Tonight 9.30pm. Based on the Sue Gray report telling the story of what was happening during Covid 19 inside 10 Downing Street including the lockdown breaching parties.

Im refusing to watch this, doesn't seem right to make a drama out of something that was illegal at the time, and they are all still parading about scot free

There is dramatisation of points made in the Sue Grey report as each one is raised. There are also pieces from ‘real life’ in there. Ordinary people’s funerals, Police body cameras etc. It’s educational. I recommend watching it.

Blueeyedmale · 03/10/2023 23:00

Now I understand why people use the term Tory scum

WestwardHo1 · 03/10/2023 23:00

And the prosecutions are continuing WTF. Working class people have been disproportionately hit by these fines. Im horrified that many who agreed with the restrictions and claimed to be on the left couldnt see that and continued to call those of us who pointed this out all sorts of names.

Rita Ora had a party Her fine would have been chicken feed to her. Not so for a student though. Or anyone else like that guy with the £14,000 fine ALL fines need to rescinded and paid back

Working class people were not just disproportionately affected by the fines

Pretty much every aspect of lockdown was MUCH worse for the poor

Still some folk can't see it. They defend it all

JenniferBooth · 03/10/2023 23:01

Yep @WestwardHo1 Completely agree

Apologies - not the place for my post above (I stand by it though)

SirCharlesRainier · 03/10/2023 23:01

It's really really stretching my long held "we can disagree on politics but still be polite to each other" principles.

I'm not looking forward to next year's canvassing, trying not to scream "these people are utterly evil cunts, and if you support them then so are you" at friendly old ladies on my doorstep.

No apology needed for me.

I absolutely believe this is the place for your post.

WestwardHo1 · 03/10/2023 23:02

Yes. I'm planning what to do with the Tory leaflets that will no doubt come through my letterbox

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 03/10/2023 23:04

It's made me angry all over again at how Boris lied and tried to mislead us all , the lies .

Roussette · Today 22:22

'It's disgusting. What I would feel like if I'd lost someone close to me during that awful time, I do not know

They took the piss and held the general public in complete disdain'

My twin was in intensive care during this period, after being found unconscious. I was allowed to see her, but had to wear so much 'protective' gear that I never knew if she recognised me. Of course the nurses were all covered up. I talked to her, and her eyes seemed to follow me, but I can't shake the feeling that her life ended in a room on her own, apart from the people looking like aliens.

JenniferBooth · 03/10/2023 23:07

You lost a twin Im so so sorry, Flowers

SingingSands · 03/10/2023 23:08

My DH couldn't watch it all, he was too angry. He was working in hospital all through covid, he works with vulnerable people of all ages from babies and children to the elderly, who he also visits at home or in care homes. I think his parting words at the TV as he left the room were "bunch of absolute pricks".

It just brought back some miserable memories didn't it? Despite that I say well done Ch4, I hope it makes a lot of people really think.

CheekyMonkey1989 · 03/10/2023 23:13

What I don’t get is why it took what 14 parties before someone blabbed to the press? They had that bit where the woman said people who blab never work again but there is no friggin way I could work for a company who were doing that!!!

GoodOldEmmaNess · 03/10/2023 23:14

It was a bit weird that the lesser degree of evil exhibited by the central character was presented as being somehow associated with geography.
How many times did they shovel in the word Darlington? -- 'Oh, I'm just going to help the cleaners by filling a binbag with empty bottles. I'm from Darlington, you see.' etc etc

Middle-class Tory-girls from fee-paying schools (Durham Cathedral School, I think they said) don't get a free pass just from being born in the north. It was silly and trivialising in an otherwise v punchy programme.

minou123 · 03/10/2023 23:15

I'm so sorry @itsnotmeitsu ❤️

Moonshine5 · 03/10/2023 23:19

@itsnotmeitsu so sorry

PermanentTemporary · 03/10/2023 23:19

Collapse of Internet connection for the last 5 minutes which was annoying. Oh well.

Just a complete lack of moral sense, to the point that it's suspicious if someone even mentions morals. I have worked somewhere like that but luckily not during a pandemic.

Moonshine5 · 03/10/2023 23:20

Brilliant depiction #Partygate
Hard to watch

IslandAngle · 03/10/2023 23:22

I didn’t want to watch this (I don’t think the ads properly portrayed how it was going to be).

But your comments have made me rethink, and I’ve just started it on catch up.
I am already angry (and sad at the real life footage).

IslandAngle · 03/10/2023 23:23

I’m so very sorry @itsnotmeitsu

WestwardHo1 · 03/10/2023 23:29

@itsnotmeitsu I'm so so sorry. How bloody sad :(

Passepartoute · 03/10/2023 23:40

Those sections with the poor cleaners were really hard-hitting. As was the attitude of the staff to the cleaners.

Passepartoute · 03/10/2023 23:41

If that section where they were talking about the Ireland border was remotely true to life, it's frightening to think these idiots were helping to run the country.

Mehmeh22 · 03/10/2023 23:46

Currently working in local governments.....this is exactly what it is like @Passepartoute

Helendegenerate · 04/10/2023 00:10

How were the fines worked out? Millionaires paid £50 yet folk on average wages were fined thousands.

"We make the rules for the people but we don't have to follow them"

What!?
