My Mum, Your Dad

Oops got the title wrong in my first thread - have requested deletion

Starting tomorrow on itv1

“My Mum, Your Dad is a British dating reality show that is set to begin airing on ITV1 on 11 September 2023. It will be presented by Davina McCall and follows middle-aged single parents heading to a romance retreat for a second chance at love which is overseen by their children.”

From a Google for the show it appears there is already 1 season of the US called My Mom, Your Dad. So presumably the same format.

Anyone planning to watch?

Is this the show that was billed in the media as an upcoming middle aged Love Island earlier this year?

That intimacy session was grim. I'd have walked off at that.
I found it quite boring this evening.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 18/09/2023 22:41

My guess is that Caroline and Clayton will get sent home because they haven’t made any ‘connections’ - but if it was me deciding I’d choose Nathalie and Paul as they seem to be the most loved up and probably don’t need the programme any more.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 18/09/2023 22:42

But of course the kids may well send smarmy Martin home because none of them like him

Twonewcats · 18/09/2023 22:43

If I'm honest, I'm getting a bit fed up of the Roger drama. I felt awful for him, but ultimately he agreed to be on the show and knew what it might entail.
He's not the only one who's not been with someone different for years. Sharon and Monique haven't had sex for years.
My dh and I don't have sex very often, and I know for sure I'd really struggle with getting close to someone else Roger isn't the only one to be in a weird situation here.

Similar to Love Island, I'd rather established couples were sent home and the others were given a chance.

I completely agree about the intimacy session. The work shops seem pointless and they don't appear to be getting anything from them. I watch too hot to handle and at least the work shops have a purpose.

Martin M gives me the ick…..soo smarmy!
If he was chocolate he’d eat himself!
I find it baffling how some women find that kind of arrogance attractive tbh.

Me too!

Rummikub · 19/09/2023 01:41

Martin M is so unattractive and sleazy. I have no idea why he thinks he’s all that!

i hope Monique and Tollulah both bun him off.

Has Sharon got cold feet?

The kids are the best thing about the show. Love seeing their reactions. Poor Paul’s daughter!

I agree with you about Roger.

Somehow I don't think Monique will have any problem getting intimate with Martin M though ugh.

In relation to Sharon, she's clearly been so hurt, that she's finding it difficult to open up. I feel if they actually did proper work shops, it may help her.And Elliot. I think Sharon was completely right not to want to take part in the ridiculous intimacy work shop.

FannyBawz · 19/09/2023 08:34

I think it’s great that Sharon was assertive enough to refuse that really horrible intimacy session.

Monique’s face when slimy Martin was with the other lady was hilarious, so jealous!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/09/2023 09:49

They should have done a much tamer intimacy session, with group chat, then offered couples the chance to have a 1.2.1 session with the Coordinator.

Being sat watching someone lick a chocolate finger and rub it on someone's neck would have made me sick a bit in my mouth tbh and have the opposite effect

The veneer of money. It makes many men think they are gods gift.

It’s obviously not just those men who think it - he’s got two women lapping it up and playing pick me.

Jennalong · 19/09/2023 12:21

I think I'd be telling Martin M I was the prize and not the reserve. Monique says she is assertive but she's not showing that.

No way would I hang around !

FishPie2 · 19/09/2023 12:40

Tollulah and Paul along with their daughters have just been on This Morning and seem very relaxed with each other. No spoilers but asked if there was any romance between any of the kids and they all laughed quite loud but said nothing. Quite a nice interview.

Totally

And clear he will hurt them too. It's a cycle the women seem unable to break.

Interesting to observe, though

Completely agree with this - I would have felt a bit violated if I'd felt pressured into doing that

Monique said she wasn't a jealous person and her daughter laughed. Monique looked like she wanted to stab someone in the eye at the intimacy session. You're right about Sharon, it takes real strength of character not going with what a group is accepting.

ThePoshUns · 19/09/2023 13:57

Yes I was cheering for Sharon, no way would I have taken part in that session.

JudyGemstone · 19/09/2023 14:04

I’m not a fan of Monique from what we’ve seen, she seems to have no sense of humour. She is gorgeous though, they all are really.

swimlyn · 19/09/2023 15:40

Oh yes. There’s nowt intimate about performing in front of the whole group. The Intimacy Guru didn’t seem very capable.

Anybody going back to Martin’s Ibizan villa will defo get a session or two with him, and then it’ll be back to Blighty for a return to reality.

I still have no idea where the whole concept is going. Geographical distance is going to be a big problem for some.

martinisforeveryone · 19/09/2023 16:10

I was also uncomfortable, not sure if for me or for them. Them probably. Well said Sharon. It doesn't mean you can't be 'intimate' with someone if you don't see it as a group activity to be aired on national TV.

As for Martin M, they only perceive he's well to do and has a certain lifestyle, because he's given that impression. For all anyone knows the reality could be quite different. He's acting like someone who can't decide to have steak or lobster off a restaurant menu 'come back in 10 minutes when I've chosen' Very unattractive to me.

DevonSeaSwimmer · 19/09/2023 17:01

Reality TV, including anything like Love Island, has never been my thing to watch or contemplate taking part. My Mum, Your Dad has surprised me. Most of the parents and all of the kids have reeled me in and I've watched all the episodes so far. The kids are all very caring towards their parents and each other, likeable and impressive.

My pairings would be Paul and Natalie, Elliott and Sharon, Roger and Janey, Clayton and Catherine/Monique, Martin H and Catherine/Monique, Martin M and Tolullah.

I wonder if Paul will be put off by Natalie's past? I agree with Sharon's daughter that she needs to take a risk on Elliott and give a little more. I think it would be a shame for those two to lose each other. A year on from a major bereavement is still very soon and a very difficult time, but I think Roger and Janey (with her own issues around her adoption) seem similar and well-suited. They're both kind and good fun. I think they need each other. I'd like to see Clayton and Catherine go on a date, (both nice, fun, warm people), also Martin H and Catherine, and Clayton and Monique. Monique is a difficult one. I liked her before Martin M came on the scene and she allowed his confidence, home in Ibiza and property business to turn her head away from the very lovely Martin H. Whether she has burnt her bridges with Martin H is hard to tell, but he's such a nice guy he might give her another chance. Like her daughter, I think she's making a mistake and repeating old bad habits. Catherine is consistently a very nice person and she and Martin H might be a fit. I think Tolullah is the only one who could put Martin M in his place and allow him to show his better side, as his son says he definitely has one. I think they're all decent people. You only have to look at their kids and also see them through the eyes of their kids to tell that.

Perhaps I'm a little over-invested...

anybloodyname · 19/09/2023 17:10

@DevonSeaSwimmer who is Catherine ? I've been racking my brain , cannot remember who this is 😩😩😩

martinisforeveryone · 19/09/2023 17:11
