My Mum, Your Dad

Oops got the title wrong in my first thread - have requested deletion

Starting tomorrow on itv1

“My Mum, Your Dad is a British dating reality show that is set to begin airing on ITV1 on 11 September 2023. It will be presented by Davina McCall and follows middle-aged single parents heading to a romance retreat for a second chance at love which is overseen by their children.”

From a Google for the show it appears there is already 1 season of the US called My Mom, Your Dad. So presumably the same format.

Anyone planning to watch?

Is this the show that was billed in the media as an upcoming middle aged Love Island earlier this year?

Caroline - Scottish one seems normal, rest of the mums are all too glam for my liking!! I’m of a similar age and do not look like them 😆

Twigletgirl27 · 11/09/2023 23:02

@Virgo1958 as someone married to a widower who tentatively started dating (not me) a year after his wife died, I completely agree. I asked him what he thought and as much as we enjoyed watching, he said there was no way he'd have agreed to this

Loveinacandle · 11/09/2023 23:08

I was thinking the same, it feels like he may not be ready. Touching to see how much his daughter wanted him to find someone tho

Gothambutnotahamster · 12/09/2023 00:10

I really enjoyed it. I love that they're all glamorous but don't seem fake or plastic and actually seem quite normal.

I agree re Roger though - a year is no time to be ready to move on. Hope he's ok!

I have high hopes for the show Grin

gandeysflipflop · 12/09/2023 00:34

yes I agree they're all way too glam and some look younger than their own kids. why can't these programmes just use ordinary everyday looking people and not people that look like they've just stepped put of a catalogue modelling photo shoot. spoils the programme for me.

VivienneDelacroix · 12/09/2023 00:42

Ha! I said to dh - there's a great soundtrack to this. He told me that it's because its aimed at middle aged people.

WallaceinAnderland · 12/09/2023 01:14

It's way too early for Roger to be thinking about another relationship. If DH died I cannot imagine being out there just one year later. I would be devastated and still grieving. And I'm not sure who would want to date a man who still clearly loves and misses his late wife so deeply. It's so raw and painful. I think he would do well with a friend for companionship and to talk through his grief.

The rest of the men giving me MAFS vibes too.

Virgo1958 · 11/09/2023 22:24

Debatable if he should be on a big platform only a year after losing his wife.

I say this as a widow myself. After a year things are often still very raw, Just surprised producers would pick someone still obviously grieving. Hope its not because he is handsome and good TV. Stages of grief are different for every individual I know.

JustDanceAddict · 12/09/2023 07:07

@VivienneDelacroix / I was singing along to all the 80s tunes ‘together in electric dreams…’ classic!!

lollipoprainbow · 12/09/2023 07:49

My brother in law met and married someone quite quickly after my sister died it was within the year. I don't think men cope well with being alone.

butterpuffed · 12/09/2023 08:11

I originally thought this would be shown a day later like Love Island , but there have been trailers of the parents for weeks . Does anyone know how long ago it was filmed ?

My FIL was married for 40 years when my MIL died (they got together at 19, and he was a 'young' 60) and had a new girlfriend within about 6 weeks. My husband and his sister were devastated but i agree, some men can't cope alone and move on very quickly.

Im not sure I'm getting those vibes from Roger though - he does come across as it being too soon for him.

I wondered this too, and going by the beautiful flowering wisteria on the house I would say May-June.

I agree that Roger isn't ready for this show, and also agree with the comments about the contestants looking too glam. Caroline (the Scottish lady) is my favourite so far.

I don't know what I hate most about this concept: the poor people being put forward for dates or the fact Davina McCall is hosting it. Why didn't ITV just go the whole hog and throw James Corden in there, make it a real festival of horror?

CosyCoffee · 12/09/2023 11:46

Aw I like Davina, I don't get why people don't. I suppose sometimes she's a bit loud (on Big Brother perhaps?) but she's not like that on this.

usernother · 12/09/2023 12:18

Has the woman with the pony tail been in anything else? She looks very familiar.

Jennalong · 12/09/2023 12:21

Agree they are a bit ' tv vibe people ' , a little more normal would be a better mix. However , give it another episode and I'm sure I will be invested.

Laughingravy · 12/09/2023 12:50

My cynical DP - who I made watch - pointed out they were mostly arriving in pretty nice big motors because they were hire cars. When I asked how he knew he pointed out the rear seatbelts were all clipped in - just like when you pick up a hire car or get your own back from an MoT. I'll watch the next episode on my own I think.

I was wondering about all the immaculate inside expensive cars and wondered if they were hire cars.

Im a Davina fan too - I've loved her since her God's Gift hosting days on late night tele that i used to watch as a teenager when i got home drunk after a night out!

Paintedtoenail · 12/09/2023 14:20

Love. Davina.

I have always had a bit of a girl crush on her 🩷

Is the woman with pony tail the one that was on MAFS uk ?

usernother · 12/09/2023 12:18

Has the woman with the pony tail been in anything else? She looks very familiar.

Yes she does. I think it's just that she's had some work done and it makes you look like other people who have had work done. 😼

It was pleasant enough but I'm not sure I'll be dropping everything to watch it. I probably will if there's nothing else on. Agree they are all a bit TV people vibe.

The reveal - that the young people will be watching their parents and getting more involved than they thought, surely only works once? So they aren't anticipating that this will grow into another series as then people would know what the premise is? I found that odd.

CosyCoffee · 12/09/2023 15:00

The lady with the ponytail reminded me of the Ukrainian woman with 'the world's biggest cheeks'. I don't mean it unkindly and I won't add a photo, but she just resembles her to me.

WallaceinAnderland · 12/09/2023 15:14

I wonder what the young people thought they were going to do there for 10 days as they all obviously packed and have been booked into accommodation, got time off work etc.
