New easy watching murder drama on each week

The Good Ship Murder is an eight-part series that launches on Channel 5 on Friday October 13 at 9pm, with subsequent episodes running weekly on Fridays at the same time through the rest of autumn 2023 (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/autumn-tv-preview-2023-all-the-best-dramas-coming-to-the-uk-in-the-new-season)
.

The Good Ship Murder on Channel 5 stars former Coronation Street actors Shayne Ward and Catherine Tyldesley as an ex-cop and a naval officer who team up to solve a spate of murders on a glamorous cruise ship.

Shayne plays former detective Jack Grayling, who is living his dream of becoming a cabaret singer on board a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship, while Catherine is fiercely ambitious and newly promoted First Officer on the ship, Kate Woods.

When a passenger is found murdered, Jack is thrust back into his former world and what follows is a wave of murders, each set against a different yet equally stunning coastal backdrop.

The Good Ship Murder follows former detective Jack Grayling (Shayne Ward) who is living his best life working as an entertainer on a cruise ship. There he meets First Officer Kate Woods (Catherine Tyldesley), a woman in a man’s world, with plenty to prove. Life on the ship is exciting and glamorous but there are jealousies, rivalries and deep divides hidden below the surface and, as the ship docks at its first port of call, a passenger is found murdered. This tragedy is followed by more murders and unlikely duo Jack and Kate must join together to solve the mysteries.

Interesting casting - the two lead actors played a couple on Coronation Street, Aidan and Eva. And another actor in it is currently playing Tyrone's mum in Corrie!

So bad.
I wanted a bit of Riviera with life on a ship mixed with gorgeous locations . Plus I’ve been on Virtuosia so wanted lots of screaming “we were there” moments.
It was terrible. Really bad acting and stupidly unbelievable script ( like why all the interest in someone who died off the ship. Cruise ships always happily sail away at departure time, they’re not bothered who didn’t make it back onboard or why). He’d had just gone to the local police station / morgue.
I don’t mind it being pap but at least make it entertaining.

The acting was DIRE. I won’t be watching episode 2.

I quite enjoyed it Blush
Better than Mrs Sidhu

We recorded to watch when there is nothing else on.

I thought it was nice undemanding nonsense. Hadn't see Shayne Ward in anything since X Factor!

Quite a clever idea to be able to film a few scenes each week in locations people might recognise. We were in La Rochelle and Ile de Re last month so had a few moments of "Oh look its that tower, oh that's where you bought your new trunks, etc."

It was fun watching this, after watching the depressing Reckoning.

We did wonder if Shane would be singing at the end like Jane McDonald. Loved that it was the Monkees Daydream Believer. Looking forward to seeing next week’s episode , set in Lisbon, as we have family there!
😃

We need a cherry murder series

Another cheery murder on a ship was Death on the Tyne, although the funniest bit was the TV advertising perfume, which was Jane McDonald's ‘Secretions’. Had me and DP howling at it. I thought she was such a sport for doing it.

Jane McDonald : [on a promotional video] “Hi, I'm Jane McDonald, and I want you to enjoy my Secretions. It's gritty, it's northern, it stings. “😂

butterpuffed · 15/10/2023 17:04

The acting was poor , the story was slow , the singing was okay . 😅

What absolute nonsense.

Loved it 😁

martinisforeveryone · 15/10/2023 18:51

The bits that creased me up were the line about the leopard skin catsuit in the jacuzzi scene, although, sadly, that didn't turn out to be much fun after all and all the cheering, whooping and hands in the air at the singing at the end. OTT much? but I chose to see it as silly and very funny. That's your cheese-fest right there 😂

purpleme12 · 15/10/2023 22:07

Ah I quite liked it actually. Just really fun watch.
Obviously not supposed to be taken seriously.
And quite liked the juxtaposition of the crime investigator and singer on a cruise ship.

Is it just me or does anyone else have the feeling of this series reminding them of something?...its the weirdest thing, I had it first time I watched the trailer. It was like I recognised it, so much so I thought this was a third or fourth season or something but then realised its a completely new series.

Its something about the cruise ship vibe, Catherine Tyldesley in a uniform and the whole idea of a light hearted mystery type genre set abroad and involving cruise ship workers/holiday reps...I've been racking my brains trying to think of a TV series like this, it feels like its a distant memory from years ago...anyone have any ideas?

I'm not thinking of Death in Paradise. Or that one set in Spain. This is driving me crazy!
