-tiny plates?

If you are ever in Bath, her restaurant's afternoon tea is lovely! I took teen DD on a Groupon.

(Robun)

I don't eat enough Japanese food to know if it is anyway authentic.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 07/11/2023 21:00

Crying all the way back to the Caribbean. It’s a hard life. 😁See you Thursday!

viques · 07/11/2023 21:01

“ Oh yah! Our former private chef tried Masterchef. We had to let her go, though , simply couldn’t stand the humiliation. No not her humiliation, darling, ours. Imagine having a chef who cried because of that ghastly little grocer !”

Cookingdoesntgettougher · 07/11/2023 21:01

See you soon, might be catching up instead of live as 9 seems to be my bedtime at the moment.

Halsall · 07/11/2023 21:01

Hema has the big choc letters, only a euro each, perfect stocking fillers

Hema is great for stocking fillers. I was gutted when they closed down in London, I used to get my fix of Nespresso-compatible coffee pods from there, too, ridiculously cheap and good.

Blueberrycreampie · 07/11/2023 21:01

Tata tata tatan!

littlbrowndog · 07/11/2023 21:05

I've never been to the Durham coast but I'm envisaging the end of Get Carter except with a few medieval monks thrown in.

(Actually I bet it's sort of bleak and remote but beautiful. With seals.)

He works at Seaham Hall, where Ginger Kenny Atkinson was Exec Chef for years and had a Michelin ⭐️

MollsDolls · 07/11/2023 21:58

What's the deal with one or other of the chefs disappearing into a different room?

Really don't get that bit?

So they can make encouraging comments and noises about the contestant while they do the skills challenge. Or they can suck their teeth and flinch.

Also, intimidating enough to have one chef and a grocer watching you, two chefs and a grocer would be a bit hard. Though they could put the grocer in the room and accidentally lock him in.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/11/2023 22:08

I think it's so they can tell us what they're doing well/badly without tipping them off.

viques · 08/11/2023 12:30

Also it gives us the opportunity to enjoy Mon’s eyebrow-ography.

BIWI · 08/11/2023 18:26

There are two things I never get with MC.

First - lamb cookery. So many times they say it's not cooked enough, but it looks perfect on the telly. Or it looks really pink/bloody on the telly but they say they love how well it's cooked.

Second - how food is plated. There was one this week (can't remember which chef) and Marcus dissed it as being too 'rustic'. Or they say it looks scruffy, when to us, it looks great. Or it looks well-plated and then it gets criticised.

Perhaps we need to adjust the colour setting on our telly to deal with (1). No idea how we could deal with the second!

GettingStuffed · 08/11/2023 20:48

One thing I noticed yesterday was how arrogant Marcus was. Of course the dessert is good it's MY recipe. I don't think there are too many different custard tarts around.

BIWI · 08/11/2023 20:54

I don't think he was being arrogant (any more than usual!) - I think he was just really irritated by the contestant who clearly thought he would be able to curry favour by cooking one of Marcus's recipes. Who then cocked it up royally!

ChicoryDip · 08/11/2023 21:59

I thought trying to cook Marcus' custard tart was a massive mistake. I can't work out whether it was him being particularly naive or trying to be clever. I know a lot of the 'normal' contestants cook a dessert to attempt to get Gregg onside but this was a rather stupid step further.

And I agree with the lamb cookery comment - it must be something with the cameras as we can never call it right. I'm also sick of the ubiquitous lamb on MC recently, I'm getting nostalgic for a chicken breast, a goat's cheese tart or a piece of salmon.

Halsall · 09/11/2023 07:34

I’ve puzzled over the lamb thing and concluded that when they sooooo veeeed it (something I really don’t fancy the idea of, myself), it enables it to look horrifically pink when it’s actually cooked through.

When they do it the old-fashioned was in the oven they often run out of time and then it really IS still baaa-ing.

So I think that may be why they seem so inconsistent in their lamb comments.

Pebbledashery · 09/11/2023 19:42

Just watching Mary Berry and Jordan North on Beeb 2. It was a joyous programme. What a lovely lad he seems to be. I really hope there are no horrible skeletons in his cupboard.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/11/2023 20:01

Hello all. I'm here after a mad day with 14 children in my house for an art lesson (not with me). Was a good day but I am shattered.
