New BBC drama series follows on from the hugely successful, multi award-winning feature film of the same name

I HAVNT SEEN THE FILM SO NOT SURE IF WILL WATCH AS MAY NOT MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME

Eight months after her mentor Andy Jones (Stephen Graham) suffered a heart attack, head chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) is battling to forge a name for new Dalston restaurant Point North alongside her old kitchen crew. We follow the team as the stresses of keeping the restaurant running bear down on them amidst a hospitality industry in crisis. With the pressure to draw in new, hungry customers and the financial squeeze to keep the business profitable, the team must find a way to manage their complicated personal lives whilst creating quality food day in, day out.

All episodes are on iplayer. Watched tonight's Ep1. It was quite a stressful watch and took an hour to tell a 10 minute story. I wasn't keen. Very effing shouty.

Aquarius1234 · 01/10/2023 22:51

Enjoyed it. Won't be on this thread now as Will binge the rest.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2023 00:06

You could be weekly @Aquarius1234

Just for me 😂

I think Carly is now understanding why Andy got so stressed

Tho his heart attack onv didn't put him off drinking

Def an alcoholic

Lost his wife / kid / home and job but still drinks 🥲🥲

I watched the short film, and have to say that in my experience working in kitchens, real life is far more intense... it looked a pretty sedate kitchen to me

Watch the film. It’s great.

Agree. Its one of my best films ive seen for years

PuppyMonkey · 02/10/2023 07:19

Thought the first episode was really great, effortlessly carried on the manic atmosphere of the film. DD is currently working as a pot washer in a very busy restaurant and she couldn’t cope with watching this, too triggering. Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2023 08:17

It's obv a posh restaurant

As the potions are tiny and delicate

Know how she feels, I worked as a waitress when I was studying and also in the States for a couple of summers, felt physically sick watching last night. One thing that jarred was the waiting staff waltzing in and out of the kitchen that was a no go area if you valued your life in my experience. Graham Norton on his show Friday also said he found it triggering after working a lot in the hospitality industry.

I found it quite hard to watch a lot of fast camera movements making me feel a bit dizzy but will definitely persevere. I had never heard of the film so will try and watch it before next Sunday

I watched the long 90 min film , was definitely intense which was increased by it being on one long take , hard to watch without feeling a bit seasick !

LadyEloise1 · 02/10/2023 20:28

I recorded it and am watching it now.
Gosh it's frenetic.
The STRESS.
Just for food. 🙄

Dartmoorcheffy · 02/10/2023 23:53

Loved the film and loved the first episode of the series. This has been my life environment for years and they have done a fantastic job of getting it spot on. It really is that intense in a restaurant kitchen. Loving watching this.

Verylongweek · 03/10/2023 00:22

Needs a trigger warning for anyone who has grown up in hospitality.
I felt every minute of every shift, brilliantly shot, but not sure by menopausal BP will recover…

Good to know it's true to life

Equally very stressful and sure at end of each shift just stagger home to bed rather then out for drinks and partying

What happened with the hollandaise sauce the new boy was trying and failing to make ?

newnamethanks · 03/10/2023 07:35

Down the drain with it, LadyEloise. Beef fat hollandaise? Shudder.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/10/2023 09:16

Or chocolate sauce with beef

I missed it going down the drain. Fatberg anyone ?
Which staff member noticed ?

I haven't seen the film and while I thought the plot lines were wholly predictable, I still enjoyed this, I suppose because of how it was filmed and the combination of script and ad libs. It made it seem much more real and easier to invest in the characters. I'm just not sure on the broadcast slot though, I prefer something a bit calmer for the last viewing on a Sunday.

Helendegenerate · 03/10/2023 12:11

This caused me a little temporary confusion because I watched the longer version last year and thought it was very good. Then last week I realised what I thought I was watching again was in fact the "short" and wondered why they did that ( two versions of the same thing) anyway am not interested in watching a mini series of all that shouting. I think they've over played the whole idea which was impressive at first 😐

Stephen Graham is a fine actor though and was perfectly cast imo.

Film is on Netflix. The one thing I don't have

It's on i player too.

Apparently the short version
That was stressy enough.

Lighthouseview · 03/10/2023 12:39

Sorry, just binged the 4 episodes. No spoilers from me. I hadn’t seen the film so just jumped in. I liked it, got pulled into the characters. Was disappointed it was only 4 episodes, I wanted to know a lot more about them all!

Ha yeh I finished it last night.
Could have easily been 6 or 8 episodes

Guess it's expensive to film.

UkeleleUnicycle · 03/10/2023 13:57

I need to know if the series contains any allergic reactions.

The film was traumatic because of having a ds with food allergies and meant he turned off and now won't eat in restaurants. A trigger warning would have been so helpful.

UkeleleUnicycle · 03/10/2023 13:58

Sorry to hijack thread!

Hi
No there isn't. There is other stuff though that you may want to read up. Radio Times had a long summary. Mental health etc.
