My Mum, Your Dad

Oops got the title wrong in my first thread - have requested deletion

Starting tomorrow on itv1

“My Mum, Your Dad is a British dating reality show that is set to begin airing on ITV1 on 11 September 2023. It will be presented by Davina McCall and follows middle-aged single parents heading to a romance retreat for a second chance at love which is overseen by their children.”

From a Google for the show it appears there is already 1 season of the US called My Mom, Your Dad. So presumably the same format.

Anyone planning to watch?

Is this the show that was billed in the media as an upcoming middle aged Love Island earlier this year?

I love the name Tia

I'm watching. I remember getting messages about a show on this premise years ago, maybe it wasn't made until now.

I'm slightly annoyed at how glam they all look. The women are all beautiful, but they all look like they've had work done.

I'm obviously not the right demographic to apply for future series Grin

Everyone's really glam in it aren't they

I know I was expecting it to be regular peeps not the glam squad...and there are a few that have been on TV already (Clayton) First Dates and (Natalie) Rich Kids go Skint...I was thinking it was going to be regular people not those who like being on TV.

Debatable if he should be on a big platform only a year after losing his wife.

I thought it seemed soon as well

I wondered this too, and going by the beautiful flowering wisteria on the house I would say May-June.

I agree that Roger isn't ready for this show, and also agree with the comments about the contestants looking too glam. Caroline (the Scottish lady) is my favourite so far.

My favourite too

Aw I like Davina, I don't get why people don't. I suppose sometimes she's a bit loud (on Big Brother perhaps?) but she's not like that on this.

I think she's perfect for these programmes

booktokbear · 13/09/2023 21:08

What's the obsession in this type of programmes with showing people brushing their teeth. It's gross! (But maybe that's just me!)

booktokbear · 13/09/2023 21:12

Aww bless her (Sharon)

davinasshorts · 13/09/2023 21:14

Beginning to lose interest quickly

Is anything going to happen? Other than the women all getting emosh about ex boyfriends?

Rummikub · 13/09/2023 21:18

I still like it.

Think Clayton is trying too hard and needs to chill.

omgsally · 13/09/2023 21:20

They (as in the producers) could do more to chivvy things along. Speed dating events, activities, themed romantic dinners etc. They're all just milling round a bit.

davinasshorts · 13/09/2023 21:24

Too much blubbing and self pity

I agree. It actually turns my stomach watching it.

rockingbird · 13/09/2023 21:46

I'm positive that the blonde lady has been on BGT or something similar 🤨

Rummikub · 13/09/2023 22:00

I really like the pace. Much better than wham bam!

ithinkicanithinkican · 13/09/2023 22:27

The thing that bugs me about these dating shows is that contestants come from all over the country. What is really the likelihood that they are going to get together with someone who lives hundreds of miles away - particularly with middle aged people who have very established lives and homes? I am quite enjoying the programme though.

Iwannadancewithsomebody88 · 13/09/2023 22:31

I know they need to add drama, but tonight they had a huge heart-to-heart about trust/being hurt in the past/needing time to make a connection... then they keep adding new people. For me that's a bit cruel as some of them have started to open up (i know its early days) and then they are going to get hurt again by being dropped for someone else - harsh

ThePoshUns · 13/09/2023 22:50

The psychotherapist bit was rather dull and awkward. I would have hated that.

EddieHowesShithousingMags · 13/09/2023 23:17

I deffo recognise the blonde woman, where on earth from?!

Me too, but no idea where from!

purpleme12 · 13/09/2023 23:50

Ah yes I think I remember Clayton now from First Dates now you've said!

Britneyfan · 14/09/2023 00:07

@booktokbear I’m glad it wasn’t just me noticing about the teeth brushing! I don’t find it gross personally but by the end of the programme I was thinking “ok they REALLY want us to see in huge detail that everyone is thoroughly brushing their teeth for some reason?! Why?!!!” 🤣

Britneyfan · 14/09/2023 00:10

I was so excited when I heard about this programme, as a single parent I have been saying for years that someone needs to do a dating show with people in their 40s and up. I even thought about applying but you had to be nominated by your adult child who is over 18 and mine is 16! Maybe in two years if it’s still going 🤣 Not sure I’m glam enough though! I’d feel a bit intimidated by the other women I think!

Britneyfan · 14/09/2023 00:16

It’s reminding me a bit of a Japanese programme I watched on Netflix called Love Village. Same sort of phase of life/age range although on that show it was quite cool because they had them working together to renovate the house they were living in which was extremely basic at the beginning! I did like it but found the pace a little slow and not enough people for a decent chance of potential couples forming. I think this programme is also a bit like that so far but I’m only on episode one. I get why at this stage of life they don’t just throw people together crazily like in Love Island, but I was expecting a little more structure/challenges/shake-ups etc. somehow. Like maybe they could have got the kids to choose who they went on their first dates with to begin with or something and really push them out of their comfort zone a little more. Also the dates could have gone further than various corners of the garden 🤣
