New BBC drama series follows on from the hugely successful, multi award-winning feature film of the same name

I HAVNT SEEN THE FILM SO NOT SURE IF WILL WATCH AS MAY NOT MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME

Eight months after her mentor Andy Jones (Stephen Graham) suffered a heart attack, head chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) is battling to forge a name for new Dalston restaurant Point North alongside her old kitchen crew. We follow the team as the stresses of keeping the restaurant running bear down on them amidst a hospitality industry in crisis. With the pressure to draw in new, hungry customers and the financial squeeze to keep the business profitable, the team must find a way to manage their complicated personal lives whilst creating quality food day in, day out.

Yes, it’s not suitable for children or younger teens in my opinion. Lots of adult topics.

butterpuffed · 04/10/2023 13:53

Just watched the first episode of the series . Really enjoyable, hope Freeman comes back , he was good .

Fawful · 04/10/2023 15:36

Wow, just watched the first episode too - so true to life, it's amazing.
The only inauthentic bit is the 'French' chef, who imo doesn't sound French when she speaks English (and definitely not when she speaks French).
Other than that it's spot on, including the feeling of being part of a sort of family.
I stopped working in restaurants quite a few years ago but I still have these nightmares that I'm in a shift and the kitchen announce they only have breakfast cereals left/cutlery have gone awol/I've let in 100 people and I'm the only waitress.

Just finished EP2 (I haven’t seen the film). It’s got parallels with The Bear. Still, I really love the characters, especially Emily. Her acting as a kind, loving, patient, lonely person is superb.

Sorry everyone if I missed what’s already been asked- but this is a four part BBC drama?
Ive seen the Netflix film and the BBC short version which is about 20 minutes.

So this series is different? There’s three versions of this then ?

Oh that was stressful to watch. I know working in hospitality is stressful and am thankful I've never had to work in any area of it. I wonder about the actors and how they deal with such intensity? I couldn't do any of it, reality or simulated.

LadyEloise1 · 09/10/2023 08:50

Great series. So well acted.
Do we know the backstory of Jamie ?
I haven't seen the film, I'm just watching Boiling Point on BBC1.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/10/2023 10:59

Well done but hard hitting.

@newnamethanks, well that’s what a good actor does, acts. With whatever script they’re given.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2023 11:15

I went to bed last night so didn't see it

Just watched

Omg. Poor Jamie

Is this what kitchens are really like

The pressure so bad

The constant hurry up

Not sure why the waitress had to tell the loud couple to pipe down

And not the front man or was it as he was gay they say to stay away

Glad he went to aa

Didn't really blonde lady was an alcoholic

But watching this and the constant pressure you can always understand why drives someone to drink

End of message wasn't there

But I hope if sober for 10yrs she doesn't drink the bottle she brought

Haven’t watched yet, but wanted to say that Hannah Walters, who plays blonde Emily, is Stephen Graham’s real life wife. I only just found that out.

No backstory yet . He was told to roll up his sleeves and that's the first everyone knew of his self harm . That was sad last night .

My son's a head chef , he was down at the weekend , said he's heard of Boiling Point but not seen it . I described how frenetic it's portrayed and he said that's just what it's like .

Fawful · 09/10/2023 20:10

Yes it really is that intense, @Blondeshavemorefun... Though not exactly the same in all places, specially those where the food is half-ready-made, of course. As for the couple, as waiters we have to ask loud or sweary people to keep it down because other customers expect to be able to eat in peace. It's a common thing every waiter has had to do... That waitress was sent to deal with it as (iirc) apparently she wanted to progress/ become a supervisor or at least develop skills? That's what Dean implies when he sends her to them I think? It makes sense.
I've binged-watched it all and I take back my reservations about it, I think it's great, very subtle, and says a lot about a lot of topics. It has a naturally light-touch diverse and inclusive feel which rings v true or at least matches my experience in hospitality.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/10/2023 20:59

@Fawful ah I see. I thought the bloke up front should have dealt with any issues

Not really sure what his job is tbh

Just started first episode

Bit too stressful with the Mum thing

BellaAndDave · 09/10/2023 23:49

We watched this a year or so ago. It’s fab and been out for a while.

It's a 4 part follow on series which picks up where the film left off. It's every bit as brilliant and stressful as the film!

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2023 07:09

This weird is new

There is the film and short film

Now this

OMG I thought it was the original, I didn’t realise there was another one. I’ll be starting to watch this evening, I was looking for something to watch ☺️

BIWI · 10/10/2023 09:37

I had to keep consciously unclenching my jaw watching that - not sure if I'm enjoying it or not, as you're constantly waiting for something to go wrong!
