The 'civilian' version was my favourite telly show ever, especially the early series before the invasion of the wannabes. Not so keen on the celeb versions; those people are always 'on'. Loved the first season when it was all raw. Sada doing her goddess chant every bedtime. The chickens. Nichola naked body painting the wall. Nasty Nick's downfall.

My favourite contestant was Science in BB6, and he was in my favourite task - the box task. 'Shut up' 'No you shut up'.

Top evictions:
Maxwell being evicted when he totally thought it would be Science.
Big-head Sezer visibly shocked that he was evicted.
Grace getting the boot and chucking water over Susie she was so mad.
Kathreya [Happy House!] getting chucked out in her dressing gown to no crowd.

I think Alison Hammond is the most successful of all the contestants across all the series. What season was she?

Same season as jade goody and Kate lawler - third or fourth maybe? She was voted out very early, she's done well to make a career from it.

SullysTail · 08/09/2023 23:11

Oh and it was in Bow, you could see it from the tube.

Alex behind the door was absolute TV gold.

Jesus why do I even have this memory??

And

'I'm not feeling well Big Brother...I've got...

...the sniffles'

Nikki.

I learned never to judge a person before getting to know them.

We (mid 30's) were on a cruise with our 3 kids (ages 6-10) and first night at dinner we were shown to a table for 10. We were seated with 2 other couples, both in their 70's, and a grandchild (aged 15) of one of the couples. I was all ready for asking the maitre d' for a table that wasn't shared. I couldn't possibly see how we could eat with complete strangers.

How wrong I was. Someone mentioned Nikki and Big Brother - this prompted my 6 year old to do her fabulous 'who is she?', impression and several hysterical fits of laughter later - we were all firm friends. Moving table never crossed my mind again.

Social media wasn't what it is today so news of the latest goings on in the house came via a daily phone call from one of the ladies' daughters. All discussed and dissected each night at dinner.

A blonde woman saying ‘i love you Paul Clark (was it Paul Clark?) pops into my head in a regular basis. It’s at the point where I don’t know if Paul Clark existed or if I’ve made it up, and I really don’t know who the blonde woman is.

I went to uni with the brother of a contestant in an early series, can’t remember her name now but she was one of the ‘normal’ ones who went in, wasn’t crazy and came out after a few weeks. It did not make the brother as cool as he thought it did.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/09/2023 23:17

Watching the first episode of one of the early series and one of the contestants was someone I was at school with. Immediately rang my sister and she answered the phone with 'OMG' instead of 'hello' because she knew it would be me phoning about BB.

Series 3, along with Kate Lawler, Jade Goody, Adele Roberts, Alex, Posh Tim, Johnny the fireman, etc. the very best series is my humble opinion.

SayingwhatIreallythink · 08/09/2023 23:18

Wasn’t DJ Adele Robert’s Alex’s best mate in the house?

Another one:

Anna the nun from series one playing her guitar and singing sadly to herself about her girlfriend:

"And I know that I will see your face again
And you'll be waiting there for me
And when I put my arms around you you will know,
That I hate being on tv"

I swear I must have been about 14 when I watched that but it was so real, so lovely that it's always stuck with me. The more series that went on the less I remember because it became more contrived. But some moments from the early series with memorable, genuine characters I remember with astonishing clarity.

TenOhSeven · 08/09/2023 23:19

This is so random, but there was a Canadian guy called Richard (?) on one series and he was into ice hockey and had this saying, keep your stick on the ice. Meaning, basically, stay calm. It's stuck with me and I was just thinking about that saying earlier today!

tianabiscuit · 08/09/2023 23:19

Jade and PJ under the covers "PJ got a BJ" screamed the tabloids.

Chocolatesandroses · 08/09/2023 23:19

Nikki graham who is she who is she who does she think she is lol still makes me laugh when I think about it . I liked the one jade goody was in that had a lot of drama and with josie and John James

That was Helen 'is there chicken in chic peas' Adams , she was an absolute star .

80sMum · 08/09/2023 23:22

I watched the first series, the one with "Nasty Nick", avidly but lost interest after that. The thing that made it interesting was that it was a new concept and the participants were just ordinary people who didn't know how popular the show was becoming and how many people were watching them.

Once the cat was out of the bag, all the participants in the subsequent series after the first one were just people who wanted to be famous, which made the programme very boring, for me. It was just a group of people showing off.

Kernackered · 08/09/2023 23:22

The skateboarding lesbian ex nun was funny. She used to entertain herself foing funny little things. I wonder what she's up to now

Gahhhhereheisagain · 08/09/2023 23:23

She’s gone on to good things. She has her own TV production company which is very successful.

Hope the new series is good!

"Whenever I get a bit down, I just think about that woman who had her face ripped off by a chimpanzee . . ."

TheChosenTwo · 08/09/2023 23:31

I remember the first 3, don’t think I watched after that. Was it on from around 2000? My mum always talks about me and some friends coming home late and night and putting on the live stream of the nighttime and I was 15/16 at the time so I figure that’s about right.
I remember nasty nick, you live by the sword, you die by the sword 😂
